I try to be on the newsiest cutting edge.
I had to trim out the RED ALERT and BREAKING NEWS banners, though, so I apologize for that.

Amazing.
One highlight will be seeing the Democrats wheel in unison to give credit to the President for the supposed economic recovery we are having.
As opposed to back when things were bad, and the economy was the GOP Congress's fault.
Oh, it gets better:
Remind me: what is Spanish for "fuck you", again?
If the economy wasn't Obama's doing after he'd been in office for 7 months, why would it be his doing after he'd been in office for 7 years?
hedgie are you saying that Curbelo objects to things that are in the speech he's reading? Or is this just Mother Jones taking an opportunity to be snarky and attack the GOP?
Such a disgusting publication. You lower yourself by reading it.
Because economists say it's better now, so he did it obviously.
In year 5 it was all the fault of Republicans screwing things up. I guess they stopped doing that?
I don't know, it's all so confusing.
probably watch some episodes of friends instead
I'll probably watch, but I'll be flipping to the Wings game during applause.
well you and I know that economics doesn't work that way
but as far as politics go, the Democrats have been utterly stupid in not taking credit for the economic recovery
distancing themselves from Obama and doing their best to not talk about anything in the last election was a disastrous move
Let me highlight the point you missed:
Having the Spanish language response be nothing more than the recital of Ernst's response is a massive slap in the face to the Latino community.
Well I don't know, where would you draw the dividing line?
The reason Democrats haven't embraced the economic recovery is that a rather massive number of voters haven't shared the gains of said recovery. Carville's an ass, but I think he's 100 percent correct that any attempt by the Democratic Party to run on the strength of this economy is going to end up with the Republicans building a campaign on how the party is nothing but "out of touch DC liberals."
I think Obama is smart to try to pivot on the issue of how the gains in the economy have not been shared with his tax proposal. But that's a tricky message to play when trying to court disaffected, struggling voters without alienating the big money interests who pretty much bankroll both parties these days.

"Hey, we've helped the economy get back up, but it isn't quite there yet, and we still have more to do for a lot of people."
There. You just took credit and said that we need to do more.

I disagree, because the people who have been disenfranchised by the economy didn't vote anyway or were already republican voters
you lose nothing
So I find fault with the entire idea of "rather massive number of voters haven't shared in the gains of said recovery". Unemployed people don't really vote unless they're politically engaged individuals
because the Latino (Hispanic? Chicano? careful now...) community can't hear a speech in Spanish unless it's written by a person with the right opinions (according to you) about issues important to them even when they aren't part of the speech being read.
Why is it a slap in the face to the community instead of a sick bomb dropped on Ernst by the GOP establishment? She hates Spanish language stuff and we're having a colleague read her speech in Spanish!
Why? Because "GOP hates Latinos" is an important political angle to press, and Mother Jones actively hates and attacks Republicans whether or not there's a good reason to.
Naah, this is just some partisan screeching you dropped in the thread, written by a publication designed to screech about partisan things and dedicated to not much else.
Please.
Between the Legislative and Executive branches, like I usually do.
It's the problem the GOP makes continually with the voters they're losing. Blacks/Hispanics/women/young people don't actually care about policy, they just think the Democrats are more (insert arbitrary quality here). (And yes, you can flip this and talk about What's the Matter with Kansas if you want)
He's not even giving his own speech, he's being given the speech as translated by someone who hates immigrants, and being forced to read it.

Ernst is a xenophobic nativist who ran on policies attacking the Latino community. Having a Latino GOP Representative (who, by the way, does not actually agree with her stances regarding immigration and has broken ranks with the party on this issue) read her response verbatim is basically saying "we think that you are all idiots who only care that we have someone who can speak your language."
I'm pretty sure that's an insult - in any language.

I can still fetch some smelling salts and a new monocle if anyone in the thread dropped theirs while huffing.
It's not quite the same thing.
By any standard you wish to put out there, Joni Ernst is a horrible fucking person.
do you have a link for this @enlightenedbum ? I have some people I'd like to forward it to
