If I gift this to someone in my friends list, do they get my e-mail address when they receive the gift? I've tried "gifting" to an e-mail address (i.e. non Steam member, non friend) and in the e-mail that's sent it gives away the e-mail I used to register Steam with (not even my "response e-mail", which I can change, the actual e-mail which I originally registered with).
Basically I want to just be able to give this away without giving out my e-mail as well.

Edit: It won't let me resend it until I wait 24 hours. If you don't have it by then we can try again with another e-mail addy, or I can just resend it.
Okay, Username: JamWarrior and would really love some Half Life 2 action. Why not Episode One as well but don't want to appear greedy! With free stuff I'm more than happy with whatever I get. Vast advance thanks to anyone who gifts me.

Do you need our Steam user names for this? I ask because I'd like to grab Episode 1 for my brother, and I'm not 100% certain of his username (he's occasionally unlucky and someone beats him to his handle of choice, is it case-sensitive, etc...).

Yeah, they get your email address. I've gifted my copy of HL2 to a friend and they received the email address I used to register for Steam. I'm not sure if you can change your activation email address, though.

That could be tricky, because the recipient needs to have a Steam account of their own, and the act of gifting it may link the game forevermore to the recipient's email.
