"Red eyes, sir?", Chimpy inquired with a raised eyebrow.
"There are only so. Many. Times in a. Life", TeeMan grunted with a strained voice, sweating with the effort of cramming two orbs into shdwcasters skull. Following an audible *POP*, he wiped his brow and continued, "that you can either choose to rehabilitate a patient at a diminished quality of life or turn them into a bitchin' cyborg. shdwcaster doesn't strike me as the enfeebled type and trust me, the red eyes are important".
Tweaking his left ear, the red eyes came to life with a low hum.
After all the crap I've seen these smilies pull, I don't trust them to not have some thing up their sleeve with these clones they are selling. I'd love to see @MuddBudd again, but really don't want to have triangle head flip a switch and have Mudd bash my brains in.

@Teeman had devised a reconstructive surgery and rapid recovery regiment for @shdwcaster. He'd already pulled him back from the brink once with that drone venom. This should be a piece of cake.
The cybernetic eyes were probably a bit unsubtle. The red control circuits for the eyes ran under the skin, but the shine of the red pulsing light sometimes showed through. He could make some adjustments later.
Still, once again his incapacitated patient was back on his feet and ready for duty. He could wear sunglasses or something. Shdwcaster healed again. Yeah baby!
I opened my eyes to something other than a big bright blur for the first time in about a week. Not to an unfamiliar ceiling, but to the sickbay ceiling that I'd seen more than enough of all ready. That said, I was seeing it again. @an_alt squeezed my hand. I looked over at her. "You're looking well. What do you think?"
She did a little bit of a double-take. "That's... maybe a little unsettling. Not bad, just... yeah, it's going to take some getting used to."
I arched an eyebrow and looked over at @TeeMan "What's she talking about, exactly?"
"Er, well, it's like this... you know what, maybe just look in a mirror. Here."
An_Alt had a point. The pulsing red lights coming out of my eyes could probably be considered a teeny bit disconcerting to some people. Oh well. I could see again, and judging by how well I was reading signs 30 feet away, the Mark 02 Eyeballs had some improvements over the Mark 01s.
I grinned. "Well, I should be fine, provided I stay away from bulls. Thanks doc. Nice to be back in business again."

Uhh @Firebird? Did we go to a paper dimension while I was asleep? Because somebody put a sign on my door saying they wanted to R.I.P. Bedlam! That seems very rude!
Also have we been to any thief dimensions? Because all my things are gone.

I know @shdwcaster is all better now, but could I have used Ready to Rumble while incapacitated? Or should I have had temporary access to whatever @Sorce chose (assuming he flagged himself as a potential officer)?
I know @shdwcaster is all better now, but could I have used Ready to Rumble while incapacitated? Or should I have had temporary access to whatever @Sorce chose (assuming he flagged himself as a potential officer)?
I asked about this once via PM and got this answer:
Pixelated Pixie March 20
Is an incapacitated officer's ability unusable? I assume so but want to be clear.
akajaybay March 20
It'll at least be -4 modifier to the success roll. If its not an ability that requires a roll I guess I'd say injured folks can do it fine but incap can't. Injured officers get -2 on ability rolls.
There should have been a cooldown on officer abilities of at least one turn so that more of them would get used...
Good idea. Too late to change it now though.
A bunch of that stuff and the traits are all over the place. But that was semi-intentional. Figured I'd just make a bunch of options and just roll with it however it came out.
Sorce being the backup is just for purposes of ship to ship combat rolls.
Since Muddbudd is dead Polaritie is down a Martial officer. He can promote from within if there's someone with the right spec. (there's 1) So, they'll be the new Martial officer come next round.
I can't bring myself to awesome that. Maybe I'll come back after and do it after all my crew make it through the week unscathed. I mean, I'm glad that @TeeMan is such a good doctor, but it'd be nice to never use that particular officer ability again.
Ahahaha! I just realized exactly why akajaybay gave us all the option of regaining all hull and reviving dead crew members: BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD EMOTICON. Kid gloves are most likely coming off on the failure rolls now. I foresee multiple points of damage to ships per and people being incapacitated or outright killed in short order.
No update tonight I'm afraid. Should be a doozy of a week though. Failures are getting rougher.
This is why I'm circling back to the starting area for the low level missions.
Not a bad idea, but I'll just say don't necessarily expect proximity to the center position to directly equate to difficulty. The properties of each square were randomly generated past the initial cluster regardless of distance. And the latter third of the game bump in difficulty is somewhat layered on top of those original values regardless.
But still finding easier smaller potential steam pockets in some ways may work out better than going for the highest value spots. Though most folks have no idea which is which so....anyway.
I will get a mission done tonight one way or another.
Can't decide which to start off with...
Geth roll 1d4
The transporter pad sparked, fizzled, and a sliding whooping noise faded into silence. @Orivon@Talus9952 and @LoveIsUnity remained standing there. It had felt like the the transporter's worked...but they remained where they were, the transporter room of the Rougelike. Talus stepped down from the platform to check the console. "The whole thing's gone offline. Looks like we're not going anywhere for a while. I'm going to have to open it up and find the fault. Captain Pixie, we've got a problem. The transporter is shorted out. We may need to use the Doughnut Hole instead."
"What did you call me!?" Captain Pixie responded over the communicator. "Interrogator Iolo, escort them to the bridge. I'll deal with them myself."
LoveIsUnity barely recognized Iolo as he entered the transporter room. He had a grizzled unkempt beard and looked as if he hadn't slept for a month. "You heard the Captain, get a move on. You've got a mission to report on" he said. Orvion had a blinding headache, something felt off about everything here.
"We haven't even gone anywhere yet" Talus said.
Iolo was wearing a strange uniform, the cut was the same, but instead bright pink, was a dark crimson red.
"Don't bother making your excuses to me. You're already in a heap of trouble for being gone so long. And you used the P word." This worn down Iolo laughed with an evil grin. "You'll be lucky if Captain Luchaire doesn't do to you what she did that coward F3rret." He drew his weapon on them. "Now move, or I will take great pleasure in hurting you myself. What are you three even wearing? You better not have come back empty handed."
The Rougelike mission team exchange glances and then quietly headed through the ship for the bridge, with Iolo trailing behind them. The ship was a nightmare version of itself. All dark colors and grim looking crew.
The bridge itself was outfitted for war. The Captain had a deep sneer on her face, as they arrived.
"Well? What took you so long? Are they all dead or what? Source is paying us good money to harvest this Steam. If we don't have it, he'll want your hides in return. Why are you out of uniform?"
The trio was at a loss for words. Captain Pixie's evil twin stepped up to Talus with fury in her eyes, then her head jerked back and she headbutted him directly in the nose.
Talus reeled and tried to maintain his footing while the bridge crew laughed.
"If one of you doesn't start talking soon, I will put your heads next to F3rrets." Captain Pixie, or Luchaire rather, drew a large jagged knife from her belt. The rest of the bridge crew looked on expectantly.

Captain Luchaire began to move closer and closer, waving the large knife back and forth in front of them. Clearly something had gone wrong with the transporters and they were in some kind of horrible alternate version of reality. LoveIsUnity struggled to come up with a plausible explanation buy them some time to gather their thoughts, but she couldn't concentrate on anything other than the blade. Finally as the twisted version of their Captain shifted her gaze to Orivon he blurted out "We're not from here, something went wrong with the transporters. We're not supposed to be here." The bridge crew laughed at this bizarre excuse for failing a mission. "You do seem different..." The Captain was thinking. "Fine, Iolo, you've been begging for a chance to use your toolbox on someone. Take one of these three and find out the truth."
Iolo grinned from ear to ear and scratched his scrabbly beard with one hand while he pointed at the trio with his other "Eenie, Meenie, Miney....Moe!"
@Orivon was thrown into tiny dirty cell by Emberquick. He seemed to be enjoying Orivon's predicament. Said he deserved it for all things he'd done. Orivon tried to explain that wasn't him, but a different version of him, but he was ignored. It felt like a long time passed before someone came to get him. He, Talus, and LoveIsUnity were reunited on the bridge. Iolo had taken the opportunity to test out his latest hug machine. Poor Unity was a wreck, the machine squeezed with a terrible constant pressure, she was barely able to stand as they were dragged back up to the bridge before the Captain.
"Iolo tells me you believe this alternate dimension nonsense. Source is coming for his Steam, and I'm empty handed. Again! But he should find you three interesting enough to keep off our backs."
The golden triangle emoticon appeared identical to their own counterpart, in appearance and demeanor. "Ah ha! You've got some inter-dimensional stowaways to trade me hmm? Fine. But next time I expect some Steam."
Source snapped his fingers and the ship disappeared. Talus, Orivon, Unity and Source were floating in a blank empty black space, but able to see each other, and still feel a sense of momentum that was growing faster and faster.
With another finger snap, they were in a white walled room with now windows, doors, or other furniture. "So...where did you three come from?"
Source stared hard at them for a moment...."Steam Battle hmm? Not a bad idea actually. I may have to try that. Well...maybe I can trade you back over. If I get around to it."
Then he was gone and the three of them were left sitting alone in the empty blank room.
LoveisUnity winced as she sat down against one of the walls.
"So now what?" Talus asked.
Orivon was concentrating. He thought he could feel the invisible switches that controlled this place...
He felt it when Source took them off the Rougelike, and then again when they landed here. He reached out in his mind, and pushed. LoveIsUnity incapacitated

As Orivon pushed forward with his mind, the room holding them disappeared and they tumbled into the unending darkness that had surrounded them before. Talus and Love were gasped, not knowing why they now seemed to be falling into nothingness. He pulled the other two closer, and slower their descent. "I...I think I can control where we go." Orivon said. He wasn't sure how, but he was starting to understand how this worked. The space they were in may have appeared vast, but they were actually inside a dense cluster of pockets. He could move the three of them between the pockets. But, whether he was leading them to safety or further danger was hard to say.
He peeled away the blackness and they moved into the central hub of these clusters. It looked like a large museum hall here. Various displays showed the large skeletal remains of different animals. The one hanging above them looked like the skeleton of a dragon. They weren't alone either. On the opposite end of the hall, there was a pair of pixelated shapes. One was an orange sphere with feminine features, the other, a black cube with angry red eyes.
They turned to view the three new arrivals but carried on talking to each other, and observing the display they stood in front of.
"Where are we?" LoveIsUnity asked.
"I don't know yet. But this area leads to a bunch more. Everything feels malleable in here, like if I focus hard enough, it'll change."
"Can you focus us a way home?" Talus chimed in.
"Actually...I think so...yeah"

They are giving off the oddest energy readings.
I have begun to construct a capture and containment device, to allow me to harness the energy of the muffins.
