In case you haven't noticed it before, Lalli actually has a little bit of an ego, just like his dear buddy and soulmate Emil. Mikkel has a pretty well fed ego too. And let's not even speak of Sigrun! They all sure think highly of themselves. Or... do they? Dun dun!
yeah stick it to those brits with their different words for things, that'll teach them
don't worry, I'm sure they could care less
I'm really just curious as to why they choose that one thing to keep the old term for, I don't really care what they call it.
I'm a little curious why we ended up with different names for them, probably something to do with trademarks or patents or industry marketing campaigns or something like with aluminum and aluminium
Early flashlights ran on zinc-carbon batteries, which could not provide a steady electric current and required periodic "rest" to continue functioning. Because these early flashlights also used energy-inefficient carbon-filament bulbs, "resting" occurred at short intervals. Consequently, they could be used only in brief flashes, hence the common North American name "flashlight".
We've overcome this issue, yet they are still called 'flashlights'.

Also, I'd bet a small amount of money the Court's concern about academic ethics/performance is inversely proportional to how useful the student in question is to them. An Annie who goes along with the court's direction could probably cheat on everything since the Court gets use out of her, but since she doesn't play ball, it becomes a stick to beat her with. My main evidence for this is Zimmy, who (I think) almost never goes to class but lets the Court carry out experiments from time to time.
Annie was playing ball until the headmaster screwed her over.
In front of everyone.
Only reason she could even take up Coyote's offer was because that jackass pulled the rug out from under her.
It's less not wanting to play ball with the Court, and more not wanting the ball to be deliberately slammed into her face.
I don't know that she really was, though - even before that happened, she was running off to the forest for a summer without permission, ignoring the detention the Court gave her for it, etc.
Considering what she'd learned, I can't really blame her for wanting to be away from the court for a while.
Or for going through a rebellious phase as a result.
Sure, I'm just saying that from the Court's point of view she was never really playing along to begin with.
They never really made any attempt to curb her behavior, as far as I can tell.
Has anyone other than Renard or her Dad ever given her shit for copying Kat's homework?
It seems less like they were concerned about her behavior at school, and more like they were just letting her pile up evidence that they could throw in her face.
Which, as the last page suggests, is exactly what they were fucking doing.
When I saw the superhero rankings in OPM, I perceived it as a super heavy-handed parody of manga creators' tendency to categorize and put everything into numbers.
And now I'm reading Tower of God where the very same ranking is in use (dead serious) and I'm just LMAO.

Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen

What tendency? The only other ones I can think of off the bat are DBZ power levels and One Piece bounties.

It' a shonen trope usually they'll work in levels or a ranking system but since fantasy isn't a popular genre it's kind of become a one off joke. Oda doesn't even use bounties like power levels Luffy broke in then out of an inescapable prison and his only went up 50,000.

plus it's girl genius, so they could quite feasibly be in paris for the next five years of comics
and that's not even considering possible time-fuckery

You do realize that flashlight came before fleshlight. (pun not intended).
As someone who works in an office, I'm surprised it took him this long.
lol if you think mankind invented electricity before we invented artificial vaginas
