Unscientific and informal online polls are probably better for Trump's campaign because they survey hundreds of thousands of sockpuppet accounts.

I watched the entire debate on my phone lying in bed last night, so I could concentrate on it without checking other media sources constantly. I really missed some good stuff.

Not surprising, I guess, but my libertarian friend wishes Gary Johnson was there so that a real debate and being held accountable could happen...

Which, of course, would require Johnson to have knowledge about anything important and not be the ignorant goose he is.

I have no idea what Trump thinks he could gain by bringing up Clinton's infidelity.

What possible line of attack is there?

But yeah that's why his campaign staff made sure he didn't bring that up. And he had to brag about managing that low bar, cancelling it out

He sees it as a weakness, but this is Trump and he hasn't realized tactics like this don't work as well in the general. Conway must be rolling he eyes over that.

Since a lot of the criticism of this debate is that Trump seemed to be on the defensive, next debate he'll probably go full offense. I doubt Trump likes people implying he's weak. Its going to be even more of a shitshow.

Conway, as a woman, appreciated that Trump showed restraint by not talking about Bill Clinton's affairs because Hillary's husband and daughter were in the audience.

I am supposed to give him props for not attacking Hillary based on her husband's actions only because her husband and daughter were there.

I'm almost looking forward to the next debate now. He still won't have the capacity to prepare, he won't have an autocue and it's already been proven that he's incapable of staying on any sort of coherent point without one. Unless someone manages to sneak him an earpiece or something he's doomed.

Sorry I couldn't jump back into Discord, folks. Turtis the Turtle didn't want to fall asleep. So we had to watch the debate on "delay," and I didn't want to get in the middle of discussions without being caught up.

I have multiple friends who now want Johnson to be there. They are the same friends who are amazed that policy wasn't actually debated.

These same friends have witnessed the last 4 election cycles, yet are still amazed that debates don't actually discuss policy. :rotate:

@PantsB was it you or someone else who wrote that long policy post about Johnson's platform? I'd really like to read it again, but it's at least one -- if not two -- threads back and the search function is not the greatest.

Just to get this clear in my head since there's been so much ridiculousness to keep track of in this election, was the Alicia Machado story a card that Clinton only revealed last night?

That's the impression I got, especially given how caught off-guard Trump was by it.

    I don't believe so

With Johnson I usually just point out he wants to eliminate the minimum wage, all corporate taxes, federally guaranteed student loans, and not only Obamacare but privatize Social Security and cut Medicare by 43%. He's economically very right wing.

For conservatives who would never support Trump, he wants to cut military spending 45%, is pro-choice, is pro-amnesty and isn't a Christian.

For moderates, I usually go minimum wage, corporate taxes, privatize Social Security, and thinks Ukraine belongs to Russia as much as Puerto Rico belongs to the US.

Unsurprisingly, most of the time these issues have been a surprise.

Directly, yes. Other orgs has ran the story about her getting citizenship to vote against Trump before.

Whether Clinton picked that up or 4d-chessed pushing that story on the sly months ago is another question.

    So on CNN's Fact checker:
Clinton lit into Trump on his tax returns and quickly landed on an argument that he has not paid federal taxes.
"All of you watching tonight, to know that he's paid nothing in federal taxes, because the only years that anybody's ever seen were a couple of years when he had to turn them over to state authorities when he was trying to get a casino license and they showed he didn't pay any federal income tax," Clinton said.
Trump jumped in and said, "That mean's I'm smart."
But Clinton continued, saying it means that Trump paid "zero for troops, zero for vets, zero for schools or health."
CNN's Phil Mattingly obtained the available tax returns, available from the New Jersey state gaming commission, and they showed that Trump paid no federal taxes for the five years that were available: 1978, 1979, 1984, 1991 and 1993.
But it's impossible to say whether he hasn't paid any federal income taxes since then without seeing more of his tax returns.
Based on the available evidence, Clinton is correct about how little he has paid in taxes.
    Verdict: True.

    Meanwhile at Politifact:
Clinton: "He's paid nothing in federal taxes, because the only years that anybody's ever seen were a couple of years when he had to turn them over to state authorities when he was trying to get a casino license, and they showed he didn't pay any federal income tax."

This is Mostly False. The records cover five years of returns. They show Trump didn't pay income taxes in two years — 1978 and 1979. But he did pay taxes in 1975, 1976 and 1977.

    Also at Politifact:
"The two candidates traded attacks that were largely accurate, but they had some trouble with facts when it came to their own records."

What were they watching that I wasn't??

What really caught me off guard was the "I'll get to Pennsylvania avenue one way or another" line.

Like, that's really all he cares about. Is the appearance. Not the job. (we knew that already) but i was surprised he said it.

Wait, seriously? No love for Clinton? Not when she brought up inherent bias? Not when she called Trump out on his racism? Nothing in that debate made you think she's a good candidate?

I'm not attacking here, I'm genuinely curious. What would she have had to have done to convince you she's good?
