Are the league rebuy rules from Death Zone that unbalanced? They seem pretty OK on paper…
The league rebuy rules seem fine to me. It's just that some folks like me got in 8 games last season while other folks got in like 2. Due to the game just coming out, a short season, and holidays.

Ah, yeah, I see how that'd throw things off.
Do you guys use the new rules straight up? Every new league I've heard of houserule things at least a little, like dropping special play cards…

We dropped the mandatory special play cards but kept them as inducements. We instituted timed turns, but set the limit to 5 minutes with one time out per half (there will be several players first time ever playing blood bowl so the time out is so they can look up rules stuff without freaking out). I believe we included piling on from the optional rules.
I don't think we changed anything else.

Sounds good; you are still the first I've heard that uses special plays like that though, most seem to either embrace them wholeheartedly or drop them like hot rocks.

I believe that is how they were in previous editions of the game, only availabe as inducements, but I could be misinformed.
Got the Goblins done for the starting line up for the upcoming season, I just need to get two Trolls built and I'll have everything I need out of the gate. I'll have to build up the other specialists but, I'm not starting with them. I'll probably build myself a coach model first so I can argue calls until I get thrown out of the game:
Edit: Geeze Goblins are a complex team, I've got like 3 pages worth of cheat sheet stuff (one whole page for the throw team-mate procedure) to make sure I don't slow down the game checking rules all the time.
Phew, burning the midnight oil a bit but I've got my team all ready for the start of the new season tomorrow now.
Even got my coach done! Now a one eyed, one armed goblin, he was once a promising (by goblin standards) Bloodbowl player, until a desperate play to win a tournament involving a hungry troll went horribly, horribly wrong:
Just gotta finish typing up my rules cheat sheet, get my playbook down (am I the only one who brings an actual clipboard of plays with him to Bloodbowl?) and get a name for the team and all my players (this is always tough for me.)
They are almost stock from the plastic warhammer river troll set, on 32mm round bases that they barely fit on, and then shoulder pads from a 40k ork boys kit. The river troll set is pretty nice, lota of head options. Kit comes with enough to make 3 which is perfect as you can get 2 + the star player Rippa (once he gets rules for this edition of blood bowl.)

So it turns out we had 18! people interested in our league. We had to split it into two divisions, one with 10 and one with 8. A good amount of Orcs, Skaven, and Humans, but we've also got three unusual teams - Ogre, Underworld, and Vampire - and a mix of elves, plus two Dwarfs, an Amazon, and a Lizardman team.
My first match ended up against the Amazon team, and I won 3-1. Hard as hell to get them down, and my armor breaks just weren't there when I did, but I still was able to skill up a Lineelf and my Witch Elf.
Looking up my city confirmed my experience that this city sucks for wargaming and hobby stores in general. Besides the GW store there is like a single hobby store in a city of 1 million people and that one isn't taking part in the league. ugh
In their first game as a named team, the Southtown Shredders were beaten by my brother's Orks in the final turn by a single touchdown, the only one of the game.
It was a hell of a match, with multiple casualties on both sides, tense as hell.
This game is GREAT!
So this is probably coming out of left field, as I rarely post things I make personally, and I'm fairly certain I've never posted in this thread before, but I started getting into Blood Bowl last year and in a burst of insanity, having never made a terrain piece before, decided to make my own full size, portable, playable Blood Bowl field. After working on it in bursts on and off over the course of last year, I finally finished! And I'm proud enough of it to post about it to a bunch of strangers. A few photos ahoy in the spoilers:

That is absolute gorgeous!
Like, this is legitimately inspiring work.

Thanks so much! I had no idea how to do any of this when I went in. I basically failed woodshop back in middle school, and that was the sum of my experience with woodworking and power tools. The thing that convinced me to go ahead and just do it was Bowie's death, of all things. One of his songs on his last album basically came across to me as a warning to creative people that they're never going to be able to get everything in their head out into the real world. Pretty heavy, but it got me to start figuring stuff out instead of lamenting that I didn't currently have the skills to do stuff like this.
The outer case for the final product still isn't what I'd call beautiful, but it serves its purpose really well and looks nice from a distance or in poor lighting conditions :P
I also discovered a few really helpful youtube channels along the way, particularly Kathy Millatt, who I went to a lot for tips on the water stuff. She had one technique for making pond scum which she warned was experimental and did not work at all for me; luckily the failed blobs of "pond scum" ended up looking just like big lilypads, so I went with it and you can't even notice they're mistakes under all the duckweed and other stuff.
I'm officially interested in making a pitch for myself, any good sources for terrain tutorials?
I linked to her above as well, but just for posterity's sake I will here too: Kathy Millatt is someone on youtube I went to a lot for water related terrain tutorials, but since I started working on my project she has started covering much more stuff, terrainwise. She's really dorky but that's kind of part of the charm? And her videos keep beginners in mind and are really helpful.
Another person on youtube I went to for help with some key things was The Terrain Tutor. He's more into the battlefield terrain thing instead of Kathy Millatt's dioramas and display pieces, so by comparison The Terrain Tutor focuses a lot more on modular stuff. He has something like an hour long video on flocking that I found especially helpful for my pitch, even if I skipped over much of it.
Finding female minis to add to my Human team is difficult if I don't want it to look like the cheerleaders are on the pitch
It might be easiest to try and some suitable lady heads and just do headswaps, as they're all in bulky, form-hiding armour anyway? A bit of green stuff work to taste?
If you want more feminine presenting bodies then I guess maybe look at some elf stuff and see if there's anything there that might take a human head, or just trim the ears down I guess, they're basically the same.
Playing Blood Bowl while the Super Bowl plays in the background. My Southtown Shredders just made their first official touchdown on turn 3, feelin pretty good right now. This is my first Blitzmania record game as well.
Got shafted 4-0 in my first game, but I'm playing chaos so I expect to lose the first few. Got another bliztamania game tonight against goblins, so hopefully I can fill up those SPP by smushing some gobbos.
Yeah his armor and pose look fine but the details on his one hand and his face are kind of... crude looking, almost. I almost wonder if they're rushing their sculptors to pump stuff out on a faster timetable to capitalize on how popular this new edition ended up being.

TBH I haven't liked either of the star players they've put out so far. Zug's pose is just goofy, and Varag doesn't seem to be distinct/special enough from a converted Black Orc.
I kinda like Varg, but he looks like he's from some lost version of the game between this one and the last set of models. Something about the way he looks seems like 2000ish?
Also second blitzmania game was a 1-1 draw. Which is fine. Because I got three skills up on my second game and I'm nearing a fourth. And the guys who did skill up are only an MVP away from a second skill.
I now have chaos warriors with block. I am happy now.
I actually like the new Morg for not being a huge departure from his previous appearance. His sculpt is still a little more rough than I'm used to seeing from Forge World. He's at least not as bad as Varag. Both are a weirldy far cry from Zug whose sculpt is way high fidelity compared to the other two.
I figured it was a good idea to start a second team in case someone wanted to try the game at my house. Started putting Orcs together and immediately ordered extra sprews. I'll finish assembly tomorrow and start getting some paint down. I'm calling the team "Da Golden Toof".

Was looking at buying the 3 star players. Looking at pricing with shipping with money conversion, this is more than 100$ for just 3 minis. Wow. I'll pass.
Picked up the Dwarves and Skaven this past week. As long as it remains affordable for me I kind of want to try making a decent 1000 TV roster for each of the teams that come out, to make pick up games really easy but also with a lot of variety. The Dwarfs are almost perfect just out of the box, and I'm thinking a little converting can shape up the Skaven box into a good starter team pretty nicely. The Orcs and Humans I'm a little more concerned with, as converting a regular Orc boy into a Black Orc seems a little lame considering they're supposed to be physically larger than normal, and I'd really like the humans to have an Ogre.

I thought I heard a rumour that we'd eventually see some booster packs (maybe resin?) which would contain any extra players you might need; for instance, Skaven would get a pack that would include the 2 extra gutter runners.*
We should be getting the Ogre soon, that model has already been shown. I have no idea why they haven't released extra positionals yet. I ended up ebaying 2 Orc sprues. It was cheaper than buying 2 Blitzers and 2 Black Orcs.
