Just watched the halo wars story trailer, this seemed like the best place for discussion.
Wait, an arbiter and flood on harvest? I've not read contact harvest, but that seems... odd.
I assume that the "infection" the Covenant speak of was us -- Harvest was the first encounter with us, and the Flood wasn't even a blip on their radar yet.
And an Arbiter being there makes sense; they're the tip of the Covenant spear during important missions, and I could see the Prophets discovering the humans would be something fitting of the label "a time of crisis."
But if the Flood are found on a human colony, buried in a Forerunner facility (instead of the massive rings specifically built to contain and study them), I will be pissed.
Again, maybe something in contact harvest makes sense of this, but they weren't aware of our presence on harvest, and arbiters, as far as we know, are only created in times of great crisis; random relic finding is not one of these. You're right about the infection, that makes sense, although i don't think infection has been used in any part of the series except to refer to the flood otherwise.
I understand the books aren't quite canon, and liberties have to be taken, but it irritates me that it looks like they're just chucking everything in there because they think it might be cool. Shitloads of spartans is just stupid any way you look at it.
I seem to remember that they didn't think we would be on Earth. aka, they already knew about Earth, they just didn't know it was our home planet, only that something Forerunner related was there.

Yeah, I think the same goes for harvest.
Spoilers, kinda, on Contact Harvest:
The Covenant stumble upon a busted agricultural shipping frigate, the UNSC Horn of Plenty, and follow the nav data contained within to Harvest. They didn't know that anything was there, other than fruit.
Gah had to get up at 5:30am for a meeting at work then leave at 9am and come back at 3. Got out at 9:15 but Metro North chose today to change train schedules. Had to wait until 10:20. Now it is awn. So glad I'm off tomorrow. Make room in da party!
Today was a fun day for some Halo, though I didn't get to play much (had to sleep before my graveyard shift).
Played 11 games, with 8 wins and 3 losses. +10 EXP too! Thanks Team Sniper, come again soon, we'll miss you! All games were social except for the Team Slayer game with Dixon and Skut, we were beasts.
Also downloaded Mega Man 9, though only got to briefly play it. Love the music.

Hey X, about when do you think we'll be getting our Secret Holiday-Themed Elites?
I really know nothing about the premise for Halo Wars, and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm reading Contact Harvest now, and when I finish with the books maybe I'll give it a look (the story that is). That being said, this is most definitely at least a rental, if not a buy. I've always loved RTS games, though I can never seem to get the hang of them.
I can't win a game on Civ III past the second lowest difficult level.
I still maintain that it looks good. But I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to RTS's. I'm a bit iffy on the console controls but I thought it was decent in C&C on the 360, and it looks considerably better in halo wars.
It might not be a day one for me (unless it's a dry game season), but I'm sure I'll pick it up; unless it is just completely slammed in reviews. But even if it is trash I for some reason don't see that happening. /sigh
Contact Harvest is turning out to be a really fun read, I hope the other books are just as good.
I've heard it's the best (I've actually got it being delivered by Amazon right now) apart from maybe Fall of Reach. After that Ghosts of Onyx is pretty enjoyable, first strike is alright. For the love of god though don't read Flood, it's a hate crime perpetrated against Halo.
There's like three paragraphs of interesting stuff in the Flood. The rest is "chief fucked up some shit, then some more shit, then some more"
I still don't think that arbiter makes much sense, as arby seemed to be whoa wtf about getting given the honour; that don't make much sense if there's a couple within decades of each other.
But seeing as there's a shitload of spartans I'm not sure it matters.
i think arbiter is more concerned because he knows it's a suicide mission (since it's basically the coevenant placing the blame on him for master cheif escaping and then destroying the first halo)
Possibly, but there was certainly a sense that it was an amazing honour; that they didn't know there was anything there makes it odd that one of the most honoured elites was there.
You guys going to get online anytime soon? I get off work in an hour (7:30 CST), though I have to get fitted for a tux SOMEWHERE and have class at 10am, though I don't know if I'm going to go.
