One guy actually said "The NDP shouldn't lead because Jack Layton has no experience as Prime Minister"
and whoo boy he got so many nods
I just don't like Layton, to be honest, but that's the dumbest statement I've ever heard.
Luckily our prof is from BC so he is sympathetic to me but still
alberta is so blue it hurts
My issue with the brand of conservatism that exists in Alberta is that I honestly question how many of the people voting Conservative every election actually have any idea what policies the Harper government supports. I vote Conservative federally (Liberal provincially, though) but that's because I actually know what I'm getting. I'd wager that about 80% of Albertans don't know what they're getting, and only vote Conservative because 'well they're Conservative'.
Albertans love being a blue province
It is completely unfounded and largely due to the fact that the only thing most of them know is "Alberta is rich because of oil and Conservatives like oil"

They vote Conservative here because they believe what they get on the provincial level will be what they get on the federal level.
I vote conservative because the rest of those asshole want to take away my firearms for being scary.

Yeah, and that's even more annoying. I don't care if everyone votes for the damned Communist party, so long as it's an informed vote.

pony how would you feel about a fat person whining because they are fat and they hate being fat, but won't go out and exercise or curb their eating habits?
you know why this is a stupid comparison
because you actually equate the parties available with exercise or actual positive habits
i personally don't, not really. i guess the green party is sorta okay and if i had gotten the chance to vote, they are who i would've voted for.
but there's plenty of people who look at the election and well
listen i will use your metaphor
they look at the menu and they don't see exercise and eating right as options
they see
cheeseburger
onion rings
poutine
chocolate milkshake
extralarge cola
now me, i looked at that menu and saw "extralarge diet cola" which i justified as not being so bad and so felt okay about ordering it
other people look at that and go "jesus those are all terrible choices perhaps instead i will not order anything off this menu"
yeah but not ordering anything you starve and die
you have to order something
if everyone for whatever reason didn't vote at all, they'd just appoint someone i think
also yes the name calling is not cool
i apologize for calling you silly
we are all valid
But seriously, out of all the parties the Conservatives don't want to ban the only sport I actually enjoy. Or at least have stated that is their policy regarding firearms.
The others either say nothing (scary) or want to ban them because they have magazines and don't require the working of a bolt to reload (much more scary)

i think that is a fair choice to make
Those are all delicious choices and I would have voted for all of them.
if i were wanting to lose weight and saw that menu i would go to another restaurant
seriously where are the lighter options, that is a horrible restaurant
mully on

except that will never happen
lots of people vote
people who have different opinions from the people who don't vote
and that's fine
a person who doesn't vote has just as much "say" in the government as a person who votes and the candidate they voted for loses.
yes, there are real differences between the two in terms of numbers and party support and in some cases even funding
but ultimately, from a democratic governance standpoint, if you voted and your candidate lost anyway you have had the exact same net effect on the government as someone who didn't vote.
a person who chooses not to vote has chosen to say "i lose and someone else wins"
yes, that might seem defeatist
but it isn't much different from voting NDP in the middle of alberta

No, see, they can just go to a different restaurant. Like the United Steaks of America.

i am surly and full of anger on this particular subject and quite prone to just making reactionary statements

oh don't mind him he is also surly
but we can make fun of him if you want
that helps everything ... actually i am trying to make him draw with me so nevermind
Our riding is hella close 15850-15549, 205/213 polls.
When I got to the booth, I honestly blanked.
As it turns out, I ended up voting for a 21 year old chick, who is, according to the candidate info at that link of yours, "Pursuing her GED and training to be a lawyer's assistant".
I think I may have literally thrown my vote away, guys.

Please tell me that someone, possibly you, called him on being goddamn retarded.

For the moment, anyway.

IN SOVIET RUSSIA
MENU ORDERS OFF OF YOU
i don't know what the other foods represented besides the cola being the green party

I was just about to post this
So impressed right now
Is that Strathcona?
Because, really, the only good thing there is the farmer's market.
It's ok. Linda Duncan was promptly lynched by angry rednecks from Spruce Grove so everything is Tory Blue again.
Yeah.
NDP: 18,434
CON: 18,034
210/223 polls reporting.
strathcona is our florida
to the point that i actually said something mean to one of my co-workers and everyone was all and didn't talk to me for the rest of the day
God I hope Jaffer doesn't win.
I hate him.
If it wasn't a Tuesday night, I might already be drinking somewhere in that riding.
The angry red necks are all in Devon. We used to beat the shit out of the Sprucers back in the day.
Where did you touch him, Pony. Show us on this here crash-test dummy.
"i would rather not talk about it"
"what? don't you vote? you know if you don't vote you..."
"Don't fucking talk to me."
cue everyone going because i am basically ned flanders to my co-workers
i don't even swear when i'm at work, not even in the break-room far from customers
i couldn't pull this off since i was totally getting off work well within polling time
also my office's main floor is in fact a polling station
so it would've been a pretty tough sell
i'm most pissed about not being able to vote
i actually was looking forward to voting for the first time ever and then was told nope
sorry
