Have you read Nine Stories by Salinger

    that's pretty neat

The Sun Also Rises is pretty accessible, that's Hemingway

Also Canticle for Liebowitz by Walter Miller inspired the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout, so that's neat!

Both, actually. It was the first on the list, and thus the first who's blurb I read. It sounded fairly interesting so I figured, "why not?".

I like science fiction and fantasy, popular science and the occasional biography or other non fiction work.

Basically, if the story is something that did happen or couldn't happen, I'm down. If it's just something that hasn't happened, for some reason I can't summon much interest.

History books can get pretty exciting if you're looking at the right era/place. Revolutionary War? Fun times.

Historical fiction is also pretty fun

Russka by Edward Rutherfurd was so much fun, but I am loathe to recommend it as it's a good 960 pages

However, if you are looking for a long read, it is highly recommended

I'm reading On The Origin Of Species right now, because I'm hoping to study genetics this year so I kind of feel like I have to. It's been slow going so far, though. Darwin loved him a run on sentence.

In winter my favourite hot beverage when I'm at home is a cup of black tea with lemon, and possibly some honey or sugar to take off a little of the edge.

Oh god I almost want winter to roll around right now.

Crazy. I just made some white tea, sat down, loaded up SE++ and at the top is a tea thread.

I love tea. White or Green is bestest.

Historical fiction: is that hypothetical scenarios about real past events? For example, what would have happened if Hitler had choked on a lemon seed and died before starting the war type of books?

Because I've always wanted to read books like that.

No, it's more like, fictional characters living through real past events.

History isn't changed, but the characters written about didn't actually exist.

yeah but he's also complaining about how people react to him as a result
and I'm saying accept that as a consequence of your choice to read so narrowly

it's a choice he makes and if he doesn't like the consequences of that choice, then choose to read more broadly
otherwise, accept that people are going to look down on you for reading almost entirely within two genres that are (with some good justification) viewed as rather juvenile

Really though? Fuck those people. Fuck their narrow mindset.
To be fair, isn't only reading a couple of genres pretty damn narrow minded? don't tell me you don't look down on and judge other people based on how they dress or what music they listen to. You're human, so of course you do this. It's natural. Only you're pretending that this shouldn't apply to your tastes. :P

The people that don't fit into the crowd always like to blame the crowd for not appreciating them because the crowd is narrow minded. Hmmm...

I guarantee that the same people who outright sneer about what I read rarely ever touch those genres. And I understand your point. I agree with your point. Suggest me some books, goddammit.

Edit: Trust me, you're preaching to the wrong man.
well, I really enjoy reading about science in general
so I don't know if you'd enjoy them, but some non-fiction books I've really enjoyed:

I tend to stick to Earl Grey or Orange Pekoe. I'm basically an old lady.
But sometimes i'll spring for something more exotic.
Also I have been known to pour a pot of tea, leave the lid off, forget about it and leave the house entirely.

Yeah I always leave tea lying around.

We make tea at home out of habit, even if we don't necessarily always feel like drinking.

There is pretty much always a pot of tea sitting in the kitchen, in various states of brew and temperature.

I make a very tasty Russian Tea. People round these parts can attest to it. A bit sweet but I think it has a nice orange twang to it.

Also, it's 6am and what the fuck am I doing up.

The Oxfam shop in the city sells organic fair trade Earl Grey With Bergamot. That is some tasty junk.

Also I stopped taking milk in my tea a couple of years ago. It is true, once you go black you never go back.

I am an incredible lover of tea but I have also grown increasingly fond of ice tea.

It is just awesome if you don't fancy juice but can't be arsed with something fizzy either. It is an awesome inbetween drink. I usually drink it in 1 litre bottles and it makes you piss like fucking crazy.

The real abomination in terms of tea is any tea that comes with fruit in it.

Actually I shall post it here if that is okay!

These are probably my favourite five books of the past 3-4 years:

Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Death and the Penguin by Andrey Kurkov
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

All readily available for cheap on Amazon!

Carter beats the devil is amazing!

I went to look for it after i saw a really kickass affiche for it. (didn't even know it was a book at that point) you know, the early 50's style ones?
