I dunno how rats cooking shit beat out a fucking film about an Iranian during the Iranian Revolution

    goddamn.

Have you seen Ratatouille? It was really, really good.

I still need to see Persepolis. I read the book and it was fantastic, now all that remains is the film.

I've seen Ratatouille about 5 times at this point

you are gonna be blown away by how well the book's style translates into animation, its fantastic

I know it's absolutely fantastic, so I won't be as blown away as you probably think.

    But yes, dang.

Persepolis was wonderful. A lot darker than I expected, but enjoyable.

My favorite animated film is still Princess Mononoke, but if any studio gets to be above the 'anime' classification, it's Ghibli.

at some tokyo hostel they had a copy of spirited away and someone who had never seen it asked this local japanese girl about it and she said she its good and she loves miyazaki and hes always got really nice messages and that spirited away is about the importance of having a job

which i guess is true but had not really occurred to me before because that is a hella japanese way to look at things

i think most japanese people dont watch anime, like its still a pretty damn geeky thing over there for the most part

    but they all love miyazaki
but so does anyone who has seen his movies doesnt matter who you are or where you from

I didn't like Spirited Away all that much. The Cat Returns was more enjoyable. The best thing about Spirited Away's success is that Disney then proceeded to bring just about every single Ghibli film in existence to the US, and with an excellent dub at that.

My second favorite is probably Whisper of the Heart. Porco Rosso and Nausicca are also good.

John Lassetter from Pixar is a huge Ghibli fan, and Miyazaki's one of his biggest influences.

    idiots

also porco rosso was pretty great but a lot simpler than his other movies
understandable given that it was apparently made to show during domestic flights in japan??
