I couldn't sleep so I played a few ranked matches, 11PM-12AM EST had much better people than when I normally play in the evening. I have it set to "same skill" and I actually got people with similar BP and skills which hasn't happened before for me. Lost to my second good Cammy of the night (I have some sort of mental block on Cannon Drills, she is now my nemesis) but beat a 2000BP Sagat (I hover around 1200BP) which was really sweet, I think that was the highest BP player I'd actually taken on in ranked so far. I might have to deprive myself of sleep more often.

EDIT: I have the baby chick dressed as a cowboy for my icon and I rock the title "Legendary Loser" because I ain't so hot at this game :)

on 360 all you have to do is hit guide button then hit X to sign out which brings you back to the title screen.

on taking 50 tries to get into a match, just play arcade mode with ranked requests turned on.

Since you had a lot more to your post, I thought I'd separate it out to emphasize how true it is. Do not search for matches. Use requests-on Arcade Mode instead.

I am not too angry anymore, is there any reason it takes me at least 10 tries to get into a game?

It is the same for me, im trying to find out why. I have a router but the connection test says NAT 2. I haven't forwarded any ports so im on the hunt for the numbers now and im hoping that will fix the "unable to join" message. Also 3/4 of the players show 0 bars for connection quality which i found a bit odd, i took a risk and started a game with one of the players and it turned out to be one of the least laggy games ive ever played. Any guru to shed some light?

Not being able to get into a game when searching is pretty normal. As acidlacedpenguin suggested, use Arcade mode with requests instead.

Your NAT level being 2 on the PS3 is medium (I think). On 360 we get strict, moderate and open. I forget what number means "open" on PS3, but that helps get into games with other players who have strict or moderate NAT settings. It shouldn't keep you from getting into all games, though, only some.

I don't know the PS3 port forwards off-hand, but have you tried enabling UPnP and DHCP? I know DD-WRT has some difficulty using UPnP with static IP addresses, so I had to enable both to get the router to negotiate ports on its own.

As for the 0 bars thing, I think that just means the connection strength hasn't been measured yet. You probably got an actual connection of 3 or 4, but it hadn't been measured out by the time you got to that screen.

yep, and if you wait for the bars to show up you'll be beaten by one of them pesky machines.

I haven't been on that late, but I'm around 1500bp and yesterday I took down a 7500bp Dhalsim. My guess is that, even though the guy played pretty well, he must've switched to Dhalsim fairly recently. Jumped and teleported a lot, and my Vega was fast enough to counter.

As for the title/icon, I kinda like the tie and shades chick, and used to be "Managing Director", but now I'm set to "Crisis Ace". I'm not sure if this is a mistake or not. Does it warn people that they should be extra careful when it gets down to the line, or do they ignore it completely? I haven't noticed much difference. I imagine no one else here changes their playstyles based on titles, (except when you see a really low title and guess the player is much better than that) since people can set them to anything.

I'll respond to a lot of what's been said since I last logged on.

FIGHTPADS: I got mine on eBay for $50 shipped. $10 more than retail, but whatever. I just kept an eye on numerous auctions; Ryu fightpads seem to go for the cheapest. I've heard that sometime this month they should be hitting stores again, so you may want to keep a look out. I will say that it's so much easier to use than a 360 controller.

Searching for Ranked games: Custom search, set the rounds to how ever many you want, and SET EVERYTHING ELSE TO "ANY." (Thanks to Degami for this tip). Seriously, you get like 12 matches in 2 seconds, scroll to the middle and select one. Very easy and reliable. Of course, if you're wanting a particular BP level, then it's going to be more difficult.

Lag: I rarely see it, even when clicking on people who have the flashing symbol. On the rare occassions that I do have it, I drop out. I have no interest in playing games with serious lag, and I doubt my opponent does either.

Now I have a question: what's the best site for go-to combos? I'm not talking about insane links, but rather solid, simple combos that can help me (Gouken) better capitalize on my opponent's mistakes.

I won't be able to look at any of the sites now (on a school network), but post where you go. I've tried the SRK boards but they use an abbreviated form tht I don't understand.

For any UK people with PS3's the gameshark store has PS3 fightsticks in stock it seems http://store.gameshark.net/ps3/index.htm

I feel dirty for lowering myself to the level of those ebay people but even though i only have a 360 I just ordered one in the hope that i can at least sell it for enough to get myself a 360 one.

This is the way i do it, and i get tons of matches. However, you can leave "Language" on English. It's faster than Arcade mode really. The matches seemed very balanced to me. However, if you want to fight a specific Skill Range, then stick to Arcade mode.

Gouken can probably combo into a LP fireball from almost any normal attack, especially a jump-in kick or a crouching MK.

He can also combo from his EX rush palm to a HP rush palm.

i have won matches just with those.

I was getting juggled by a Gouken last night. Any mistake I'd make would end in me being airborn for a good 15 seconds with no control of my character. Seemed largely to revolve around comboing into a throw, then chasing the throw with the rush palm, and often ending with the rising HK.

gouken's corner juggle combos are sickening. Pretty much any special can be followed after a juggle (hurricane kick, ultra, super, plam, fireball). Hell, you can FA cancel his counter attack -> ultra in corners :|

Hardest part is actually getting an opponent into a corner. Gouken doesn't exactly have a strong rush down game even if most of his attacks send the opponent flying.

To clear up for the people who have match up issues for online if you are on X360 Use the arcade mode with requests on method for getting decent matches, searching results in failures about 50% or more of the time. On PS3 search for matches the players are generally better over all.

I own both versions. The way quality of players for systems by method varies greatly, Arcade requests get me mostly total scrubs on ps3.

I think that works great for 2000 and lower BP ranges but at 4000+ I consistently get people with way less BP than me when I do Arcade requests.

So now I just go through the pain of custom searches, which I guess I've kind of gotten used to. Failure rate isn't too bad for me, seems to have gotten a lot better since launch.

Well if you are playing on the PS3 with people in 2 of 3 rounds with a timer of 60 seconds and the Italian language you'll find the best comp.

The 360's 2 of 3 60 seconds Italian are actually Doom Death matches disguised in the game.

I got the Dhalsim's gamer tag and beat him in a casual rematch, but the guy playing Chun was a bit of a dick.
