Also, guinea pigs are stinky and do a bad job of cleaning themselves. Sure, they're cute, but there's more to life than that. :P

not to mention they're incredibly affectionate and easy to take care of provided you let them run around every now and again without getting snatched up by passing hawks

Yeah, I'd rather not put up with that for the first couple of months of having them, especially when I can have something clean that's just as affectionate (not to mention very intelligent) and easy to take care of in the form of a couple of rats.

I've trained my rats to do their business in a single corner of the cage, rather than all over the damn place. Makes clean up so much easier. This is part of why I appreciate intelligence in my furry companions.
My friend had one. it gave us kisses only we called them "face hugs" because he would put his paws around your nose and his mouth over the tip of it and stay like that for a minute in greeting and then continue on with his life.
