This week was a good one. I picked up Annihilation, Astonishing, Iron Fist, Shadowpact #2 (catching up on this one) and Jack of Fables. All were good, JoF was a bit of a dip in quality from the previous books, the rest were great.

My fav of the week would be Annihilation, just so much awesome in this one. At this point im considering launching some sort of campaign to get Super Scrull and Ronan their own book like Cable and Deadpool.

    Annihilation was super awesome.

Astonishing was very good, although not as many awesome moments as last week. The end was fantastic, though.

So do you just troll now, or is that all you have ever done?

Daredevil may not be to your tastes, but you cannot deny the quality of the creative teams that book has had for years now.

    This man is a visionary.

Seriously, Annihilation was the best book I bought this week, and considering how good everything was this week, that's saying something. A Ronan and Super Skrull book would be so bought.

It's okay. Kind of the standard, "Teenage kid gets powers beyond his control, a mysterious guy answers some shit cryptically, his teenage supporting cast tosses out some quips, and he fights some stuff." I actually think the series picked up in quality at issue seven, but it's still a pretty average book. Not bad, not good, just sort of there. Though the latest issues have shown some promise, now that it's kind of established the protagonist.

If you have no emotional connection to the other Blue Beetle (like me) you will probably get more enjoyment out of it. Like Munch said, it's not phenomenal, but it's pretty much the only place to go if you're interested in the new character. Fun and average.

52- Steady as always. Big things are set up, with some advancement in Steel/Natasha's story, and a little bit in Question and Renee's. The Black Adam Family/Suicide Squad battle was pretty good, though I thought Isis went down kind of easily. My only complaint was that some of the lineart in the last few pages was kind of poor. What should have been a great, dramatic shot of Luthor on the last page didn't have as much impact due to the jagged, ugly pencils/inks. Still, a solid B+ Brian Bolland also turned in some great work on Zatanna's back-up.

JSA: Classified- A good wrap-up to a two-part Dr. Midnite story. It featured a very interesting twist that revolved around an old DC villain. Rags Morales' pencils were as pretty as always. Scott Beatty's dialogue, plot, and pacing is great, as always. A I have to say, I was kind of surprised that Rags Morales wasn't bashed on any of the many feminist comic blogs due to his drawing [spoiler:ae70cb08dd]Icemaiden strapped to a table naked and having her face peeled off. Given that and his drawing of Sue Dibny's rape, I figured he'd be a bit of a hot topic this week. Ah well.[/spoiler:ae70cb08dd]

Blue Beetle- Hamner's art is good as always, and Albuquerque's few pages weren't bad at all, though his lines aren't quite as clean as Hamner's. Giffen and Rogers also turned in one of their best, funniest scripts to date. Honestly, personal feelings towards this book aside, this was a really good issue. A Here's my one complaint though, [spoiler:ae70cb08dd]I cannot stand Jaime. Even when he's doing something badass and heroic, like confronting a New God to save his friend, he still fucks up. I mean, Lonar was cradling Brenda, surrounded by fallen Rat-people, and trying to calm Jaime down, and Jaime still thinks, "Rarrr Lil' Beetle smash Conan-lite!" Argh, Jaime, please stop being retarded.[/spoiler:ae70cb08dd]

Justice League of America- Hey, plot progression! The big three get off their asses, a posse if formed, and uneasy alliances are made. Benes turns in his usual good, albeit slightly Jim Lee-ish work, and Meltzer's dialogue and narration is as powerful and evocative as ever. Still, I'd recommend getting this in the inevitable trade, as it's just moving too slowly from issue to issue. A [spoiler:ae70cb08dd]I have to say, Barda arming superhero wives with New Genesis/Apokoliptian tech is pretty goddamn awesome.[/spoiler:ae70cb08dd]

Iron Fist- Very good, just like the first issue. This one focuses primarily on the Iron Fists of the past, Danny Rand's recuperation, and a special visit from Luke Cage to let Danny know that someone's stolen their Heroes for Hire name. Brubaker, Fraction, Aja, and Foreman are just lighting this book up. Fraction and Brubaker write some great dialogue, and just generally do a good job of keeping the reader engaged throughout the book. My only complaint is the quality of the WWI flashbacks. The art's just kind of ugly; stumpy figures, weird facial expressions, overworked details, and so on. On its own it wouldn't even be that bad, but when it's right next to Aja's stuff, its imperfections become noticeable. Still a solid A.

Nextwave- MEDOKs (Mental Elvis Designed Only for Killing), Wolvermonkeys, Cyclopasaurs, superpowered Stephen Hawkings, siamese twin samurais and much more. The full brunt of HATE's resources spill out onto Nextwave, and the result is absolutely beautiful. I laughed out loud at numerous points in this book. This is about to end, so be sure to buy it in hardcover. In fact, buy six. Then buy the Absolute Omnibus Editions. Then have each page made into wallpaper and wallpaper your home. It's that good. A+

Rokkin sped to its dramatic conclusion with this final issue. The big confrontation was a bit rushed, and the dialogue was a little off as usual, but the art and action more than makes up for it. If you don't care much about the story, and just want to see some cool characters chopping up monsters, this is for you. A

Connor Hawke: Dragon's Blood- Book of the week right here. Dixon has created several interesting new characters, like the egotistical archer and showman Tony Crowfoot, Crowfoot's human target and assisstant Brandy Sloane, big game hunter Libby Lindstrom, and zen archer Honduro Kishu. He's also added some more depth to Connor Hawke, establishing a bit of an inferiority complex in the character, and playing up the fantastic nature of his past exploits, like comparing Lindstrom's big game hunts to his own adventures hunting dinosaurs. Eddie Fyers also plays a great jackass when paired with Connor's straightman nature. Donovan's clean, beautiful art really compliments Dixon's writing as well. Seriously, if you're not reading this, you should be. A+

I have to say, this was a really good week for comics.

It's nothing you can't see on Dr. 90210.

I agree on the others, however. Great week. Detective Comics was fantastic, as usual, and Aquaman was good as well. It's a shame that Busiek is leaving the book after #50. Another shame is that Freedom Fighters ends with just two more issues. [spoiler:f1972bf6a2]Im glad Stan Silver ended up being a S.H.A.D.E. double agent. Hopefully this means that either Ray Terrill will make a return, or we just don't have to see Stan ever again. [/spoiler:f1972bf6a2]

    Oh boy, Onslaught Reborn #2!

It was better than Reborn #1. I'm a Liefeld fanboy, so I bought it. It's got Hulk vs Thor, which is always fun. But yeah, it still sucks.

How can you be a Liefeld fanboy if you admit that it sucks?

I knew there was a reason I liked you. Well, this and that thing you do with your tongue and eyelids.

Seconded. I love Ollie but I was disappointed at how much of a back seat Connor took when they brought him back.

I've heard that Connor is into taking the back seat.

How many times does he have to tell you? He's not gay.
