I don't know what's worse, the fact that I already knew what it was beforehand, or the fact that I'm clasping my hands Mr. Burns style waiting to hear peoples' responses.
My recent play through was on Veteran, and with Bring Down the Sky I hit level 50 on Virmire, because I was working on Ally achievements in that run as well. I didn't do the five gathering quests, and got Liara's achievement before I even set down on Virmire.

Different skin color is totally different than entirely different composition and texture. There were different crest colors in ME. There were not entirely different looking crests (aside from Wrex's rad scar). It's like saying a hand and a foot are the same because they're both at the end of an appendage.
Do you look at a picture of the Thing from Fantastic 4 and think "hey, that's a perfectly normal dude"? Probably not.
I'm just going to assume that Grunt is the victim of some sort of horrible mutation that gives him a funny looking crest and the eyesight of your average Rhino (see, this explains why he just charges blindly at everything all the fucking time).
Still going to have him in my party though, even if he is a poor substitute for Wrex.

The reason there weren't different crests in ME1 is because they were using the same character models. Basically budgeting =/= universal canon.
If the dude can survive a nuke, he's a-ok in my book.

As an on-topic matter, uh, the graphics don't look that sharp in that picture. The ground in particular looks really awful.
The ground is perfect, look at all that grey, it's so next gen it hurts. We just need to add 90 points of light bloom and it will be next next gen as well.
