Reading this thread is almost depressing. On top of thinking about my own backlog, I keep seeing games that I don't even own but really want to play now!

I completely agree! The upside of that is that most of those games on people's backlogs are dirt cheap now.

I try to play most non- A+ titles that I am interested in about a year late, that way I can purchase them for ~$20. It is better than buying them all for $60 and then playing them a year later.

lol - but the point is that most of us own these games in our backlog :)

If anyone's been reading the Elder Scrolls thread, they saw me doing my duty for my backlog, finishing up Morrowind with both expansions. It now feels like the way ahead of me is clear with that done, it took me like 4 months.

I'm gonna try to update my Backloggery account with everything I need to finish, there's a bunch. I could make a decent sized list just of ADVENTURE games. Hell, I'll make that list now:

Wallace and Gromit: all 4 episodes unfinished
Tales of Monkey Island: 3 unfinished, later ones as they come out
    The Dig
    Indiana Jones: Fate of Atlantis
    Been There, Dan That
    Time Gentlemen, Please
    Myst 4
    Myst 5
King's Quest Collection (I've beaten 6, other than that, all of them)
    Space Quest Collection (all)
Police Quest Collection (ok yes, a little ambitious with these, I know)
    Bad Mojo: Redux

There might be a few more I'm missing there.

Edit:: Forgot Escape from Monkey Island and Starship Titanic

Best just to get in the habit of updating regularly, it has helped me immensely with titles I've forgotten and quickly finished. I don't know for other people but for myself it also helps me keep focus and get the game finished in a timely manner since I'm always updating.

Just to weigh in on Achievements as far as game backlogs are concerned, I've found that two thirds tends to be a good number. Many games have Achievements that are impossibly difficult to get, with the other Achievements rewarding either regular play or being creative.

Take Team Fortress 2 for example. Given it's an online game, there's no way to finish it as such. However, getting two thirds of the Achievements means I've played it very thoroughly and explored everything the game has to offer.

I've almost finished with Left 4 Dead as well in that regard. Only 9 more Achievements before I can tick it off the list and dedicate more time to Giants: Citizen Kabuto. :D

I'm in complete agreement on this one, I generally tend to hit a general point medium of 400-600 on 360 titles without really pushing it. If it happens that I get them along the way so be it, but ones that require farming say in multiplayer I tend to give a wide berth. More to the point when I do achievement farming its either because I'm playing a title that I've already beaten on another console and I'm replaying it again for good times (ie Quake 4) or it's a title I really enjoy like Orange Box for 360. Then I go all out.

How did one of you get all the achievements for Portal? With the imprecision of the analog aiming and the bugged step counter and all? Because that is freaking amazing. I was going to consider that one done once I finished off every other game and just keep telling myself that those Portal achievements were impossible.

You mean Basic Science, Rocket Science, and Aperture Science?

Yeah, those Achievements can join the Companion Cube. However, Cupcake, Fruitcake, and Vanilla Crazy Cake were fun to get because it rewarded clever thinking.

I pretty much ignore achievements. I consider them as an above and beyond thing for games I really enjoy (like Rock Band or whatever). If I'm just playing through a game on my backlog, I'm not going to go out of my way for them.

Yeah, with a 360 pad I can imagine it being incredibly frustrating. It's bad enough with a keyboard and mouse, let me tell you.

I thought my backlog was bad. I've got about 5 disc based PS3 games, 5 disc based Wii games, about 5 PSN titles and some PSP titles that I haven't finished and am not currently plugging away at. Some of you backlogs are scary.

Well, first game off my backlog, as I completed Dead Space: Extraction. I'm only going to update my total complete by 1%, since I don't have all my backlog listed yet, but I know it is less than 100 :)

The few people who've never played (or simply never finished) Super Metroid make me sad.

The first rule is somewhat unclear: "new" being somewhat vague.

I've been intending to buy Aladdin (SNES) for some time. Would I not be allowed to? I've already beaten the game many times. I presume "new" is more "would add to the backlog", but I'd like clarification before I post my list of games I already own and should probably get around to beating.

Yeah, I just didn't include stuff that I have no intention of completing.

EDIT: Spirit of the agreement would indicate no buying things that would add to backlog. You want to pick up an old game for collector's sake? Sounds fine by me.

Ah what the hell, I might as well too. In the end, I'm sure I will feel better about myself and justify some of the prices I paid for these games in the first place. Most of the 360 games I have were from trades or I got extremely cheap. It's a huge list, and I will probably buy some more games in between, but I want to mainly focus on these.
