    No SIM card.

I'm also using my old Blackberry Storm A/C and car charger with my Droid and they seem to work just fine. The Droids A/C charger is just a dongle type thing for a USB-mico USB cable anyway. Which, by the way, is way to short for such a thing in my case.

The only complain about the build quality for me is that the back battery cover seems to open and fall off pretty frequently in my pocket. Doesn't take much to get it to slide down. Doesn't take much to put it back on but it's still an annoyance when it does.

Moto devices only seem to like Moto power cords, it is a slight handicap.
I'm using an old LG charger, since the cord that comes with the Droid is ridiculously short. It works fine.

Certain devices require extra power. The USB AC adapter I used for the iPod Touch does not power my Zune, for example.

So I have a dilemma, my wife gets her new phone Dec 11th. I get my new phone mid-July. Should I bug her to let me use her upgrade to get a Droid for myself now, or should I wait till July and see if even better Android phones are released? I've got an Env2 right now, which I like just fine, but I want to get an Android phone but I wasn't sure if I should go ahead and go for the Droid or if there are a bunch of new Android phones on the horizon I should wait for?

Supposedly there will be a bunch of Android phones out before the year ends. Google is also reportedly planning to release their own branded phone in 1Q10. By July the market will probably be flooded with Android phones and you can have your pick of the litter.

I also have an Env2, but my 2-year upgrade is up in February, woo!

Balls. Guess I'll pull the "spare" normal charger out of my wife's car.

Loaded up Dolphin today. It's not quite as polished as the Android Browser, but it's got tabs and pinch zoom.

Don't know about camera apps, so I'll leave that to someone else.

BUT. Came here to post that the 2.0.1 Firmware update is rolling out early (as in, um, today) and that while it mostly covers behind-the-scenes stuff (better battery life, improved camera auto-focus, better audio, visual voicemail improvements, etc.), there are also some cosmetic changes to the lock screen. I haven't received the update yet, but it may be because I don't have access to WiFi - apparently, you need to be connected to the Internet via WiFi to receive the update. Hm.

Got my update just now. Took roughly 2 minutes, if not less, to update. The only major visual change I can see is the lock screen. Which doesn't have the arching swipe anymore and is now a straight left to right to unlock and right to left for sound. The font and such of the time and date is also different and no white line dividing the two.

Aw, damn. I liked the arch fine. It matches the natural sweep of a swiped thumb. I was really hoping "lock screen changes" meant music controls on the lock screen. I must be the only person using this as my main media player. :P

And yes, I know there's an app that adds music controls to the lock screen. Unfortunately, its implementation is horrible right now. Hopefully it'll improve.

What is going on with visual voicemail? Is that the thing I have to pay Verizon to use? I am currently using a google voice account tied to my regular number to handle my voicemail. Transcribes them so I don't have to call in and also has playback through the app. Only down side is there a slight delay from when they call until when the voicemail will pop the notifier.

Has anyone noticed a significant increase in call quality since the update?

So, my boyfriend traded in his Droid for the Eris after we noticed pretty terrible call quality over Thanksgiving while we were talking for extended periods of time. It isn't something you notice on a call that last a couple minutes, though - it's pretty subtle. It seems like the Droid "overdamps" voices. While this does completely eliminate static and background noise, it sucks because as you first start a sentence, or you trail off at the end of a sentence, it can potentially damp out that too. This was particularly annoying when my boyfriend was trying to talk quietly so he didn't wake up family members - half his sentences just disappeared. It can be semi-avoided by taking in a "staccato" fashion, but that's freaking annoying when talking for longer than, say, 30 seconds.

Anyway, he loves his Eris now, but I still want a Droid, so if this update fixed the problem then it's still in the running for my next phone.

I'm waiting for the update - enabled WiFi here at school so hopefully it'll float on over tonight or overnight. Even if it's a tiny thing, I'm excited, and I'm getting antsy. Also, while I haven't had any problems with call quality (the HTC Imagio was quite a bit worse - one of the reasons for my trading it in), there's a little room for improvement (over, say, my 5 year-old Motorola flip phone, which sounded great), so I want to check that out. Bah.

    Well, that's good news. :^:

I'm waiting to get the update OTA, just because I'm lazy.

Also: the Droid has been rooted. You can't do much cool stuff with it, yet, but this will allow the people who know how to start pumping out cool mods and such. I'm going to keep an eye on them until the clearly coolest/most stable/best supported emerge, though. I'm pretty savvy, but cell phones are too integral to life/communication these days to risk a bunch of instability. :P

Had a problem with weatherbug at first, but that seemed to fix itself.

I just updated mine manually. I agree that it seems much snappier. I'm not sure if the increase in snappiness is due to the fact that it was just rebooted for the first time in several days or because of the update.

I don't miss the rotary unlock. I'm not saying it was bad, but sometimes I like change. The new clock font is good.

I'm not sure about the camera, yet. I've only taken two pictures of my monitor, so it's hard to tell. Guess I'll have to play with it a bit more.

Aha, I got the OTA update, this morning. Yes, the UI and whatnot is snappier and smoother. Not a ton, but switching home screens, pulling up the applications tab, and that sort of thing all look smoother and less like it's straining your phone's resources to animate. Nice.

My favorite thing, though? It looks like they changed the color scheme for the default widgets! At least, the two I use: Power Control and Music. They're now using a dark color scheme, similar to the Sense UI widgets. It looks way, way better on my phone, since I use a black background. :)

That's all I've noticed so far, but I'm pretty happy. Hopefully the enhance battery life claims are true, too, although I've actually been ending days at no less than 50%, worst. Usually 60%.

In any case, this quick, pleasant update really raises my confidence that Motorola and Verizon are really putting their full weight behind this phone. I know it'll be outdated in a month, specs wise, but the huge advertising campaign, and install base as a result, means this is one Android phone that won't languish for attention/updates.

I agree that a real update for a phone this new is really impressive. What would sell me would be an option to return to the old unlock screen.

Why? Not because I give a damn. However, it seems like an easy fix and it seems to be the only "complaint" about the new update. If we did see that level of minor complaining addressed, my expectation for future development and improvements would skyrocket. I love the phone as-is, and don't know that I need much else from it, but the prospect of constant attention to the UI and functionality has me excited.

This. This is why I traded in my new HTC Imagio to get the Droid on launch day in the first place. Because of the big marketing push (compared to, say, the Storm 2), I figured there'd be lots of support for the device. I'm glad that we're seeing an update so soon, especially because it corrects minor issues to improve things overall - and, as you guys said, it bodes well for the future.

I had lots of tiny issues with the Imagio, and I knew that no fix was forthcoming. The Droid does everything better - it's more responsive, it's faster, the sound quality is better... Even little things like the screen turning off when the phone's held to your face. The Imagio did that too, but the screen would turn on if you moved it the tiniest bit, and that was annoying. I'm just thrilled with the Droid.

I just realized that if you put the phone into silent mode from the unlock screen or the power button that it disables vibrate for incoming phone calls. That's extremely annoying. Silent mode silences all sounds except media and alarms. The issue with using the volume rocker is that I first have to unlock the phone, and then hold the volume button down until it gets to vibrate. If I hold it down too long it goes to silent mode and vibrate gets turned off. This just works a lot differently than what I'm used to.
