The car thread: A Toyotathon of Death

So, the old car thread is dead and it's time someone started a new one, might as well be me. Plus I'm excited for the return of the TURBO'D BUICK REGAL:
x11bu_rg004.jpg

Yeah, it's getting the 2.0L turbocharged EcoTec from the Solstice and Sky GXP, but detuned to just 220HP. Still, pretty awesome.

Also, there are only 16 Pontiac G8 GXP's and 570 GT's on dealer lots, get them while you can.

Today I replaced 5 sparkplugs and sparkplug wires in my car. It started raining before I could get to the others.
Would have been so much easier to do when I had the engine out but whoops forgot!

The primary turbo in my B4 makes a whining noise which seems to be getting more prounounced as time goes on. A few months back I could swear it wasn't as noticeable as it is now... any ideas?

I know it's sometimes apparently normal for some whining (I don't know, I've never owned a turbocharged car before), but it never used to happen (the car is getting pretty old in terms of mileage, it's done close to 190k kms (118k miles). Last service it went for the guys didn't mention anything, but that was back when it was only a little whine. I might get it checked a little more thoroughly when I next go.

Maybe, but I'm going to guess that they'll either use a fully tuned 2L EcoTec turbo or just put in the 3.6L LLT V6 out of the Camaro/LaCrosse/Enclave for the GS.

Could be the bearings in the turbo slowing wearing out.

Yeah, I had a car with the turbo go out (2 days after I bought the damn thing; luckily my parents and I persuaded the dealer to take it back). It started with a loud whining noise, then when the seal blew out, large plumes of smoke from burning oil coming out of the exhaust.

Need new tires for the Fit.

Need to replace the hoopty, because it is worth maybe 900, and it needs new tires and a new switch thingy in the dash to make the turn signals work. And you can no longer open the driver's door from the outside.

There are some gauges you don't want on the inside.

Soooo the windshield wipers on my car stopped working between last night and this morning some time.
We fixed them last time by messing with some of the wiring, I might take part of the dash off on my lunch break and try to fix them again. Least it wasn't raining this morning!

I thnk the 4-dr ones are ugly as sin, but I like the Sport 2-dr ones.

My wipers stopped working in the middle of a trip to Purdue to see my girlfriend. A little over an hour from home, stuck in one lane construction traffic in the middle of a rainstorm. They eventually started working again after I fiddled with the stalk for a few minutes, but I was sooo scared I'd be stuck on the side of the road with no wipers.

Great if you go off roading a lot

Not so great if you don't like having to take anything of value out of the car with you whenever you park

Ha ha, yep. Intermittant electrical faults always go away by themselves.

It's probably a bad earth, or the wiper fuse clip in the fuse box has corrosion buildup on the contacts. May be a loose wire, but they don't tend to just come loose unless you have touched them previously.

I think my problem is located within the windshield wiper/cruise control/brights stalk. The cruise control works when it wants to, the wipers started acting up and I can't even engage my brights, because I have a hell of a time disengaging them.

Might be because of all the rattlin' third-gen Camaro's do. Something is probably loose in there.
