Via 4th Letter, the Realm of Kings hardcover is currently available for pre-order for $11, saving you almost $30 off the retail cost.

Was it any good? Look at its contents, I don't really care about Son of Hulk or the Imperial Guard.

Imperial Guard was written by DnA, so it was probably pretty good. Admittedly, I'm a bit behind on my Marvel cosmic comics.

For anyone that can't make it to Free Comic Book Day, but will have access to a computer, Heavy Ink is participating in the program this year.
Want free comics? May 1st is “Free Comic Book Day” at brick and
mortar stores … and on the web at HeavyInk.com.

HeavyInk.com is the only online retailer offering free comic books to
anyone who wants them, mailed to your home, no purchase necessary.

Not only are we giving away the comics, but we’re subsidizing the USPS
First Class shipping! (yes, our bookkeeper is hyperventilating about
this … but we think it’s going to work out well).

Starting at 10am on May 1st (this Saturday!), we’re going to put up a
new free comic book every 20 minutes at

    http://heavyink.com/fcbd

Just click the “Get Free Comic” button to grab a copy.

Twenty minutes later that comic will disappear and be replaced with a
    new one, all day long.

Check back often to snap up additional free comic books.

We usually brag that everything we sell is 20% off, and shipping is as
cheap as 99 cents … but when you start with a free comic book, a 20%
discount on top of “free” doesn’t really matter!

In between new freebies every 20 minutes, you can check out our
    discounted graphic novels at

    http://heavyink.com/graphic_novels

So, apparently there was this guy at my LCS yesterday who is the artist on a comic called "Husk" (couldn't find mention of it anywhere), and is apparently a Marvel artist as well.

Any clues as to who he was? I didn't catch his name.

Maybe. Its weird, but the site Munch linked and the site Wildcat linked both go to the right comic, but list different artists/pencilers/colorers.

Poor bastard...the day his comic comes out, and he's having his celebration at my rinky dink backwaters LCS? He...he even had his agent there with him. I feel so bad now for blowing him off when my LCS dealer tried to promote him.

I guess he lives locally...that's the only reason I can think of for him being at my LCS on his release day.

Ok, I'm hijacking the Hookup thread to talk about FCBD purchases. Everyone else feel free to chime in.

I'm on vacation, but I found a store nearby that had 30% off everything for FCBD. Not the best deal ever, but I did manage to get Unwritten vol. 1, Robin: Year One, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vol. 1 and 2 for about $40.

I was just about to post my haul. The actual FCBD books aren't much to talk about. New England Comics only let you take two in addition to Tick #1, so I missed out on everything except Atomic Robo and that Thor/Iron Man Fraction book.

The awesome part was that they let you take 10 books out of five of their back issue bins for free. I got Sentry #1, Marvel Assistant Sized Spectacular #1, Welcome to Tranquility Armageddon, Maintenance #8, The Thing #3, Captain Britain & MI:13#5 and two issues of 52.

Their discount trades had good deals too, allowing me to get Essential Daredevil #1, Marvel Visionaries Spider-Man (reprinting #1-8 of Untold Tales of Spider-Man), Spider-Man's Tangled Web Volume 2, and Marvel Knights Black Panther, all for 50% off.

Really glad I went their to check out the FCBD books.

I did pretty well. There are two comic stores with in a half mile of each other here. I took my daughter and 2 of her friends. Both stores had a limit of 3 or 5 w/ purchase. At the 2nd store my kid didn't want any of the other free books, so she got them for me. I got the Tick, both Iron Mans, and Irredeemable but misses the Atomic Robo. Both stores had a few old FCBD books from years past and other promo books.

Not to mention the store I like had 10% of purchases off TPB. I picked up Sandman #2 along with my normal picks.

FCBD at the store I work at was insane. I work at Kingdom Comics in Vestavia Hill, AL.

If you notice this is a chunk of the line. You don't see the store in this pic and you don't see the end of the line. This was about 10 minutes before we opened.
    30939146468505611812032.jpg

We had all the books. We had thousands to give out. No purchase needed just don't take more than 1 of each. We ran through about 90% in about 3 hours. We had some quater boxes set out so I would let people get a few of those for free since there wasn't much to give out later on in the day. We had people dressed up and everything. The cosplayers were Aquaman, Ms. Marvel, Sally Jupiter (Modern Watchmen Movie version), Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Princess Leia, Storm Trooper, and Boba Fett. We also ran a big sale. We had 75% off certain TPB and HC boxes, most action action figure were over 50% off, T-Shirts were 35% off, the rest of the TPB/HCs were 35% off, back issue bins were 40% off, and Wall comics (older and/or expensive stuff we keep behind the counter) were 30% off.

    Here's a few more pictures.

I know all of you guys read and buy Invincible already, but if you are in the market for the original trades, the first 5 volumes are dirt cheap if you buy them Used-Like New on Amazon. Together they'd run about $25, and $5 a trade is pretty fucking good, I think. Don't be turned off by the fact that they're used; used-like new books are the same condition as the books you'd buy off the shelf at your LCS or book store. Generally speaking, you can save a lot by doing this with most books that are a few years old or older.

Yeah, it's per book, so keep that in mind when you go with the 3rd party vendors. Sometimes it's cheaper to just go with Amazon if you're getting enough items to qualify for Super Saver shipping. But for older or less in demand trades, usually it's cheaper with a 3rd party.

Mile High Comics is having a 50% off sale on TPBs and Hardcovers if you buy 10 or more.
Moving on to news from Mile High Comics, the big deal (as in REALLY big deal) for this morning is that I've decided to try and experiment for the next five days. Effective through Monday, at noon Colorado time, you can purchase darn near any of our in-stock trade paperbacks and hardbacks for half price. The "catch" to this offer is that you have to purchase at least ten books to qualify for this incredible discount. That may sound like a lot, but you have to bear in mind that at 50% off, we're making nearly nothing on these book sales. We get our books from Diamond at 57% off, and then have to pay freight in (and out) as well as our labor costs to ship the orders. Effectively, we lose money on every book we sell at 50% off.

In any event, a couple of very quick ground rules for the book sale. First, order any ten trade paperbacks and hardbacks, and then simply ignore what the computer tells you is the final purchase price. We will manually override those prices, and replace them for you with a straight 50% discount. Second, a very few books are exempted form this sale, simply because they weigh so much. This includes EC Slipcase Sets, Omnibus Hardcovers, Absolute Editions and any other oversized hardcovers (if you any questions, please contact our Back Issue Department). We'll still let you purchase those books at a very advantageous price during this sale, but we somehow need to figure out a way to not get killed by the "free" freight that we offer on all orders over $50 for domestic orders, and $125 for all International orders. Write to Byron in customer service (back_issue@milehighcomics.com), and he'll reply to you with the best price that we can give you on those particularly heavy books. On all other books that we list (including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, and all Independent books of "normal" weight), we will give you the straight 50%. International customers do need to bear in mind, however, that the small shipping surcharges that we add on all trade paperback and hardback orders will still apply.

    I grabbed:

    Annihilation TPB Vol. 1-3
    Atomic Knights HC
    Batman RIP TPB
    JLA Deluxe Edition Vol. 3
    Gotham Central Vol. 2-3 HC
Spider-Man Clone Saga Epic Vol. 2 TPB
    Scalped Vol. 3 TPB

All for $134.96 (269.92 before the discount)

So yeah, if you have the scratch it's a pretty good deal.
