refusing to allow someone to build a particular religious structure because it's from a religious tradition they don't like doesn't count as an abridgment of freedom to you?

    what?

not when it's superfluous and mosques exist without it, no

um that doesn't mean it's okay

for example! The star of David is not required in the Jewish faith to be displayed anywhere, so by your logic banning the use of that star on all buildings wouldn't be an abridgment of religious freedom

    BUT IT TOTALLY WOULD

That's not quite the same, though. Symbology is closely analogous to language, while architecture is not.

Your structure is also inviting a "'nuh-uh' 'yeah-huh'" sorta deal. Don't do that. You aren't eight years old any more.

I thought this was hilarious when I read that there are like 4 minarets in the country.

I could understand it if there were like 94,000 of them or something.

That's actually an important distinction. There's a big difference between despising a belief and despising those who hold it. I'm not sure if it's any better, especially when you have a political leader openly expressing hatred for a religion, but there's difference.

You can't honestly know that. Even if he is lying, one man expressing an idea dishonestly doesn't render the idea universally insignificant.

Either way, it's not the kind of idea you want to spread about a country's political system.

We don't like it when German-speaking politicians go about condemning minority religions in their countries.
I am honestly surprised it took this long

It should should really be left up to local governments to decide whether they want to grant planning permission for minarets. Are they still used for calls to prayer five times a day, even in Switzerland, though?

It depends. All mosques make the call five times a day, it's part of the definition of the mosque. There are differences in the requirements based on sect, school, and local culture. Some make them from the minarets. Those without minarets and even some with them make it elsewhere. Some groups insist that it be made from a high place, some that it be made to be audible over a certain (usually vaguely defined) range, some just make a mostly symbolic call to the already-gathered congregation. It varies a lot, and is only loosely connected to whether or not the mosque has a minaret.

You can't really make demands as to what level of government certain responsibilities are laid on, unless it's your own. It isn't an issue of building codes, though. They aren't banning them based on their architectural features, only on their religious significance. A physically identical structure with no tie to Islam has no connection to the rhetoric being used here.

#1. Genital mutilation is an AFRICAN tradition, not muslim. Muslims only cut your junk off if you are a hermaphrodite.

#2. There are white muslims, and asian, and hispanic. This is why Malcom X renounced violence as un-islamic and why the nation of Islam assassinated him.
