Um.
24 himself raised that possibility. He didn't tell him anything he couldn't have simply noticed on the way in.
But then how would
It's not impossible that he could just assume that a mafia-type who didn't seem really trustworthy who was approaching The Monarch from behind might be packing such an object.
But why Ether? Why not piano wire, or a gun? It was specificaly ether.
Why are we wondering if he's bad ass enough to smell ether?
Well, Brock didn't use his knife and it didn't seem like he really wanted to kill him.

I think that's because 21 actually showed some real growth. Remember that he had said "Boo" to 21 back in "Tag Sale, You're It" from the first season, and 21 ran away screaming. This time, 21 backhanded him hard enough to draw blood. While at his heart 21 may still be your usual neckbearded geek, he's now a neckbeard who, if properly motivated, can kill you with a smile.
That's something that Brock can respect.
Me too.
I dig the fact that there's actual growth instead of the characters simply becoming distilled catch phraseable versions of themselves. 21 was funny during the Jedi bit alone.
What, Flanderization?

So far, it's been pretty damn helpful.
Another event that points to 24 being an internal manifestation of 21's inner psyche or whatever is
And Orpheus isn't going to see anything.
It'll be the saddest moment on the show.
I think it would be better if O saw 24 standing near 21, but not where 21 sees him.
I loved that part.
I have to admit I don't miss 24 so much, even leaving aside they fact he's basically in the show again anyway right now, if this is what we get in exchange.
It's interesting because almost every character has changed.
i would miss 24 a hell of a lot more if 21 had not gotten so awesome
i mean
i think he might be my favorite character now
...
cigar?
I loved the point that making a lawyer a Guild member is like giving a shark heavy weaponry.
He's always had blue eyes. Swedish murder machine and whatnot.
Or, at least, he was supposed to have blue eyes. They kind of forgot about them last season.
"Isn't Brock supposed to have blue eyes?"
"He's a lawyer AND a supervillain! That's like a shark with a grenade launcher on its head!"
Cigar?

"...what?"
Sometimes a Jerkass can have the best part of a show.
It's just that good.
I'm all for rewatching The Venture Bros, and it is very good, but don't you think that you'll be sick of all these in 6 months?
