Yeah, but Scott's definitely got more of a grasp of character and atmosphere than Cameron, which is basically what I was getting at.

    Here's a thing that isn't Avatar!
    http://dresdencodak.com/2009/09/07/the-sleepwalkers/

What? What is that? I like that.

    It's Dresden Codak

a comic by a physics major exploring science and science fiction themes. A bunch of weird storylines, good art, generally good times. Though sometimes, very rarely, it can be schmaltzy.

    Cool.

No, this is a dude, he did those as guest comics for Kate Beaton.

I just can't make myself go watch Avatar because it's as blatantly tailored to a specific demographic as Twilight is, it also happens that my hatred of the two demographics and the influence they have on pop culture is about equal.

    and (plot point spolier?)
WHY DID THAT CHICK PAINT HER HELICOPTER BLUE? DID SHE WANT TO DIE?

those were my only problems, and that its a pretty generic tale for all the hype its getting. It's not bad though.

Uh... she painted it blue to differentiate it from the enemy helicopters. Friendly fire and all that. I'm pretty sure she didnt want to get attacked by the crazy dragons she was helping.

Yeah, not so much. Its demographic is "the general public" which not as specific as "crypto-mormons".

While Avatar has a weak story, it's at least a technical milestone. Whereas, Twilight has no redeeming characteristics at all.

I'm also noticing a severe lack of people painted blue, passionately defending Avatar on YouTube.

Yes the errors of my problems have been pointed out. I was just thinking if you've got the same ship as the bad guys, why not use it to your advantage. Like wearing storm trooper outfits when busting out Leia.

Psh I can just copy and paste about avatar.
I was thinking: "Yes, this is what would happen." The native race with sticks and spears was getting slaughtered by the invading race with mechs and warships and automatic weapons.

Look, the invention of gunpowder meant the military superiority over bows and arrows. I don't think that spears are going to do much good against super mechs and gunships.

And did anyone else notice that the spears and arrows bounced harmlessly off the gunship's glass cockpit when they attacked the giant tree, and yet when they attacked the smaller tree, suddenly the spears and arrows pierced the glass cockpits easily.

    Not to mention:
The plot device that was hamfisted in order to get the guy in the alien body

    And
The fact that the entire movie is a whole-sale rip-off of "Call Me Joe." WHOLE-SALE RIP OFF.

The story was so shitty. Here's my non-spoiler summary of the movie:

NATURALISTIC CULTURE GOOD TECHNO CULTURE BAD LET US DEMONSTRATE THIS MELODRAMTICALLY AND WITH CLICHES.

    Special effects.

    The End

But it did screw with electronics and such. Thats why it seems plausible. All we know about unobtainium is that humans want it.

I didn't mean fuck with electronics as in "we can't communicate" I meant "none of our mechs will even walk"
