This was the greatest comic. When I was very young I was so enamored I made my own knock-off calvin and hobbes comic about a boy and his stuffed gorilla and their whacky adventures.
but even back then I knew it was horrible so I never showed it to anyone. I should look for it in my parent's house someday.
He's probably like, the only person in the world who can legitimately say they turned down being stinking rich for artistic integrity
that's a pretty cool thing to be able to say
Watterson's efforts against licensing his work kinda soured me on The Far Side
The Far Side is a one panel strip and worked for licensing without really affecting the integrity of the comic. There wasn't the investment in story and characters like Calvin & Hobbes.
I got one of the first collections of this for a birthday many moons ago, and along with the original Bloom County will remain one of my favorite comic strips of all time

Same thing with the Far Side collection.

edit: @ D
oh god I broke the rule
Well that makes no sense as Winnie the Pooh is always a stuffed animal never a real bear and Hobbes is clearly a poltergeist.
and now you're going to pay
Man, Winnie the Pooh is great on a whole other level. I mean, he is stuffed, but he gets fatter the more honey he eats.
Figure that out.

This one is great
His body obviously converts caloric intake into fluff. Christopher Robin's father was clearly some sort of Nano scientist.
