THE OMEGATHON!

Omegathon: Round 1
Manticore Theatre
Friday, 5:00pm
Our randomly selected teams of Omeganauts will engage in the first cage match to the death. Only without cages. Or deaths. Probably. We may just have them play Mario Kart: Double Dash.

Omegathon: Round 2
Console Freeplay
Saturday, 10:30am
Our survivors from Round 1 will be further tested and tortured for your amusement, this time in a savage arena of Geometry Wars 2. Eight teams will enter, four of those will be devoured whole for your amusement.

Saturday Night Concert
Main Theatre
Saturday, 8:30pm
We offer not one, but TWO nerdcore-filled nights for your auditory pleasure. Rock out classically with the Video Game Orchestra, followed by Paul and Storm, and then Jonathan Coulton will close out our second night of geek concerts. The first 4,000 attendees at PAX on Saturday morning will receive a wristband for guaranteed entry, with the remaining seats being given away on a first-come, first-serve basis. And the opening act? The third round of the Omegathon, featuring four teams rocking out for your pleasure.

Closing Ceremony
Main Theatre
Sunday, 5:00pm
Bear hold to the Final Round of the Omegathon and let us bid thee farewell.

These are our clues to the Omegathon. Are there only 4 rounds? How/when will people be selected? I don't know, but these are the mentions of the Omegathon in the schedule.

    Mario Kart Double Dash
    Geometry Wars 2
Round 3 has to be a Rock Band of some sort. I'm gonna lol if it's Rock Band: Green Day :P
And the final round is always a surprise...

I wonder why they didn't do something different though like they said they were going to. Oh well.

How is this not different? Only four rounds, and they're all team games.

Yeah, that Round 1 description does say teams as well. Looks like this is going to be some a team-based tournament.

Those first two rounds are also two-person team based. Leading me to believe that the third round may also be a two-person team game. Thoughts?

Yeah I should have explained. Gabe and/or Tycho mentioned a while back that they were not going to do an Omegathon for PAX EAST, that they wanted to try something completely different. Maybe it being a team focus is a good enough change for now.

They said the East Omegathon would have its own flavor, much like the rest of the show. To get from x contestants to 1 contestant and make it interesting, it needs to have multiple qualifying rounds. I imagine they kept the same name for ease of recognition and consistency. The team-based competition will definitely have a very different feel from the individual-based Prime tournament.

It could be 8 teams of two, with 1 team of two winning. OR it could be 4 teams of two, with the last round being the members of that team against each other.

Sorry for a totally newb question from an obviously newb user, but do you have to register for the Omegathon, or are people picked randomly? I know the OP said he didn't know how people would be selected, but do you have to do anything to get in the running?

If it was done anything like years past, when you pre-registered for a 3-day pass you had a checkbox to click if you wanted to be considered for the Omegathon.

D'oh, my wife bought our passes as a Christmas gift, so I don't know if she selected that or not. Also, those lanyards are awesome. I know you're done with PAX East orders, but I'm a high school teacher and one of those in our school colors would be great for my ID badge. Do you offer them regularly on your Etsy shop or what?

Yes! Order any time. You probably won't get yours mailed until after East is over but I make them year-round. Follow the instructions in the blog post (via the sig link) and I'll add you to my list. :)

This would actually be a really good crowd pleaser. Have the final round of the East Omegathon be a singles elimination match against Tycho and Gabe, with the Paint the Line opening staff roll music playing. This would be a hit. Take note, Khoo: This is the "different" you guys need for the East Omegathon in the future.

I kind of hope it's not, in the kazillion to 1 shot I got picked (or DDR anything for that matter). With my bad knee, I would feel kind of awful for my teammate.

Or, clearly, the other team would need to stand on their hands amd play. Now THAT would be entertainment. ;)

Heh, I always thought the point of the Omegathon was to select 'games' that could be anything and varied across different skillsets. You might be good at one thing and not so great at another, but that would be how it rolls.

I thought all the rounds would be secret... not that I would start trying to practice >_> <_<
