Alright - so this for PAX EC 2010 we are more organized than we have ever been (not that we set the bar very high)

Follow us on Twitter: @pax_ec_ccfp

We will use it to announce tournament details and classic console challenges

Here are some highlights of what you can expect:

Consoles:
Atari 2600
Vecrtex
NES
SNES
N64
Genesis
Saturn
Dreamcast
PS1

Tournaments:
Perfect Dark (N64)
Saturn Bomberman
Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES)
Random Atari 2600 PvP - single elimination, no game repeated

And this time we have something special for the first 5 people to complete a classic console challenge:
A rare CCFP button

sovietccfp2010d.jpg

So swing by and remember what it feels like to get your butt kicked by Battletoads.

can we bring our own games here? I don't think they had river city ransom at Pax Prime. And well, it is a pretty bitchin' game.

Yep...you can bring your own game and even your own console. But we can't hold them for you.

I think the 2600 tourney should be Combat a la 2005.

I'll bring the cart if you need!

Mmm, Dreamcast. Such endless rapid-fire tournament possibilities:

    ChuChu Rocket!
    Power Stone/Power Stone 2
Marvel vs Capcom/Marvel vs Capcom 2
Jet Grind Radio if there's some sort of quickie challenge mode.

Don't know what the good racing games are.

Also what's the policy on bringing ... uhh ... extralegal copies of games for some of these consoles?

"gay" and "rape". You keep on using those words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.

Swing by and compete, I think you will like the Random PvP tourney. The games on Combat will be included in the mix. But no one will know until seconds before their round.

If it's a cart I want to examine it before you insert it into the console, otherwise no harm, no foul.

The consoles and most games are being generously lent to us by Joe Santulli, a collector/game store owner in NJ, so I just want to make sure nothing that can potentially damage his gear gets anywhere near them.

You know one day I'd like to bring a ZX Spectrum to PAX and see how people cope with trying to beat the Banyan Tree level on Jet Set Willy <-Video link!.

I've actually looked into it and I have a converted Speccy that transmits a composite video signal. This means in theory it could work on any video device that has composite input. The other issues are power, which can be dealt with by using a step up transformer, and the use of a tape deck to load the games. I'd actually use a memory card adaptor or Microdrive instead, as no one wants to hear the screech of a Speecy as it's loading stuff. Or maybe they do, hmmm

Just as a litmus test, how much interest do you think having any British 8 bit computers at PAX would generate? I'm just not sure how they would be received....

I'd be interested in checking those out. As an older gamer I love the classics and it would be cool to see what you guys across the pond were playing while I was wasting my time on MegaMania and such.

Essentially we pick a game, determine the parameters and then leave the game in the console for some period of time and people can come by and try to beat the challenge. Yes I am being a little vague because I don't want people to know the details of the challenges ahead of time.

But this year we will announce the details of each challenge using Twitter (@pax_ec_ccfp) when each new challenge is up and ready to go.

We are also looking into using twitter to allow people to sign up for the tournaments. So if you are interested in potentially competing in one of them, please start following us.

I happen to have a pretty extensive Atari games collection, what games will be there? I can bring a bunch, too, all really good condition and playable.

We will have an assortment of common carts out for people to just plug in and play. There is no fixed list as yet. Feel free to bring yours if you want to play any of them, but we cannot be responsible for them.

Never played much Saturn either so that would be nice.

one of the challenges at pax prime was to get a total time of under 30 seconds on some mario kart 64 level. It was a dirt bike map. I was unfamiliar with the exploit but I saw a guy do it.

Any word on what dates the different tournaments will be on for those of us ridiculous people who like to plan things out a lot? Also I'm very interested in the Perfect Dark one. I assume that since this is classic console freeplay, it will be on the N64, and not following the rule of playing everything on 360 wherever possible?

We will announce both the sign ups and the actual tournaments over twitter (@pax_ec_ccfp) we have general times in mind but will refine them as we go along so they are subject to change.

Perfect Dark will actually be played on both the N64 and on the 360. So in order to win you have to be able to play both versions well as your overall tournament standing will be determined by your place in both brackets.
