Hello. I am sure there are not a lot of knitters out on the Penny Arcade forums, but just in case there are a few, there is talk of having a Ravelry/knitting/crochet meet up sometime during PAX East. For those of you who are part of Ravelry you can check the forums there, but anyone who knits, crochets, spins, weaves, etc would be more than welcome.
Nothing is set as of yet, but is seems likely that Saturday is the day that most people will be around. It also seems reasonable to either pick a coffee shop/bar close by to meet at or to arrange a corner in the Hynes where we can all meet.
I can fill in people here. I posted a note in the Remnants thread on Ravelry since there was discussion in Boston Yarn Party, 8-bits, and a couple others.
Knitting with steel sounds awesome to me!

there are a few enforcer knitters that i know of, myself included (i know, surprise, right?)
i got into it last year, and made this a few weeks ago:
it's Jayne's hat he got from his mom in the Firefly episode The Message.
Anyhoo, i probably won't have time during pax to meet up, but i'll keep an eye in here just in case.

I crochet, but if you'll welcome a hooker, I'm more than game. I'll share the info with some of my yarn-loving friends who are attending as well. Is this going on in a Ravelry group? I don't pay much attention to the forums there, I just use it for project planning and pattern sourcing. I'll go look.
I see this, this, this, this, this, and this. Maybe we should message all of them, create one big group event, then source it over here?
I propose Saturday at 2:30. Where, I don't know, I've never been there and lack knowledge of the venue and the city. However, Saturday at 2:30 seems to fit, isn't too early or too late, avoids lunch crowds hopefully, and isn't on top of anything I'd like to see.
Anyone interested in fiber (of the non-dietary kind!) is more than welcome! (This also includes steel for the steel knitter!)
I am trying to condense on Ravelry here in the Remnants forum so all the people in the other forums talking about it meet in the same place (though the Boston Yarn Party one would also be reasonable since it's in Boston.)
The problem with sending all those people to this forum is they might not want to sign up for it, like not everyone here who knits, crochets, etc might want to join Ravelry.
I'm up for whatever though, I just want to hang with PAX attendees who also knit etc!
2.30 on Saturday is fine I guess. Musical Guests panel is then, but I guess we would have to schedule against something.
I've only been in the Hynes a couple times and am not sure how the setup would work. We may want to wait till closer to the event and then figure it out. Or we could go somewhere on Newbury St. How far are people willing to walk? (Across the street, 5 min, 10 min, etc.)
i had posted a thread on craftster a few weeks ago looking for fellow pax nerds (my handle over there is bethiej78 - feel free to PM me if any of you are members there)
i'd maybe be interested in meeting up, but i am not a fiber arts crafter. i can knit, but i stink at it (uneven tightness being my primary problem, slowness being my secondary one). will this definitely be exclusive to fiber arts?
dyaballikl - awesome jayne hat. i am in a firefly themed craft swap right now and i think my partner is making me one!

That's the thread I posted on! Yay! I'm burnsbothends there too! Let's be friends! And what, praytell, do you craft, browncoatbeth? And this isn't my game, so I'd say *looks over your crafts* bring an embroidery project? Thread and canvas etc are fiber based?
I personally don't give a flying monkey if you knit or whatnot. I just happen to and am most familiar with that community. If you think hanging with fiber oriented people with whatever craft you feel like working on I think that would be grand.

yay! hello, friend!
i could do that. i actually was thinking about embroidering CT samurai on a hoodie at some point, so that might work perfectly!!
and thanks, too, genesneaky!

Howdy all! I hadn't actually checked the Ravelry boards yet today, but my husband spammed me with this link immediately upon finding it (bless his heart).
I am definitely up for a meetup. I think it'd be neat, and I'd love to meet my fellow Ravelers. Also...that is a damned fine Jayne Hat and I want to see it in action!
Are we thinking 2:30 on Saturday for sure? I don't have the schedule in front of me so I'm not sure what all that's against, but tentatively this is penciled in.
Ok PAX East knitting (crochet etc.) attendees! There has been some discussion of where we should all meet and it is sounding more and more like the food court at the Pru would be a good place. Food choices (including a bakery known to have excellent cookies), movable tables and chairs, the ability to come and go, nearby, and no one will mind if I put up a little sign.
What do people think about 2.30p on Saturday the 27th at the Prudential food court?
It's not elegant, but this way people can miss as little of PAX as possible if they feel really time constrained!
(Now I better go start thinking about knitting a lanyard for my badge... wonder if I'll have time to knit a dice bag?!)
sounds good to me. helpful that it is close by to pax and come and go as you please - that way ppl can stop by whenever their schedules allow. i had 12:30-4 on saturday as time to explore the expo floor, so i'm good w/ 2:30.

The musical guest thing is one of the panels I was really looking forward to, so unless it's packed I'll probably be there knitting instead of out with y'all knitting. If I can't get in, though, I'll totally come find you.
Hooray! It'll be fun to have so many hookers... I have never really been able to figure it out personally. I find it super difficult!
Let the hookers unite! :winky:
I find it way easier than knitting, though that's probably just because I've been crocheting for way longer and I am crazy uncoordinated with my left hand. But practice makes perfect I guess!
I find knitting a lot harder than crochet, simply because the stitches are left open, and it's so easy to screw up. Crochet only has one open stitch, so unless you really try you don't drop stitches or lose your place. Messing up a stitch just means you added a bit of intrigue to the pattern, and should repeat it variously.
Yay, hookers! I'm excited. I don't know what project I'll be bringing with me yet.
Excellent! I'm going with a former Boston native, so he can help me get to the Prudential food court. I'll make a special point of stopping by at 2:30. If it's as overwhelming as it seems, then we'll definitely need the break and, ooo, twist my arm to make that break include cookies.
In the meantime, I'm actually furiously crocheting a cover for my new Nook so I can bring it with me to PAX East. Can't wait to see what folks manage! I may bring some thread to try and crochet a DS cover as well, since I already have one for the PSP. I look forward to seeing what everybody's working on!
I'll probably be in that panel too... if I can get in. It was packed the last time I went!
No laughing here! Any knitting is awesome knitting! (also if you have questions/problems I am more than happy to help!) What kind of yarn are you using? Are you on Ravelry?

Did you go to 09? We had to spend two hours in line and miss one of the PA panels in the process but we got in. The room they had him in was way too small, not very good planning by PA on that one.

I hadn't visited Ravelry before I saw this thread but I'm signed up as BlueTofu over there now.
As for the yarn I'm using Caron Simply Soft, 6 oz. on #8 needles. I'm alternating bands of garter stitch with rows of stockinette (I think that's how you spell it) to make textured stripes. This is the first knitting project I've done but I think I'm hooked. Frustrating at times but a lot of fun.
Well we're doing the SE++ group photo Sat at 3-ish at the entrance to the mall, but if I remember correctly the food court is right there too so I should be there before and maybe after!
I too just signed up on Ravelry, I'm TheUsagi. This week's project is learning to knit in a round and how to do different kinds of increases/decreases because I'd like to start a hat soon.
Oh boy, more geeky knitters/hookers!!! Yes, I am one too. I'll be unable to join you all since I'm working with the Magic card game all weekend, but I hope you all have a great time!!! It's SO nice to know I'm not the only, (as DH puts it) "geeky knitter" in this world. I'm on rav too, BTW.
I award you all +1 internets for making me investigate this thread. I've dabbled off and on over the years since my mother is a hardcore craftie, I remember falling asleep as a tyke to the sound of her needles clacking. Keep up the craftiness and remember to share you work with the world! Course now I get to tell my mum that I might have met some of her Ravelry buddies at MY show!

Not sure if anyone is interested, but there are two yarn/knitting shops near the Hines. They're both on Newbury St:
NewBury Yarns - Lots of yarn, friendly staff. They currently have three good sized racks of yarn on sale for 20% off. Knit & Needlepoint - Small place, half the store is devoted to needlepoint patterns. They did have some pretty hand-dyed stuff, though.

It does not get any more hardcore when it comes to knitting.

And super thank you for the Ravelry suggestion, I'd never heard of it and am definitely joining
Watch out with the Ravelry! It quickly became a huge internet obsession of mine. A great procrastination outlet!
I have a feeling between that and PA my procrastination quota will be well-filled!
You won't be the only crafty hooker there! I'll be crocheting as well!
Let the hookers unite! :winky:

I'll stop by as soon as the PA Make A Strip panel lets out, which should be just before 2:30.

Oh boy! Only 1.5 more days till it all starts, and 2.5 more days till knitting with people!
If you see a moderately tall Asian man that answers to Sam say hi to him. His lady is also a knitter (and he is a Magic player).
