just before 8:30pm tonight (saturday) i'm going to switch off the music and the telly and take a few slices of cold pizza out of the fridge, a bottle of red from the rack and a couple of glasses. we'll turn out the lights (maybe even hit the circuit breakers to be sure) and head down to a pier on the harbour - where we'll watch the lit city become an unlit one
earth hour is a good thing. not because it practically makes any difference to our consumption of energy but because it makes us think about it; even briefly, we think about it. we're at a time where we're being forced to change a bit, and i while don't have any illusion that it's out of selfless generosity, or some cosmic love, the truth is resources just aren't as bountiful as they seemed to be in the past. and as developed societies, who grew on excess and became rich and smart by using what was there with little knowledge of the consequences, we're really the only ones who can afford to make this sort of sacrifice at all. and we can. don't tell me you can't live without light for an hour. for that hour of light translates to, like, a million bowls of rice in starving africa.
true story
really it's just a damned good excuse to get out of the house and get drunk, or to spend some time discussing your own philosophies with friends or a loved one; or to secretly make amends for that time you used five paper towels to dry your hands and
then the blower; to see something in the world you'll rarely see; a skyline of quiet, unlit buildings.
participate in earth hour or i hate you

Hippie.
What spring does with the cherry trees.
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
I don't need any more sights of quiet unlit buildings.
that works, right
enjoy being cold and alone in your preserved artificial cold flouresence
i'm going to be warm in my organic natural recycled moonlight
I'm going out that night anyway so it's cool.
Satans..... hints.....
we're supposed to what? read by candlelight?
i was not aware this was 1503
okay who wants to celebrate by burning some witches
just turn off the lights. it's a symbolic gesture
Have you thought of the medical implications here?
this is something i would do if i, like, lived in a real city near other young adults who would have even a chance of being aware/caring about this
then it would be kinda fun
i'm gonna be in a hotel anyway but w/e
Enjoy your moonburn.
What spring does with the cherry trees.
well i guess you'll have to weigh up the medical implications of that against the medical implications of me hating you
i suppose the latter could have some kind of subliminal effect
Drinking by candlelight is pretty sweet.
I feel like I'm in olden times!
It's me
it's so pretty that i've arranged my empty beer bottles, tomato tins and unpaid bills in there perfectly and i'm dreading the moment when it fills up and i have to take it out
but my main claim to recycling fame is to not buy bottled water
nobody robs people in rural areas
because everyone owns at least two guns
