Buying/gifting games on Xbox Live

So, I'm thinking of buying my dad the two monkey island remakes and maybe the tales of monkey island too for the 360.

When I showed him the MI remake on my HTPC he was really interested, so I've had the idea of getting them in June when his birthday comes around. (he used to play all the adventure games on the Amiga back in the 90's)

However, he doesn't have an internet connection nor does he have a pc. He's a bit of a tech neophyte. I was thinking of maybe creating an xbox live account for him, buying some points on my account and gifting those points, bringing his 360 round to my house and then buying the games and downloading them to his 360.

Now, i've never bought any points/games from xbox live before (only from PSN and Steam), once the games are bought and downloaded is he going to have any drm issues because of the fact that his 360 after the games are downloaded won't be connected up to the net again?

Last thing I want is to buy these games for his 360 then a month down the line the 360 demanding he re-authenticate (hence not being able to start the games) or something stupid because he hasn't connected it up to the net.

Has anyone here ever bought a game from XBL and been disconnected from the net for a very long prolonged period of time?

I wish they'd release the two special editions of Monkey Island on a dvd for the 360, that'd make it so much bloody easier to buy as a birthday present.

Downloadable contnet is tied to both the gamertag and the console ID that it is first downloaded to. If you're signed into your gamertag on the machine you originally downloaded the content on, you can play DLC offline without any problems.

Amazon has started selling redeemable codes for many XBox Live Arcade titles, and it just so happens that The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition is among them.

You can drop the $10.00 to get the code, and then give him the code - he can put the code in while signed into his gamertag on his 360 (while connected to Live, obviously), and once it'd done downloading, he will be able to play it with his gamertag on his machine even if he is offline.

Good stuff, I was worried about buying SOMI:SE on his 360 at my house and then when he takes it back to his house and doesn't have it connected up to live/the internet for a prolonged period of time it going apeshit about not being able to check whether he has a license for it or some other shit that all drm loves to do.

Hopefully the MI2 remake comes out just before June so I can buy him both at the same time.

If he's never gone online with whatever he's named his gamertag profile on his 360, then he will have to go through the registration process for Live on his console. Not a big deal, but be aware.

That won't be an issue if you just take his console, bring it to your house, create the gamertag for him, and then download the games.

You'll never have a problem after that.
