Its purpose is twofold. First, a word from my sister-in-law.
Dear friends,

For the past year I have been working on a graduate thesis project about the digital world’s impact on the newspaper. The culmination/presentation of this project is a funeral for the newspaper, complete with priest, flowers, eulogies, manic sobbing (hopefully), the whole bit.

The goal is basically to really drive home the idea that the digital age is what killed the paper (this is all extremely tongue in cheek). Therefore, the eulogies are going to be delivered in front of a screen where a liveblog of the event will be shown simultaneously.

This is where you come in. I need as many people as possible to make comments on the liveblog that will show up in real time. The more offensive and inflammatory, the better. Feel free to literally post whatever you want – links to other pages, heated diatribes, angry posts directed at previous commenters, whatever makes you happy. The liveblog can be found at http://newspaperfuneral.tumblr.com, or if you’re not near a computer, you can text or email your comments to 158bloicet@tumblr.com. Go nuts. Seriously. If you need guidance on writing the most godawful comments of all time, please see YouTube.com.

Even if you only post one comment, it will be seriously so awesome of you. And definitely forward this to friends. The more the merrier.

Thank you in advance for your help. You’re the best.

So, if you are so inclined, head over to the Tumblr thingy and do what you do best. Remember that for the sake of the project, you are to act as if Newspaper was an actual guy and is actually dead. Beyond that, be as sincere or sarcastic as you like. The first blog post is up, but more should be forthcoming as the event unfolds.

NOTE: THIS EVENT BEGINS AT 12:30PM EST BUT YOU CAN START POSTING NOW.

NOTE 2: YOU DON'T NEED TO HAVE A TUMBLR ACCOUNT TO PARTICIPATE.

Meanwhile, back here in the Wubble Woo, continue and expand the discussion. Is newspaper really dead, and did the internet kill it? Or was it television? Or Twitter? Or blogs? All of the above? Or is newspaper never really going to die as long as people want to read news? How will the newspaper evolve? What do e-readers have to say about it? WHY AM I ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS?
