1st round with no Trojans, no Hurricanes, no Buckeyes, and barely 1 Seminole. Feels weird.

I don't think so. This isn't exactly blood-pumping stuff. I think it's good to take some breaks. Lets fans read up on the best available, and lets the broadcast teams recharge. Plus it'll be interesting to read all the speculation and rumors going around tomorrow afternoon.

The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

So the local (Billings MT) sports radio show guy likes to call him Josh MisHandles, but likes the idea of taking Tebow in the 1st round ("he's a winner... just a hard worker, leader blah blaH"). I am curious how he feels about this pick overall.

Also, I like SF's draft so far. The lack of a sexy pick (and I think I like Bulaga more than I like AT) makes it a touch depressing, but two tanks on the line is an exciting addition. Now I hope they trade up in rd two for some of the quality left.

At first, I was pretty puzzled by the pick, but I thought the same thing as well as figuring the powers that be had decided to make Malcolm Jenkins a safety. The Saints still need linebacker and d-line depth.

    2004: 196 out of 265 for 2621 yards and 8.9 YPA.

Which means that Roethlisberger averaged only 17.6 attempts and 174.7 yards a game. Among the other AFC division leaders, all you need to know is that Brady, Manning and Brees all had between 400-500 pass attempts.

Just shorten the time between picks. That way things actually happen, without it taking 12 hours. This is why the NBA's draft format is better than the NFL's. These teams have been scouting for months, they spend more time ranking prospects on their spreadsheets than people with OCD spend ranking movies on flickchart, they don't need 10 minutes to make a pick.

They did. It used to be 15 minutes in the first, then went to 10, which is totally reasonable after the first 3-4 picks. After that its not evaluating talent, its evaluating whats on the board, who is likely to take whom and trying to get trades done. 10 minutes in the first, 7.5 in the second, 6 in the third, 5 after seems totally reasonable.

I mean the reason they moved it to prime time was because people would watch it all weekend. The length of time was annoying but not fatally so

Josh McDaniels is the Arizona Cardinals Executive of the Year for his Tebow-gasm because from what I heard the Ravens were really high on Williams. Seriously, this guy at top of my wishlist, but I never thought he'd that far, even if he did I thought we'd have to drop one of the third rounders to get him. Not having to use any extra picks is fucking awesome.

That's the meme but they've only traded out of the first once. They trade down and stockpile picks and then people see all those picks and get pissed when they don't use them all, which allows them to have more picks in the future. Last year they had 3 of the top 42 picks/4 of 58, this year, 3 of the top 47/4 of the top 53, year before they had 2 first rounders but one was taken away, year before that they didn't have many picks after the first because they traded for Welker and Moss, etc.

People have been very negative on the Pats drafting but
    *checks current roster*
They've drafted or picked up as undrafted FA
    -Top 2 QB
    -3 of 5 RB
-Definitely 1 WR, likely a second (Brandon Tate) + traded those stockpiled picks for Welker and Moss
-The entire starting OL was either drafted or undrafted free agent the Pats discovered plus the top backup tackle (and some of interior OL backups but its more unsettled there)
-Starting DL plus Green and Seymour who left in the last year
    -almost the entire LB corp
-2 of 3 top safeties, all but 2 CB (who is starter and who is backup is really undefined here with the amount of nickle and switching that went on)
    -the kicker
Its not like it hasn't been working. But its been six years since they won it all so complaints are increasing.

10 is still too much. 15 was brutal, though - 4 picks per hour? I doubt the NFL cares since ratings were up, though how imperssive a 26% increase is while moving from Saturday morning to Thursday night is arguable. Eh, it's not all that crucial anyways as the NFL draft isn't really something I watch, but more of something I check in on every 15 minutes.

One thing I wouldn't mind is hearing from the actual players being drafted if they're going to take 10 minutes between picks, instead of hearing Kiper and friends drone on or having to watch Ed Werder's pedostache all night. With the NBA, as soon as the kids do their on-stage photo op they do a quick interview. The only player I remember hearing anything from last night was Tebow, who ESPN was treating as if he were some total unknown and not the most famous player in college the last 2 years. Were there interviews with Bradford, Suh, and McCoy?

I hate the player interviews. I ended up watching ESPN's coverage because they were showing game film for almost every pick. It's too bad that ESPN's main team was so dysfunctional.

Today's gonna be an interesting day for the Vikings. They've got some needs, but none of the best available fill any of those needs. One name I'm reading a good bit is Chris Cook, but it's hard to get excited for a corner that's been suspended twice for academic violations and isn't that physical of a player.

I think my ideal would be for the Vikings to either get Clausen at 34, or trade back a few spots and get Jon Asamoah.

And now we're done for the day after only 3.5 hours. How lame.

I think this is great. There's not many things worth doing for more than four hours at a time.

The NFL draft is one of them

I don't think so. This isn't exactly blood-pumping stuff. I think it's good to take some breaks. Lets fans read up on the best available, and lets the broadcast teams recharge. Plus it'll be interesting to read all the speculation and rumors going around tomorrow afternoon.

You do remember that the draft wasn't originally intended for fan consumption, right? I'll be happy with whatever method gets my team the best players. If it takes 12 hours, it takes 12 hours. I'll trade boredom now for two, three extra wins in the fall.

Also remember, the Vikings had 15 minutes and ran out of time. This isn't an autodraft. This isn't a fantasy draft. You can't just tell someone 'hurry up, I've got a date tonight'. The guy you wanted gets taken and messes up your draft board, it's not an easy thing to say 'okay, then we take this other guy, boom, get the name out'. Especially when you've got your fanbase watching and ready to call for your head if you pick the wrong guy.

I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.

I hate the player interviews. I ended up watching ESPN's coverage because they were showing game film for almost every pick. It's too bad that ESPN's main team was so dysfunctional.

I go back and forth because of this. I don't mind Kiper, but everyone else on ESPN is pretty terribad. So if Kiper is talking or for clips I'll jump to ESPN and otherwise I'll be on NFLN

The team wasn't dysfunctional they were all fucking mad. Did you see Steve Young? If he wasn't drunk he was a damn good actor. He was slurring his words and just spouting nonsense and it got to everyone lol. I would switch to ESPN just to see how bad it got.

The best part was when the Rams were on the clock before they sent in the pick, and the ESPN guys were like, why can't they just do it already, they know who it is, and Young theorized that it was a scheme to get everyone to pay attention to the Rams, and look it's working because we're talking about them, aren't we? And then like 10 seconds of silence from the whole crew before they cut to something else. I laughed so hard I was gasping for air.
