I'm not sure how old you are - guessing by your posts, early-to-mid 20's seems right. If so, I would say our generation's Bill Watterson is, well, Bill Watterson.

I get what you're saying though. I'm 25 so Calvin and Hobbes ended shortly before I turned 10. I can remember reading it in newspapers, but anyone a five years younger than me probably wouldn't. Hence why I made the disclaimer about your age, 'cause if you were actually 18 or something then I'd be totally off-base.

I'm 20, so I mostly know C&H through the books, though I think I caught a little bit when I was quite young.

Also I think to some extent I meant as far as the generations of the artists are concerned, but technically I suppose Gabe is Gen X so that doesn't make much sense either.

Blond kid is all "DON'T DRAW HIS ATTENTION, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!"

Love the mask, it reminds me of that one Celtic god.

    yeah

artistically (well, the drawing side of it... you get what I mean) maybe he comes close, but watterson wrote all of C&H by himself. Gabe's art has changed and progressed throughout his career more than Watterson's, I guess.

Well he started from a lower point

Watterson's art did evolve tremendously from his early stuff though

Yeah, but it was pretty much all improving on the same style. Gabe's has been kind of all over the place, not in a bad way though.

That brown haired kid will get likely fucked up before all's said and done.

And I personally like Gabe's art style a lot better than Watterson's, but they're at about the same level in my mind.

I never really got it either. I mean, the art's good, and there's no real problem with the story, but I just can't see it from an angle that conveys the impressions of both "fantastically wonderful" and "wonderfully fantastic".

I appreciate them as a departure from the norm but yeah, none of the side things really speak to me.

Except Jim but that is mostly because the humor is basically the humor they always do.
