success for me doesn't include having a job so meaningless and soul crushing that i make myself feel better by making an extensive chart of where my fellow high schoolers ended up, but hey

I don't agree at all. Let's just look at finding a girlfriend. I didn't date until I was out of university. That's a bit late in the game.

If somebody sat me down and said, "Women like men with jobs, stop wearing that grunge crap, scent is surprisingly important to women so start wearing a tasteful quantity of cologne, here are the signs that a woman is interested in you, etc" I'd be banging all kinds of chicks. Instead, I did it by trial and error and...well, it took ages to figure out.
There are classes that teach all those things
    It's called Life Skills
It's for remedial kids too dumb to figure those things out on their own and who are probably getting menial labor jobs out of high school

I'm aware that there's some sort of classes like that in some high schools, but they have the stigma that you suggest. And they probably don't teach the sort of things I'm thinking of. I assume they teach ironing and...well, actually learning to iron wouldn't be a bad thing to learn. I just put a towel on the floor and run an iron across the front of the shirt. But there's probably a much better way to do it. Using starch, for example. I don't even know what starch does. Wish I learned about it in high school.
typing is a thing you just learn by doing it a bunch

but coincidentally many high schools already teach that

I know it's taught in high schools. It's not something you "just learn". I took loads of typing classes and it's the best thing I did in high school. It's actually comes in handy every day whether at work or posting on your finer message boards in one's leisure time.

yeah but you're like thirty goddam years old

everyone younger than you has picked up typing by, you know, typing

and it is not high school's fault for not teaching you how to talk to women

Ironically, a father would be the most likely person to say something like "stop wearing that grunge crap."

I wonder how many teenagers listen to sage advice like that.

I never understood the whole "When I graduate I have to move out of my home town" mentality. You know, because some of us grew up in major cities.

If I moved away when I graduated I would have to go to the boonies.

Or do I have to go to a different major metropolitan area? Is the one where I spent the most time inherently bad because of it's familiarity? Cause I gotta tell ya, things don't really change that much no matter where you are.

I've lived in Miami, Reno, Atlanta, Washington D.C, and crap load of little town's in-between. And this was all before I was 18. And for the most part, people are generally the exact same.

My actual home town is Hilton Head Island SC, but I haven't lived there since a few months after I was born

The place where I lived the longest was Macon GA, and I wouldn't be opposed to living there again some day

The place where my family currently lives is Rutherfordton NC, but fuck going back there, and even they're probably gonna move back to Macon soon

But I go to school in Columbia SC (well, not after Saturday I won't) and I really could see myself settling in here for a while

seriously the idea that I have to run away from the town that has the house I grew up in and the graveyard that holds my family's bones or "common knowledge" will brand me a loser is offensive

my father and I cleared the land we built our house on with our bare hands over the course of my entire childhood. ten acres of scrub oak and sand felled, dragged and burned

I watched that house being raised up and knew that one day after my parents died my sister or I would move into that house and I know that it'll be in my family for as long as we can hold onto it

"Unsuccessful"? Go fuck yourself. The day I'd stalk people on the internet I haven't seen in a dozen years just to prove I "beat" them is the day I hang myself
