something about fat cop doesn't sit right with me- I think it has something to do with the arms
also middle cop's head looks a little too small
    everything else is cool though

I feel like you are forcing the feet to be close together where some of the poses might call for them to be further apart, Or planting the feet where the pose might call for it to be bent a bit. The left most guy on the sheet of more refined guys, and the right most guy at the bottom of the gestures are sticking out to me as an odd relationship of foot to leg position.

Hmm, doodling in meetings today. Did poses trying to look at proportions since that was mentioned about my last thing. Then looked it up on my art and anotomy references. I'm having trouble seeing where my proportions are off. Unless people were talking about how she basically had no internal organs. haha. Can anyone see what I'm missing here?

    doodley.jpg

And bob isn't meant to be art.. he's more like a silly 2 minute doodle.

    Some general body proportions:
The body as a whole is 7-7.5 head lengths tall.
The base of the crotch is located roughly halfway between the top of the head and the bottom of the feet.
The size of the rib cage is roughly 1.5 times the size of the head.
The nipples are located one head length down from the bottom of the chin.
The distance between the top of the head and the pit of the neck (right in between your collarbones), is the generally the same as the distance between the pit of the neck and the bellybutton.

Now what you're probably thinking right now, is, 'right on! makes sense, I'll just go do that and things will be hunky dory", but you're not really going to get a feel for how these proportions function without drawing from models or photographs and observing how and when they apply, in an actual figure that has perspective and foreshortening.

For example, I knew a guy in a class that was working on a drawing where he'd erased the head about 10 times because he kept making it too small, and he was at his wit's end because he couldn't figure out what was going wrong. What he was doing was relying on the 7 heads tall proportion, without taking into consideration that the model was kneeling, making the distance on the page from the top of the head to the bottom of the figure closer to 4-5 head lengths tall.

This sounds like an obvious, dumb mistake, but that's the sort of thing that happens when you don't get yourself in the habit of measuring out things from observation yourself- whipping out your forefinger and thumb and measuring distances and comparing them to other distances, using the side of your pencil to measure the angle from one landmark to another, in order to get accurate, proportionate-looking drawings. In time this becomes natural as a result of developing an eye from proportions, but it does take a lot of time and effort in being meticulous in order to develop that eye.

no, it's not the length- I'm no stranger to weird proportions
maybe it's because they're not hairy
the dude looks really scruffy, but his forearms are just bare
I dunno, might just be me

Ken, I'm getting the feeling that all of the have legs that are a little too short. You've put all of their knees really, really low, with not much room for the lower have of the leg. Running with what Tam's saying, it also looks like the upper arms are too short.

obilex, you may want to concentrate or focus or direct the magic coming out of that wand a little bit more. i mean the stuff immediately coming out of the tip. it currently looks like a feather duster

The doodle thread is getting more gay by the day.

    I approve.

Also I love those cops Ken, but I agree something feels off. Like, the upper arms are too short or something. But I get the sense I'm supposed to feel unease when I'm looking at these characters, so it works for me.

After a huge drought of nothingness, I've started doodling some more lately, which reminded me that I really really suck at colouring and depth.

I think I tend to almost cell-shade my stuff, which I'm just not that crazy about. What do you guys think?

I like your characters Ken. They have a lot of personality in the designs.

    i kinda read them as

1st guy = Tough, badass cop
2nd guy = Conservative young bloke
3rd guy = the dumbass guy

The ink style to them which looks really good. gives the shapes a lot of life.

painting been working on since thursday arvo.
was originally a digital paint/pencil sketch comp, but as ive been really focused on getting my painting skills bettter i'm doing this tradition oils on masonite. Getting there slowly. Dodgy camera doesnt do the colours justice but you get the idea.

*gotta fix up that lighting under her body

WIP, just trying to get better at lighting/anatomy/texure and whatnot.

    anatomyskullcolourssmal.jpg

Not really sure where to go with this, there's some lighting and anatomical issues, but I can't convince myself that it looks too bad to even finish working on. Also, painting this has made me realise I never really did paint lips, eyebrows or ears before, and I feel clueless :/

EDIT: changed because of weird-ass line issues
