My golden retriever is going into surgery today to get a sarcoma (cancerous tumor) removed from her elbow. If you good folk could say a prayer, light a candle, kill a goat, or whatever positive thought process you wish to take--I'd appreciate it.
Hope everything goes well. When my dog was a pup he had the same thing, on his chest though, and ended up fine, so hopefully you have a similar experience, and your golden comes home happy and healthy.
I work as a vet tech and we see interesting shit all the time.
Like just the other day we got a dog with it eye popped out of its socket. Poor thing didn't seem to mind all that much. All just sitting there wagging its tail and licking the dangling eye. It was mesmerizing.
Also sounds like the tumor hasn't progressed much in your dog, otherwise they would probably just removed the leg. I don't think you need to worry.

Eh, I'm trying to stay positive. My wife is pretty tore up though.
Apparently, the surgeon is removing some muscle around the tumor as well, just to make sure it hasn't spread.

I've just recently finally started brushing his teeth every day so he doesn't get the Mega Poop Breath
By some miracle I managed to turn it into a Fun Time Activity rather than a chore

My puppy, however, decided to wake my ass up at 4:30 with the biggest yowls I've ever heard come from such a small creature.

Hasn't let me down yet.
Although I've passed over a number of opportunities because they were just a little too risky and there were no little people around.
