I was under the impression that free games on the internet was like eating a dozen burritos at once, overrated and smelly, I was introduced to a few good ones by certain fellows who I hold confidence with, and realized my earlier statement was actually really wrong and dumb.
Now that I've been de-ignorantized, I gotta ask, do we have some neat free games to recommend? Maybe like, there was a previous thread of this nature somewhere? (I searched but found nothing)
Any help, because right now I need to spend my monies on food or else starve.

There are tons of good ones. I especially recommend Savage. It just recently (last year I think) went completely free, and it's some of the best fun you can have online.
Be aware this game has a time limit, after which a set of events in the story happens that forces a game over, so you'll either be playing it more than once or using a walkthrough. But the game is just so good, it's forgivable.

The time limit is huge though. Unless you leave the game on for a whole day doing nothing you don't have to worry about it.
Basically an online Beatmania. Hit notes with the keyboard (SDF / Space / JKL) and make music, and earn points to buy more songs and customize your character.
It's easy at first, but the difficulty curve(much like Beatmania) gets utterly insane later on.
It has some great music though. Best classical remixes ever composed.
The newer stuff needs to be bought, but there's plenty of songs from the getgo with the free ones. Also, William Tell = .
I never thought I could play enough of it to get tired of it for good. But somehow I did. It took a lot of playing.
Same here. ET and BF2 are the two online games I have played the most out of any other. I still remember staying up to 3 am playing Enemy Territory back in 2005 when I found a server full of custom maps, like Supply Depot, Rhine Bridge (which sucked ass until version 2), Caen, Venice, Desert Temple..

I actually was happy with the normal maps (Except... Rail Gun I think it was called).
God there was nothing better then sneaking behind enemy lines as a covert ops with Assasin, finding a firefight in a small tunnel, and taking out 4 enemies in a row in 4 knife shots
The full version of Ground Control was released for free. It is a great tactical strategy game and it is getting a pseudo sequel this year (World in Conflict).

There was a ground control 2 you know.
Its a pseudo pseudo sequel^2.
The graphics are pretty much nonexistant (simple shapes represent everything), but it's a rather fun turn-based strategy game with 100 levels. Lead your army of 4 types of survivors against over half a dozen different types of zombies!

I went from getting one rank every few games with exp save to maxing out my rank in a single game without it. That's about the time I quit, but I had a blast.
Both boss-only shmups. rRootage has 4 different modes, including a rather engaging Ikaruga-inspired one. Warning Forever features a boss who upgrades every round based on the way you fight it, so if you kill it from behind, the next one will have a few extra missile pods back there.
Ninja platformer. Hit the switches and get to the gate, avoiding all manner of lethal traps. Gets bonus points for naming the falling enemy platforms "thwumps."
You're excited for Portal this summer, right? 'Course you are. Play the game by the people making it, that got Valve to hire them. Open portals to fall on top of pillars, launch yourself across gaps, and fall down infinite pits. Short, but mindbending and great fun. EDIT: You can play it first- or third- person, don't get worried because of the shot.
I liked Seiklus even though I've never 100% it. Icy Tower is also one of my favorite games.
[sitewhore]Me and my buddies have also made a few games, including an RPG, shooter, and oldschool point-and-click. Click to download from their temporary home. [/sitewhore]
The prepackaged mod that comes with the standard installation requires that one own a copy of TA to legally play it. There is, however, an official release which uses fully free content, and there are a number of mods, both in development and released, that are also completely free to use.
Wrap an oddly-shaped block in painted string. Controls are a bit finicky, but it's an immersive experience.
My goodness that is awesome.
Him picking that soundtrack was genius. I didn't want to stop because the music drew me in so much, I just sat there wrapping things up grooving to the sounds.

Ive been playing this game the last couple days and it is unexpectedly good. But its seriously becoming a drag orbiting each planet and scanning it to find some lifeforms to trade to the trader. PLEASE tell me ill eventually get some probes or something that will make this scanning process go quicker?

The soundtrack is also in .mp3 in case you want to listen to it outside the game...

Cloud Which is the most chilled out game I've ever played. It's wondeful.
Then theres the genius that is Cave Storywhich is a bit like Metroid and again fantastic.
Also a game I'd like to recommend is Dwarf Fortress which is a bit of a roguelike and a bit of a god game, combined for awesome.
Also there is Penumbra which is a runthefuckawayfromthescarymonsterem up.

Besides for a lack of Cave Story for some odd reason there are a ton of great things in there.

Marathon.
It's made by Bungie. You may have heard of them.
I think they included Cave Story in last year's list, when they were still CGW magazine.

Not my kind of game, but massive thumbs up from the SRPG community.

It's like online magic the gathering mixed with a turn based srpg. The free decks are decent enough.

D U O by binaryzoo is a pretty fun SHUMP-like with symbolic graphics.
Duty and Beyond is an indie adventure game I really enjoyed but OTOH I like "pixelart".
