Laptop games on the go

I think it's been a while since I've seen one of these topics. I do a little bit of traveling with my laptop (a Dell XPS m1530 with a video card), and was wondering what suggestions the internet has for games that would be good for playing while in transit. They can either be "casual" or "hardcore", the main requirements are:

Not horrific to play with a trackpad (so no HC Diablo 2)
Still playable when surrounded by distractions (so no HC Diablo 2)
Preferably something turn based or at least slow paced (so no HC Diablo 2)

The games that I've enjoyed on a laptop in the past are Civ4 and Freecell, so I'm open to more suggestions. :P I'm mainly into RPGs and strategy games, but I'll play anything that's quality. Any ideas?

Oh yea I played the heck out of PvZ on my desktop when it was released. I couldn't imagine playing that past the first few levels with a trackpad though. I also played the bejeesus out of SMAC back in the day; it might be worth another install...

Silent Storm is a wonderful game to turn on and play occasionally while doing other things, especially when the computer's turn takes 5+ minutes.

How about some Battle for Wesnoth?
    wesnoth1.8-2.jpg

It's turn-based, it's strategy, it has low requirements, and best of all it's free. ;)

I think Puzzle kingdoms is still $1 on Steam. Think bejeweled but with rpg elements.

I like playing roguelikes on a laptop- you have to remap to compensate for the lack of a numpad, but it works.

There's a whole thread full of 'em, but I like the Angband family the best.

Psh, once you start playing HC Diablo 2 you can never go back. I played a bunch of HOMAM back in the day, which was sweet. I'll have to look into Puzzle Kingdoms; I mostly liked Puzzle Quest, and I can't believe it's just a dollar (although there are almost no reviews around for it).

TellTale games (Sam & Max, Monkey Island)
Tropico 3 (Kinda Sim City-ish, but more tropical and hilarious.)

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, great stuff, small download, my first roguelike (Dwarf Fortress doesn't count), and would probably run on a toaster.

This may see strange but Scarface: The World is Yours worked out pretty good on my old laptop. It was a console port but that let it trackpad handy.

If you like Bejeweled and RPGs Puzzle Quest is pretty great. And the trackpad won't be a problem since the only timed thing in the game is the completely optional leveling-up of mounts.

Defense Grid should be decent on a track pad, as well.

Any number of old point and clicks are good. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is a personal favorite.

    This is true,

And also an extrememly underrated game. It is absoloutely fantastic and really sounds like it could be what you're looking for.

    Seriously.

    Silent storm.

If ... no, WHEN you do give this a try, make sure you turn off the voices.

in the Heroes of Might and Magic theme, they also have remade King's Bounty and King's Bounty: Armored Princess.
Both cheap at steam too, and fairly resource light.

It's basically Homm but more directed and quest oriented instead of endless push/reinforce, but still holds the same combat styles/spells/classes.

Kings bounty is good, but it may not run that well on a laptop

I always put "Might and Magic World of Xeen" on whatever laptop I'm travelling with. Never gets boring for some reason, and easy to put down and pick back up three months down the road.

I played the first one to death, not tried the sequel yet but it is headed to Steam soon although you can just buy direct.

The Telltale Games are a good call if you like adventure games. The episodes are short enough that they're easy to pick back up if you have to put them down for a couple of days. No really long puzzles. Sam and Max really started to find its way in the second season, but the first isn't bad either.

Tales of Monkey Island has been good since day one, I reckon.

Obligatory mention of Jagged Alliance 2, which is available from GoG. Easily played with a pad, but it may be a little involving. It's my travel game of choice.

If you're interested in grand strategy games, worth checking out Paradox Interactive. Laptop friendly and mostly excellent, particularly Hearts of Iron and Europa Universalis. Very in-depth though.

And is Civilization too obvious to mention?
