I like gangs of new york quite a bit despite it's many problems

but man, bill the butchers real life rival john morrisey is a fucking world more interesting than amsterdamn

Yeah, it's a movie with some really great parts. Seriously top notch stuff. But it comes together fairly poorly, and loses it completely in the last bit.

I don't know the actual history of it, which is something I should probably change.

this guy lived a fucking life

Wow. Yeah, he really could have made a better movie out of this material, that's for sure.

Still liked most of it though. That one monologue is amazing.

And the line about teaching him English with his knife.

yes, but it's never a bad thing to talk about dr. strangelove. That movie is in my top 5 movies of all time.

Fun fact, instead of the total annihilation of the known world, the movie was supposed to end with the world's largest pie fight ever caught on film, though the scene was cut due to dangerous levels of fun

Well the scene was a one take deal and everyone needed to be serious in keeping with the film

but they weren't because everyone was having a gigantic fucking pie fight and it was super fun

    So, no pie fight scene

Fifth Element kicks ass. It's one of those movies that I always end up finishing if I happen to stumble upon it on one of the premium channels.

    Jean-Baptiste. Emanuel. Zorg.

Edit: I love Burn After Reading too - I think it got a bad rap when it was first released. I think (hope) it will gain in popularity after a few more years like Lebowski.

What do you guys think of Barton Fink? Just caught it last month, and I thought it was genius.

I know he's only made 3 movies so far, one of which hasn't been released yet, but I'm going to throw Edgar Wright up on here. There's a dude who knows how to splice together pieces of celluloid in an awesome fashion.

He's like Tarantino without the pretension. And better.

    I like Tarantino too.

Also giving props to Dr. Strangelove. Before watching it I thought the humor might be too dated for me, but everything about it holds up so well!

Andrei Tarkovsky Every science fiction fan needs to see Solaris.

everything you say is correct except this

solaris is awful, especially when you compare it to the book

I'm pretty sure no one who recommends seeing Solaris has actually seen Solaris

probably read the wiki page after hearing someone else who also had not seen Solaris gush about it on their blog and then watched a few youtube clips, and now relies on the fact that no one else has actually seen Solaris and thus can't call them on it

I have, and it is a little known fact that Solaris was actually created as a punishment device for Russian political prisoners

how about that scene with the midget, you ass sniffing pretentious fuckwits? Fucking masterpiece cinema right there. Fuck you.
Okay, some of it is good. But Jesus christ, that movie drags on like an Irish funeral.
