I was kinda underwhelmed by Burn After Reading. I mostly quit enjoying it after
    Brad Pitt died.

I laugh every time Brad Pitt tries to do his serious squint when he's in the car with Malkovich.

    "You think it's a Schwinn!"

Also JK Simmons is a treasure in that movie.

*Guy wandering around a riverbank for 10 minutes*

*15 minutes literally following a dude's entire commute home*

*Half naked midget jumps out of scientist's room*

*pan and scan of a painting for 10 minutes*

It's me, I'm the most important piece of science fiction cinema ever recommended to you by some twat who jerks off in a mirror.

The last scene of Burn After Reading is the best part, and Simmons sums up my reaction to the movie as a whole.

no, because it was completely unexplained and didn't fit with the tone of a "serious art movie huff puff" at all. Just, scientist talking to the protagonist, suddenly a half naked little person runs out like they've just been having sex, scientist shoos him back inside, scene continues

    yep

I really wish Ridley Scott would go back to making sci-fi movies, it's what he's best at

Someone might already have said it, but he's currently working on a film adaptation of Joe Haldeman's The Forever War. If you're not familiar with the book, it's a sci-fi novel about a thousand year long war with some aliens; it's an allegory of the Vietnam War. Allegorical sci-fi is kind of right up Scott's alley, so I'm excited about it. Tentatively.

Better? I dunno. That's pretty subjective.

    More complete? Absolutely.

Still, debating over which of those two films is better is a bit like arguing over varieties of deep-fried cheese.

Yes. It really, really could. I haven't heard much about it lately, I'm not sure it's even been green-lit. It's definitely no further along than pre-production, so I wouldn't expect to see it for another few years at best.

Well, like I said, Alien is definitely more complete. I think I like Blade Runner more because it asks some pretty interesting questions about the human condition. Also, Rutger Hauer was great.

I get the impression that somewhere, some producer is describing this film as "epic, dark and gritty".
