    I'm getting super jumpy.

This thing hasn't went to "delivered" yet and we usually get things in the morning do to our proximity to the UPS facility (right up the street.)

I've been so out of the loop with you, man. I thought you had a job (a shit one at Target, yeah?).

How are ya' gonna manage 16 credits plus a job? ouch!

I did have a job at Target. Then I got one at Transcontinental. I couldn't stand working there though (I liked the work, but did not fit with the people there at all), so I left when I had a chance to go back to the Mercury News. But then I decided I needed to go back to school, so I quit that job in favor of that. Now I'm like, shit, I should be earning money instead of just spending Rachel's money.

And I'm really just hoping for a part-time job to help pay the bills. You know, something that's like 20-25 hours a week, ideally working weekends but since my school this quarter is mostly night classes I'll be available in the daytime too.

Mine is clocked at 2.3, so yeah, yours is better. But whatevs, it still works way better than my other one.

Oh no mori I'm sure it does a good job.

I just am not really used to doing a good job with my computer builds.

My first computers at the turn of the millennium were old ones from the mid 90s.

I'm just amazed at how quickly I have picked this stuff up.

Will this be your first quarter back in school? Are you doin' community college first or are you at uni?

Cause, seriously, do everything you can to avoid working while going to university (community college is a joke). It's hard!

I'm at community college. I can't afford university or state college and honestly I just want to get my AA and leave, I really don't like school but I feel like I should at least get some kind of degree.

Granted, I am going to be a stay-at-home dad when Rach and I have kids, but I'm hoping to have some part-time work even then so I can stay in the workforce.

Philosophy (Critical Thinking), Math (Beginning Algebra), Introduction to Health Technologies, Beginning Medical Terminology, and two Biology classes (the Bio classes actually run into each other, each of them is half a quarter long).

Well, the quarter system means classes are worth less. Philosophy is 4 credits, Math is 5, and the other classes are worth far less. Introduction To Health Technologies is just 1 credit, Beginning Medical Terminology is 2, and the Bio classes are 1.5 credits each.

Downloads seem to be a lot slower on the Air than on the iMac, even though I have them in the same room and we have ridiculous wifi signal strength in our house. Does the processing power of a computer affect download speed? I always assumed bandwidth and wifi strength were the only real limiting factors.

Processor speed shouldn't be a factor at all.

Hmm, I didn't think of that, it makes sense though.

EDIT: Bleeding heck this thing is taking an hour per gig. Granted it's pretty unusual for me to pull down something that size (the Xcode developer package, which by the way isn't included on the reinstall drive with the Airs like it is on the reinstall CDs of other Macs), but still. I'm going to have a look around and see if this is common for the 11-inch Airs.

If you're interested in the medical field... I highly suggest EMS. It is definitely not boring, and you will see new people every day... plus you wipe up poop maybe three to four times less than you would as a MA.

Just sayin... try it out :) A degree in Paramedicine will get you more opportunities than an MA degree. And it takes the same amount of time :D

Never had a Mac but it's got to be software or configuration. Perhaps your router is configured in a way where it's giving preferential treatment to one computer over another instead of distributing bandwidth evenly.

Also, check to see if the faster laptop is uploading anything. If one computer is hogging all the upload bandwidth it can bog down everything.

It's not related to processor speed and I highly doubt it's related to wireless hardware either beyond configuration.

i have a question, a friend of mine just gave me his ddr3 ram and i'm using ddr2 currently in my computer.

Can I just switch them out if the pins match (i think they are both 240 pin), I also believe my mobo supports ddr3

e - is there even a benefit to switching?

if the mobo supports ddr3, go with it. It could very easily double the speed of your previous ram, and consume less power to boot.

I don't know how old the rest of your parts are, but faster ram should make just about any system run snappier.

Even though they both are 240 pin they won't work in the same slots.

If the board supports DDR2 and DDR3 then it will have separate slots for the two types.

Knowing the board model would enable you or us to look up if it has those slots.

Also the performance boost will be worth it considering it is a free upgrade.

    Now I'm not so sure...

I got free tickets to see an advance screening of Tron Legacy, so we did that. The only Chrome laptop that came to this zip is listed as being delivered, but it wasn't signed for or given in person - the UPS site says it was left at the front door. I'm not in the best neighborhood, so maybe it got stolen? I really think this one was supposed to be mine, the dates matched up and I don't think most people in my area even know about this thing.

Is there a way to check the actual address it went to? Would UPS tell me if I call and give them my address so they can give a simple yes/no whether it was supposed to go to me?
