    espns team of the tournament is a bit weird

    Nelsen is a pretty good pick, in all truth. but I dont know about some of them.

    Was Lahm really all that impressive? I think Ramos had a way better tournament than he did.

    Villar as a GK is strange too. I think it was more that he had 10 players right in front of him every game.

    Maxi Pereira was decent, but again, not sure he should be in it. Xabi Alonso as well. Spain are arguably underrepresented, but he didn't have that great a tournament in my eyes. Iniesta not on that list is really harsh. I guess the argument is that they already have a lot of "attacking midfielders" but winning goal in the final should get him on that alone, even if you discount his other contributions.

    I think Lahm was more important to Germany than Sergio Ramos was to Spain; Ramos was better going forward, but Lahm tracked back and made some critical saves as well as marshaling the defense and was much better at putting himself in key defensive positions. Plus, you know, captains armband of a fairly successful team. But both players were standout, I think.

    I have no perspective on Nelson, on account of to much emotional investment, but I picked Lahm over Ramos in my best XI.

    And Villar made more PK saves than any other keeper, which might have come into play.

    It is hilarious to me that the Dutch are slamming the ref and saying "he was against us" when he somehow managed to resist sending one of their players off until the 115th minute.

    There were multiple times where he could have done it earlier and it would have been deserved.

    It's so great working in a tapas restaurant during the world cup. Especially when it's Spain in the finals. Especially when suddenly all these Spaniards come out of the fucking woodwork who have never once come to our place before, pack the bar and act like arrogant assholes. Better yet when they stick around 3 and 4 hours after the game still singing like a pack of faggots. We asked them quiet down since not everyone was here to celebrate the world cup. "But we're spainards and we won!" And the direct response from the owner, "Yes, I am happy we did, but this is still America and no one gives a fuck about futbol now please leave". Harsh? Maybe, but you don't bring your fucking vuvuzelas to a goddamn restaurant.

    That being said, Holland you have failed me. I am sad.

    The only thing I think he probably should/could have carded was Puyol on Robben when Robben was on a break away. I think he tried to give Robben the advantage, who knows.

    Robben did get lucky by not getting a second yellow for playing the ball long after the whistle while trying to waste time to get to PKs. (since they only had 10 men at the time IIRC)

    I have never had any interest whatsoever in soccer (football/futball/whatthefuckever) in the past, but my friend forced a bunch of us to watch the finale of the world cup and
