Last year, during PAXEast, was my fist time seeing Monday Night Combat. They gave me a t-shirt and I was in love. For the return to PAXEast, they've updated the game and are preparing for a surge of new players.
Also they added more Penny-Arcade stuff.
The Wandering Age has begun
Monday Night Combat for Xbox LIVE Arcade is a class-based, third-person shooter… and the most popular lethal sport of the future! It blends intense combat, finishing moves, and gameshow-like challenges and rewards to produce an action experience unlike any other. Why fight for “honor” or “duty” when you can fight for the real American dream: cash, fame and endorsements?
The game is commonly described as a mix between Warcraft 3's "Defense of the Ancients" and Team Fortress 2 all wrapped-up in a 3rd-person perspective.
Debut VideoOh and it's coming to Steam soon too!And a familiar robot is joining them! Also a cross-promotion with Team Fortress 2!Game Type: BlitzBlitzGame Type: CrossfireCrossfireMeet the classes:
PAX DebutAssaultEquipment: assault rifle and grenade launcher
The Assault is the closest thing Monday Night Combat has to a “big play man”. He is the center of attention always, and the unofficial leader of the pack. He is most often seen driving the attack while dazzling the crowd with his acrobatic plays and daring-do.
Notable DNA:
Riddick Bowe, Princess Diana, David Beckham, Benny Hill
Likes:
Gallery openings, Egyptian silk, VIP rooms, slapping bald men on the head
Dislikes:
art, near white caviar served in anything other than a 24-karat gold ramkin
TankEquipment: jet-engine gun, laser railgun
Tank Gameplay
The Tank is a modern day grunt, a blue-collar warrior who is fearless in battle and who relishes his role as the point of attack. On the field of combat he is gruff, crude and doesn’t care who knows it. Off the field however he is as vulnerable and sensitive as they come. He has a great deal of insecurity regarding his size, looks and lack of social graces especially with the opposite sex.
Notable DNA:
Ray Lewis, Jesse Ventura, Kimbo Slice
Likes:
bar brawls, women with tattoos, compliments
Dislikes:
pretty boys, acid reflux, being alone on romantic holidays
SniperEquipment: sniper rifle, smg
The Sniper
All who take the field of Monday Night Combat fear the Sniper. Even other Snipers fear them. Some even fear themselves.
Snipers in MNC have been designed to be the world’s foremost long distance killing machines, taking their DNA from some of the greatest snipers in video game history.
The Sniper is by far the most enthusiastic combatant on the team. He stays up late at night drawing plays. He watches hour after hour of video, practices relentlessly and does nothing that might jeopardize his performance on game day. During game time he often acts like the coach or quarterback, calling out plays that only he’s familiar with (his teammates ignore the playbooks he gives them) and getting extremely frustrated with the rest of his squad.
His genetic make up combined with his solitary profession and intense focus have left little room for people skills. While he means well, the Sniper is brusque and short-tempered, especially when he feels teammates aren’t listening to him during combat. He sports an eastern European affectation that when combined with his shrill voice make for an almost comical effect when barking orders, especially when angered.
The Sniper loves Monday Night Combat and everything about it. He is a huge stickler for the rules and sees the world as being very black and white.
Notable DNA:
Hardcore gamer champions from MLG, WCG and WSVG.
Likes:
Playing Monday Night Combat, practicing for Monday Night Combat, talking about Monday Night Combat, drawing up plays for Monday Night Combat
Dislikes:
Almost everything else.
SupportEquipment: heal gun, shotgun
No team can win consistently without a Support position, whose primary responsibility is to use his extensive knowledge of cyberbiology and medicine to keep his team sharp, alert and on the battlefield for longer periods of time than their opponents.
Notable DNA:
Leonardo DaVinci, Steve Jobs, Sushruta Samhita, Dr. Kinsey
Likes:
gondolas, Ferraris, Swiss chalets
Dislikes:
any type of instant or fast food, sewer rats, hotel paintings
Gunner (My personal fav)Equipment: minigun, mortars
The Gunner is slow and thoughtful, and very rarely gives into any sort of panic or excitement. He is protective of his teammates; often the only way to get any sort of rise out of him is for an opponent to score an especially vicious kill.
Notable DNA:
Sumo wrestler Chiyonofuji Mitsugu, Otis, a prize winning yak, 1988 Washington Redskins offensive line, Lord Byron
Likes:
coral reefs, ukulele jams, poetry of Lord Byron
Dislikes:
large cities, crowds, shopping for pants
AssassinEquipment: dagger, shurikens
Meet the Assassin (she is a girl ninja)
Deadly, quiet, invisible. The Assassin has become one of the most popular combatants on MNC due to her acrobatic kills and cool cloaking ability.
Notable DNA:
Mary Lou Retton, Michelle Yeoh, Charlotte Corday
Likes:
independent thinkers, substance over style, being feared, the roar of the crowd, the rush of the kill
Dislikes:
rampant consumerism, cowardice, arrogance, being “owned”
And of course, there are the crazy fake sponsors of the MNC world:AmmoMuleLaseRazor

In one of the gametypes, Crossfire, the players' roles are to set up defense towers and destroy robot drones from the enemy team. They must also destroy enemy towers so their own drones can reach the force-field surrounding the "money-ball" and taking it down so the players and robots can destroy it, scoring the win for the team.
It's more of a symmetrical tower-defense game than it is an adversarial deathmatch/ctf game.
edit: Crossfire added to OP.
The Crossfire gametype is what we played at PAX-East.
this is what I want
they held some sort of tournament. i showed up for the last round, tycho had been saying good things about it at panels, thought i'd give it a look. there's like two dudes running the show with a mic.
the last round is tense, lots of shouting from the crowd, etc. made for quite the spectacle. last minute finish and the red team wins, screams of relief/joy commence. everyone congratulating each other and shit.
one of the dudes with the mic goes on about the great game and the red team taking the championship. other dude grabs the mic, and says, 'there's a secret stat that only the server knows, let me check the server. ohh.... looks like red team didn't win by enough.' i'm thinking, what the fuck they got a close, heated match everyone around seemed interested and excited. what the fuck more do these fuckers want. give the red team their prizes and shit. guy with the mic, 'so... because you didn't get this stat high enough, red team now has to play the developers for any chance at the prizes promised.'
crowd begins to murmur. a couple guys on the red team mutter something about getting jerked around... guy on the mic screams, 'IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LEAVE!'
so i left, seemed like a weird way to promote a game. walked around the corner and played a game of that awesome team-based tetris battle thing with the towers that shoot eachother, and you kill creeps to get new blocks. that game was fucking awesome.
that shit is so fun, can't wait for a release.
Upgrade and he has TWO miniguns on his arm.
It's like opening a portal to a dimension full of bullets.
...and there goes the surprise second upgrade.
Bullet dimension.
It was never a surprise

She was all about it at PAX
So I basically bought a 360 to play RDR and this, so I'm definitely getting it
I recently bought a second headset. It's a replica of the Motorla ones used by NFL coaches.

I'm upgrading for gold because of this and because we just got Netflix

and I just watched a video for Shadow Complex. that game looks way cool
Speaking as someone who has it, I would recommend it. it has a good Metroid feeling to it.
As for this Monday Night Combat thing, it also looks awesome (aside from the idea that the sniper character appears to be every hardcore gamer asshole ever).
Item can only be shipped inside the US.
If you're not following @UberEnt you should be because they're giving away free stuff in the days leading up to launch.
release character skins for the inevitably massive amounts of fanart of their characters drawn as girls

While I already stated I like the gunner, I'll definitely give the Tank a good shake. I mean, his name is like MY name!
The whole third-person shooter tower defense game with a money system and purchasable upgrades doesn't do it for ya?
I wish more people could see past the art style of this game.
Also I'll most likely get this because TF2 on the console was awful and I just can't be bothered playing it on my laptop
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
