Sacramento Freezepop Concert Meetup 09/29 (and other events)

edited September 2010 in PAX Archive
Last year Blain organized a lunch for Sacramento area PAXees to get to know each other before the event.

It was kind of a disaster when we all gathered under the hot summer sun to discover that our expected choice of venue was no longer in business, and we had to quickly organize a scouting party to find another pizza place that was walkably close, while the damage control team expertly drafted and affixed meeting relocation advisory signs to the empty husk of the appointed Roundtable's.

And then we discovered that the emergency replacement pizza parlor didn't have any air conditioning.

But despite all this, once everybody got there, we sat around and talked and got to know each other and generally had a good time. Which is why I am announcing and organizing another such event. But this time at a place that actually exists!

This sounds like a neat idea. Count me in, plus one. =]
Also, suggestion for alternate pizza place.... Symposium. Fantastic. It is a bit more out of the way though, so might be not so good for the non-drivers out there.

Symposium is also a tad on the formal side for a meet when you aren't sure exactly how many people will be coming or when they'll be showing up. If we get closer to the date and not too many other people have expressed interest, though, I'd be up for that. It's actually a really convenient location for me.

I could probably make it to this. Not sure if I'll actually make it to PAX with my current schedule / lack of baby sitter and spare funding but the rest of my staff will be there so that's good :)

    Romas! Romas! Romas!

You can put me down as tentative. Assuming nothing comes up, it would be nice to do this.

Hexcore, While that also looks like it could be a fun thing to do, I really had a more relaxed meet-for-lunch-and-talk-for-hours kind of thing in mind. So meeting at a rock-climbing gym would not really work for my original intent. If you've got any suggestions for more convenient fooding locations, though, fire away.

Everybody, I've updated the attendees list for the Pre-pax. Let me know if I got anything wrong and/or if you're down for the post-pax as well.

Thank you for letting me know about this, Upthorn, and count me in for the pre-PAX lunch! It'll be great to meet some fellow PAXers from the area, especially since the chances of me bumping into someone local once actually there are probably slim. I'll keep an eye on this thread in case anything changes, but in the meantime looking forward to meeting you all!

On second thought, I think I reacted without thinking here. If you can find a time for this, and anybody else seems interested, I can add it as an event to the first post.

Ah. Finally. A time and tentative location a good amount of time in advanced (Looking at you, Bay Area meet-ups!! You're on my "Annoyed" list!)

Anywho. Granted, it's Sacramento--not a fan of that area--and I am luckily smack-dab in the middle of Sacramento and San Francisco (Fairfield to be exact) I am totally kosher with this.

    Count me in, please.

I had a blast last year and would love to come down again along with my PAX partner in crime, but alas, Saturdays don't work. Sunday does, but it looks like there is a good group set up for Saturday. Make sure someone confirms the existence of the pizza place this time, lol.

Count me in again this year! I was about to start this thread myself, but thanks for doing the work Upthorn. I might be bringing 4 PAXers from Chico with me, but at the least I'm confirmed. Can't wait to see you all again.

I'll get back to you on the Post-PAX party.

:( VonXWolfenstein. We could have had a pretty epic Chico Caravan!

Ouch. I was especially hoping to get people who attended last year's failpizza. That's part of why I scheduled it for 1 PM the last Saturday before PAX, just like last year's.

If it isn't prying, may I ask what the conflict is -- is there any way it can be worked around?

Cerrato0426, added you to the list

It looks to me like you could reasonably make both of them, lunch starting at 1 and the chemical brothers concert starting at 8, and the two events being only about an hour and a half travel time away from each other.

My fiance works on Saturday and he really wants to come, but he can't take that day off since we are leaving the 1st of sept to head up to PAX. If I could bum a ride I could make it, but I can't afford the gas for my 15mpg guzzler just before driving to Seattle :)

Alright, so since I can catch a ride, looks like I am in.

Also, since Freeze Pop is not going to be at PAX this year, I was bummed, but.....they are doing a show in Sacramento Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Blue Lamp, 1400 Alhambra Blvd. With Ming & Ping and Aerodrone. Doors at 8. $10 in advance, $10 at the door. 21+. (I copy/paste good!)

I was thinking this would be a good addition to the post-pax weaning period or perhaps an alternative to the post pax lunch since there is not a whole lot of commitment to is so far(although it is quite early).
Either way we will be heading down to Sacramento for the concert, and were wondering if people wanted to meet up do dinner before the show?

Yeah, me too. Fortunately my classes are actually in Sacramento, so it shouldn't be a huge problem. On the other hand, I still have to check my class schedule and make sure I don't have a huge pile of schoolwork to do that night.

Updated the pizza and the concert list. I'm beginning to think perhaps I should consider making a reservation for us at roundtable, response to this was much higher than I expected.
