Looking for/offering a ride to/from PAX
Moe FwackyRight Here, Right NowDrives a BuickModeratorMod Emeritus
This thread is for people either trying to catch a ride or looking for a ride. This can be from your hometown, or just from the airport. Please stay polite, and on topic.
I'm renting a car to drive to PAX from Albuquerque NM, and back. I already have one person going with me, if anyone needs a ride, it'll be cheaper for all involved. I can pick up anybody on this route...
I won't go more than 30 miles out of the way to pick anyone up, so if you're farther than that, you'll need to arrange transport to that point. The only exception is if you happen to live between Albuquerque and Socorro NM, as that's where the other person that's going lives.
I'll be leaving on September 1st by 9AM and doing a twenty-hour straight-shot all the way to Seattle. I'll be returning on the morning of the 7th, in much the same manner. Help with driving would be appreciated, but only if you're over 25. Otherwise, helping to pay for gas and car rental costs is enough. I'll prorate the rental cost if you're further north than Moab Utah. I'll have room for 2 people, and a reasonable amount of luggage.
damn, you're going straight through my town. not even close to my timetable though lol. But I tell you what, gimme a call on the way through town, and I'll get you some coffee.
seriously, I'll PM you my number and my schedule details so that you can take me up on the offer if you feel like stopping here in town.
I don't make it a habit to ask for things but I figured this time it might be better than the alternative.
I'm flying from Sacramento to SeaTac landing at the very inconvenient hour of 12:57am on Friday morning. I have heard the buses run at this hour but I would have to walk quite a ways at around 1:45am (after getting off the plane and claiming baggage) to get to the first bus stop, ride that for an hour and walk another 15 blocks or so to the timeshare I'm staying at.
I'm not looking for anyone to make a special trip on my behalf but if anyone would happen to be in the area heading that direction I would greatly appreciate the lift!
I can sympathize. I'm hoping to get into town in time to hop on the last rail downtown. Otherwise, I'll have to taxi it.
now wait...if we're in the same boat we could do this together...I just didn't like the idea of trying to tackle the bus system at that hour, with luggage, alone, to a location I've never been...
You might consider Shuttle Express if you're not staying in the downtown core. I've used them many times for airport trips from North Seattle when friends aren't available, and often when I arrive late I'm in a van all to myself.
STITA has a contract for taxi service from the airport but that can get pricey fast if you're trying to keep the tab low.

the shuttle express is like...$25 round trip! It's a rediculous amount of money...not to mention it's not running at that hour...
my only options are:
cab-super expensive
bus-cheap but walking and alone
friendly pax driver

I just did the pre-reservation for a flight arriving at 1am on Friday September 3 with a dropoff in north Seattle, and it would be $36 one-way for a shared van with a pickup time of 1:20am. So yes, it is possible, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a taxi which would run you about $70 for the same trip.
However, if you feel $25 round-trip would be ridiculous, then there may not be much we can do to help you. Traveling ~15 miles from the airport to the city is not cheap, and it's even less cheap when you're trying to do it at off hours.
You should probably just call to some car services in the area. Some would be willing to give you a break being it's during the slow time, for the airport at least.

You may have some sticker shock when you're looking at eating that weekend, if $25 round trip (to and from the airport) is too expensive for you.

Seriously, 25 for a cab is not too bad, seeing as it is a half hour drive.
Link Light Rail doesnt run that late, you'll just miss the last train (it's $2.50)
Busses might, and if you take the right one it's almost nonstop, and probably not too crowded that late.
Anyway, if you are a woman, traveling alone, with heavy luggage, at 1 in the morning... Isn't your safety more important than 25 bucks?
I mean I understand what it is to be broke, and I have six cents in the bank right now.
But PAX is a vacation, and you're gonna spend two to four times as much as that on food a day. Unless you eat subway all day every day.
Honestly, if you can't figure out that bus, and don't know how to get from the underground bus station to the hotel; you should take a cab just for safety's sake.
But that's just my opinion, hopefully you find a ride!

A coworker once told me that hired towncar services are cheaper for airport rides than a cab from the U-district. He always does it for business trips.
What route did you find for your bus option? There aren't many options left from the airport to the city since the light rail got put into service. If it's the 174, it is not express. Please consider paying for another option, that is a known trouble route (along with the 358 see #358metro on twitter).
Yeah, if you take the bus, I think you'd need to be worried about more than once you get off the bus - there are some sketchy people on Seattle buses late at night. Also, based on your costume pictures, I'm guessing you'll have a lot of luggage, and it's just not worth bringing it all on a bus.
Does your hotel have a shuttle? TBH, even if most PAX attendees are cool, I still wouldn't suggest getting a ride alone with a virtual stranger at 2 am (that said, I am paranoid). Splitting a taxi/towncar at least brings a third party driver aboard.
Shuttle Express is probably your cheapest option for getting from Seatac to downtown Seattle. Trust me, I've been doing this since 2004.
That being said, if someone offers to give you a lift, keep in good phone contact with them. Late flights are among the most likely to get laid over. You don't want your ride waiting for you at the terminal while you're still stuck in California.

I had planned on eating subway everyday actually lol...I even budgeted for it. My current plan IS to take the bus at a tune of $2.50 each way...my only beef was that I would be alone, not familiar with my surroundings and walking around with a suitcase.
I was quoted at about $50 for a cab one way
my options are few given the hour I arrive and I'm sure I'm not the only one around the airport at that hour trying to get to downtown right? If there was at least two of us making the same trip I don't see an issue...safety in numbers
the costume won't take up too much room as it is just a carved cushion...I can pretty much stuff Gabe's shirt and pants inside the head lol
thanks for all those who've responded so far...I'm considering all suggestions
I know it's a vacation and I'll spend more money than not but with all the things airlines are charging for ($50 baggage fee roundtrip) Every little penny I can save is MUCH needed
So, I already have a ride up to PAX this year, but I'm looking to upgrade. Here's the deal: Due to scheduling restrictions, we're planning to leave Sacramento around 1 or 2 in the afternoon on thursday, which by my calculations puts us in Seattle at 4 am at the earliest. This isn't zomgwtf super terrible, but I'm an Enforcer and have a 9 am shift that friday. Hence my trepidation.
If anyone will at any point be even remotely close to Sacramento and is planning on being in seattle on or before PAX thursday, please let me know.
(I am familiar with the CCST but cant afford the ticket)
PS I am moving to Austin IMMEDIATELY after PAX (as in, flying out of Seattle) and will therefore not require a return trip.
There is a good chance you wont be alone on the bus as other attendees are incoming. Just don't get in a scary looking van with strangers in Seattle lol. We have all the troubles of a large US city.
I would help you out since I'm usually up at that hour and live pretty close to the airport but I don't like going to the airport and I don't have much money for gas as it is.
I would really recommend just paying the $25 round trip for Shuttle Express. That is a really good price considering that is about what gas would cost someone to pick you up and drop you off then return back to where they live.
Last train to downtown leaves at 12:10, so not even close.
Last train that leaves Sea-Tac is at 12:50 and only goes to the Mt. Baker station which still leaves her a good ways from downtown, and she still wouldn't make it to the train in time anyway.
Also someone claimed $75 for a taxi from the airport to downtown which is just nonsense. It should run abut $40. There are of course cheaper options, but just want to clarify that.

yeah, almost all of them have a flat "airport to downtown" rate posted on the cabs themselves, it's usually $35-40 tops
Normally I wouldn't do something like this, but considering we leave to drive down to Seattle next wednesday, I really have no other choice.
This past week I've unfortunately had a friend who has to drop out. While I am less than impressed by this, his reasons are justifiable. However, the hotel room is already booked, his 3-day pass already purchased, and he was one of our rides down there.
As such, I am now looking for one more person to join us on our trek down to Seattle. We leave Edmonton next wednesday, stop for a short break in Calgary to pick up 2 friends of mine, and then continue onto Cranbrook, BC for the night. We then arrive in Seattle on the Thursday. Friday-Sunday is PAX (Though you already knew that), and we're staying in Seattle the Monday as well to do some general sightseeing and have some fun, leaving Seattle on Tuesday the 7th, stopping in Cranbrook again that night, and returning to Edmonton on Wednesday the 8th. If you are from either of these 3 places (Ed/Cal/Cran) and want to come to PAX, please let me know ASAP, and we can work something out.
Your hotel room would be at the Westin with 2 friends of mine. Your total share would come out to be somewhere around $380 CDN. People with a vehicle they would be willing to drive down would be very much preferred. At this point, if it helps us find someone, I'm willing to throw in the 3-Day badge for free.
P.S. DO NOT send me a message if you just want the pass. I already have arrangements for it should nobody be found. I am looking for passenger/hotel guest only. Any messages received regarding the badge itself will be ignored. Thanks.

Anyone leaving for downtown from the airport around 11:30 PM on Thursday, I'm looking for a ride, or to share a cab. Specifically, I'm arriving from Dallas on American Airlines.
I think there was someone else arriving within an hour of that time. I can borrow my family's car, considering how often I play the role of cheffuer/plumber/electrician/IT, they won't mind.
I live in Seattle and I'll be at PAX. But on Tuesday, September 7, I'm driving to Sacramento as part of moving to LA. My stuff should fit in my trunk, so I'm looking for 1-2 others to help with the drive or for conversation. I plan to leave before dawn.
Carved cushion??? I am excited and frightened at your costume for this year.
lol...it's a Gabe cosplay...but since i'm black....and a girl.... I thought I wouldn't be a very convincing Gabe in my current...um...state? So I made a mascot style suit...like my big blue monster thing last year
Thats right....I was hoping to see you again and waved at your costume and didn't know it was you...damn, 1 wedding, giving a toast to the bride and groom, birth of a baby, and I forget everything!

Stita's rate was $28 last time I checked. They may have increased this over the past couple of economic crises, but it can't be more than $35.
I have a friend who desperately needs a ride from Eugene, it is also possible I could also use one from Portland. Me: Leaving the Sacramento/Roseville Area Wendsday about 11:00 AM driving up to Seattle to be there on Thursday.
