Intel Game On, round three: FIGHT!

edited September 2010 in PAX Archive
Hello all!

Erik here, writing to you about the third ever PAX Intel Game On. Remember? Big blue buttons? Prize patrol? Everyone’s a winner? If you’re a n00b, check out our PAX Prime 2009 thread and our PAX East thread. Before I go on – I work for a marketing agency named CMD. Intel is my awesome client. Mods: Robert should be along to bless this post momentarily :)

Okay, huh-what?
Here’s how Game On works.
  1. Find a Game On button and put it on. They look KINDA like this, though this year they’ve been tweaked. Same color though! If you have an ORIGINAL Game On button, bring it with you. Special prize if you do!
  2. Get spotted wearing the button(s) by our prize patrol (that would be me and a bunch of other Intel folks) and we’ll give you a prize card.
  3. Take the prize card to our booth and YOU WILL WIN. We have exciting prizes like shirts, caps, bags, and other stuff. You know, Core i7 Extreme CPU’s and gaming laptops. Whatever. Everyone wins something. Our booth will be in the South Lobby, just outside what used to be called the "queue room". And no, we're not on the map. :(

You can improve your chances of finding the prize patrol by following our Twitter account: @IntelGameOn. Every few hours we announce where the prize patrol will be. You may as well do this before and after the show, we are usually running some kind of contest there.

OMG NEW WAYS TO WIN!!!!!
Intel Game On Alumni Edition
Do you have a button or shirt or bag or Core i7 or something we gave you from a previous PAX? Come to our booth and show it to us (no, really, SHOW it to us or we might not clue in). You will be entered into a random draw to win a Core i7-980X Extreme Edition. You may be asked for the passcode -- it is "friend".

Intel Game On Hardcore Edition
Are you one of our Twitter regulars? Do you win twelve shirts every PAX but never something cooler? Well, pay close attention because Hardcore Edition is for you. Basically, we want your help getting our big blue Game On buttons on people. For every person you bring to our booth at 11:30am and 3:00pm every day of the show, we will give you a sticker to put on your badge. Collect 15 stickers and I'll give you a special goodie that regular Game On players won't get. Collect 25 and I'll add you to a drawing to win a Core i7. You can imagine how great your odds of winning will be. All your friends will be given Game On buttons.

You will need to register with me to get activated. I'll be at our booth in the south lobby every day at 11:30am and 3:00pm -- just ask the booth staff where the "Twitter guy" is!

ps. Hardcore mode pretty much relies on the honor system so please be honorable. ;)

Awesome! When!?
We start when the doors open and we stop when the last round of the Omegathon ends.

And please keep an eye on this thread as I’ll be providing some updates as time passes. Okay, now you talk. Questions? Comments? If you’ve played Game On in the past, I’d love to hear from you. ;)

It does. This year's button, I'm 80% sure, has the dude from Mega Mind on it.

It's more about them finding you. Intel reps wander around randomly, and if they see a person wearing a button, they give them some sort of claim ticket to go get a prize from their booth. The Twitter thing is just so people can "cheat", find out where an Intel person is planning on being. But those are only a special few, normally it's just total luck.

So you're fine without Twitter, that just gives you an edge.

Do you have to wear the original and get noticed like you're wearing the new one's? Or can you find someone at the booth or something and show the button and get the prize? Just a little confusion to clear.

ooh, i'll have to see what I did with my button from East...i know i went through a couple of them, but I think i managed to make it out with one still intact.

At one point, I came across a spotter, she asked if I had a button. I turned to show her the button on my backpack, and all that was there was the pin, but the actual button itself had apparently fallen off. :(

    edit: sweet, found it!

You can swing by the booth and show your button, whether you get noticed by the prize patrol or not, for a goodie. :)

I hope we haven't opened a massive can of worms, prize-quantity-wise, by doing this. I'm kinda surprised by how many people here kept their buttons! D:

You should figure out a way to mark someone so you don't get one person with 15 '09 Intel buttons coming back over and over.

    Intel forehead stamp FTW

Yes, this. This is a good idea. Fortunately we don't get too many people abusing the system. It's tough to keep track of who comes by, particularly on day two and three.

from previous threads, it seems like some of the card give-outs turn evil where people are jumping all over each other to grab one. =( id definitely wear intel badges because this seems like fun, but should i worry about being trampled on, im 5'0?

It rarely gets "zombie horde" crazy, although I must admit that was pretty awesome, so no I wouldn't be too concerned. ;) This year I think I'll be asking people to form an impromptu line, as...well, I have accidentally given one person more than one card on occasion.

Lack of sleep + weird lighting = mishaps like that one.

Yep, I'm typing on the machine it's in right now.

My only complaint (if you can call it that) is that I had to upgrade so many other components in my system to be worthy of sharing the same case as that CPU that it cost me way more than the retail value of the CPU. But, I now have one of the best PCs money can buy.

Are you guys going to have any mobo's or other components to compliment those i7's? :winky:

Seems like every year at PAX one of my friends wins some sweet new hardware and then they have to build an entire PC to use it. Free treasure usually ends up as a big post-PAX Newegg order!

Crossing my fingers that this year when we compile all our freebie hardware grabs we might have enough to build a whole PC. :)

Yay! the Intel Game On crew was probably my favorite at PAX last year. They all genuinely seemed to be having a GREAT time at PAX, were always smiling, and rewarded creativity - so it was super fun to see how people would wear their buttons to try and nab a prize card. Post PAX last year they did a promo at Fry's Electronics in Renton and a bunch of us went to visit for kicks. A few even won some cool hardware!

Can't wait to see you guys. Have NO idea if I still have my PAX09 Intel button though. I do still have my swag bag so one might be in there. =P

The fun thing about Intel is that the mobo and CPU groups are different businesses. My client is the CPU group. So although we might have some mobos on display at the booth, we won't be including them in the prize bundle :x
