PAX North

So, there's a PAX Prime and a PAX East what would be the chances of having a regional PAX here in Canada called PAX North? We just had our "Fan Expo" this past week end which was an incredible train wreck of an event. Every year they hold it and every year it gets worse and worse. Last year was painful this year was like getting a root canal with no anasthetic. They had bigger names, half the size and more ticket booths so they filled up in a matter of hours and had a ton less space to show stuff.

So, yeah, my question. If I felt in my fever dream of a life I could do it right and wanted to do a PAX in Canada who would I talk to?

There won't be a pax north. If for nothing else it would be far too cost prohibitive to ship all of the pax stuff across the border.

    Sorry.

This question comes up often (PAX North, PAX South, PAX Europe). The answer is always "we would love to have PAX everywhere, but right now we have no intention of spreading beyond PAX Prime and PAX East". Organizing PAX takes a ridiculous amount of work to pull off, I don't think that the current team is looking to add to that. :)
This shouldn't discourage you from organizing meetups, LANs, and other ways to get social with fellow gamers though.

Thanks for the quick response all. :-)

I'm kind of sad but hey, just gives me an excuse to go to one of the real deals. I think after the train wreck (this is cleaning up the language that I'd use in closed circles) that the Toronto Fan Expo was this year I'm going to look in to trying to organize something my self. I used to go to Sci-Fi cons here in Toronto back in the day and I just think a trained monkey could do a better job of running a con then Fan Expo here. Hell, an untrained monkey could. It felt like a big money grab. Yes there were panels, yes there were guests, but all I really saw was a great big sweaty nerd flu laden flea market with some game/comic/Suicide Girl stalls thrown in.

But hey, you guys have some big fans up here and I was sporting my Fruit Fucker shirt with pride (got a couple of high fives out of the deal too.) One of these days I'm just going to have to make it down to a PAX and hopefully if I ever get a con made up you guys could make it up here. :-)

Seriously? both prime and east are in the northern hemispheres... you would be better off arguing for a PAX south...

For me the thing is this, I live in Canada. We've got a few conventions across Canada but most of them are multi-interest and do lots of things okay but none of them well. Like for example Fan Expo it's all very generalist and what is specialist is very very small. Even the game convention doesn't hold a candle. It's just kind of a bummer. Ah well, I'll just check out what does exist and if it really bugs me I'll just start my own. :-)

Its not far for you to travel to either event. christ they are both on the northern states of the US.

You will have far more luck saving for a trip to one of those than to lobby for PAX to come close to you.

Well now that you mention it, have a PAX at my work, that way we don't have to ship things across the border.
PAX in the states isn't all that bad if you're from canada, it's relatively cheap to get to those northern states, you can even take a bus down there if you're so inclined, and stay in hostels to save cash. I know a guy who's taking the trip spending only a couple hundred bucks for the whole thing

We don't do request threads for PAX in your hometown, sorry. If there is a third PAX, the most likely place it will be is in Europe.
