PAX 2011 Dates Wrong?

Maybe I'm misreading it but the program advertised PAX Prime 2011 was going to happen August 27-29. I've checked two different calendars (I'm one of those types that doesn't trust what I see sometimes...I know...I need help) and that mean PAX starts on a Saturday and ends on a Monday...and that's not even a Labor Day Monday.

Typo?

New format?

Bizarre alternate reality program swapped with the real program by Evil Wil Wheaton?

Yeah I had the same question. Would love to get an answer so I can schedule my time off for my 2nd PAX ever. The first one was so awesome I am hooked!

They posted something about it on the official PAX Twitter page:

I saw the twitter correction, but I'm still surprised that it's not Labor Day weekend. There's been numerous mentions that Labor Day weekend was better for scheduling and securing discounts. Perhaps there's just too much competing with Bumbershoot down the street?

I like this. I like this a lot. it allows people to get the time off more easily. My first PAX ('09) was a real fight with my bosses to get the days off (somehow convinced them it was a family reunion.)

it'll make it easier for us to get rooms closer too, no more competing with bumbershoot for rooms.

i would guess that doing a show against Bumbershoot is an issue - i suspect that the local rental houses (for lighting rigs, cables, sound equipment) are tapped out, and that all the local sound techs of any quality are over at Seattle Center.

Yeah, one of the main reasons (for attendees) I remember being touted was the ability to negotiate much better hotel rates, I haven't seen a difference in pricing from holding it in August vs. September.

Yeah and I hate the OnPeak online thing. I'd rather just get a list of rates and pick the hotel I want to work with...maybe I'm just grumpy. :)

And, the nice thing about Labor Day weekend is it just seems easier to travel to some extent. Traffic was great going to and coming from the respective airports today.

With the dates thing out of the way...time to think about whether I should go Enforcer in 2011...

Actually I was thinking I might try to fly out to Boston and do the Enforcer gig there then keep Prime as the "fun" trip. :)

I know this is off-topic but do you know if you can sort of pick your top 3 shifts (I'm more worried about having time to see some stuff than what I'm asked to do)?

Back on topic: are the PAX East dates off too? The site (http://www.paxsite.com/paxeast/) shows March 26-28th which is again, Saturday through Monday...

Those are last years dates, they haven't been updated on that page yet. However if you're planning a trip, the Official PAX Twitter confirmed it's 3/11-3/13.

I found out Virgin flies to Boston from LA! Score! Now, to find enough money to get out there...

Ok so I can't access that tweet on my phone for whatever reason and I gotta schedule vac time today, last min. Are the real PAX prime 2011 dates Aug 26-28? I wish this info was easier to find for us who have to schedule it this far out.

The dates for PAX Prime 2011 were indeed wrong in the directory, the show will take place August 26 - 28.

My guess is someone else already booked the WSCC for labor day weekend.

Doing PAX vs Bumpershoot isnt really a big deal (a few PA people said so in the past) Since they are different demographics.

Off topic: We put in our top five shifts, and our super awesome coordinator does her very best to ensure that we get a choice as high up that list as possible. Shifts are generally 6 hours long, once per day, either morning, afternoon, or night, with a few exceptions. Keep in mind, though, that there is no bad shift. Just shifts that vary in what kind of awesome they are.
