You can make a lot of weaver stuff with earth shards, which might be worth switching to if you're just trying to level. Weaving uses tons of shards though. I think if I add up all the shards I have to use to make 1 shirt it would be around 50 o.O
Hmm, I'm 6 in weaving I think.
Any recipes I could do without too much effort at my level?
Hey Gally, could you make me some caster jewelry? Let me know what that would entail.
how about a pair of these? and 4 bone rings? I have an old bone ring +1 (or i should at least) Don't worry about the materials, ill fund that but I could really use a restock of the crystals at a minium 9ea for the wrist gaurds and 4ea for the rings. so a total of 34. More would be nice if ya got them though hehe.
Let me know if you like them and i'll work on them during my lunch break.
Also, for pickup ill be in Ul'dah tonight @ 8PM PDT tonight but only for a little bit. Got plans with the wife later this evening.
I'd love some things like this, if possible.
I can pay for mats if needed.
I'm set on mats. what I really need are wind shards. give me a grip of them ant ill make whatever you need Hehe.

If I'm leveling, I try to make base mats that will be useful later. Turning hempen yarn into hempen cloth would be good, it's all earth shards. Making the yarn takes 8! lightning shards, but you can also just buy the yarn at a vendor. Once you're done with that you can move on to cotton yarn and cloth. The cotton yarn takes 2 cotton bolls, but only 1 lightning shard to make 12. When you get close to where you're not getting good xp for either you can start turning the mats you made into completed items, with less chance that they'll asplode.

Ok I'll try buying the yarn then, since I'm low on lightning shards more than anything else.
I believe that cotton yarn actually takes 2 cotton bolls and a lightning CRYSTAL, not shard.
I remember thinking this would be a great way to level up weaver since I had a good number of lightning shards, but when I actually tried it, I saw my pitiful 1 lightning crystal in my inventory right before crafting...

You have a lot of lightning shards, you say?.... 8-)
EDIT - At least I can buy it. But at 1k per yarn and 3 yarn per cloth I can't buy much. What's the going price on lightning crystals (he asks, knowing that the market is batshit insane right now)?
I am in desperate need of gears.
I am lancer 15, carpenter and blacksmith 12 and I need stuff to replace the starter gear im still using.
Who can hook me up and let me know what materials/shards I must supply and any fee's payable.
I read somewhere that you can buy starter crafting gear from some NPC in ul'dah, if someone can point me in the right direction there then that may help me initially but I really need new lancer armour, I'm getting a bit too battered about to realistically complete my higher ranked leves.

I would check yg.com to see what you need to make various items. You're most likely going to have to go on a bit of an odyssey to get everything made.
A piece of chest-slot equipment can take six or seven components that are spread across two or three different Disciple of the Hand jobs (hurf hurf).
But once you know what you need you can talk to the specialists listed on the front page to go about producing stuff. I'd bring mats and crystals, because most of the Super Serious Synthesis Society eat up their crystals real fast.
I think what bothers me most about not having an AH is the super frustrating wall that people are running into having items crafted. If it's not something that can a) be completed in one synth or b) something that was used to level up a craft, you are asking someone for a LARGE chunk of their available time to make something.
Link asked me for a freaking shirt yesterday, which since I stopped skilling up weaving in favor of gathering to help those with more time on their hands advance their skills is probably at the tip of my abilities, but because he has been so generous with crystals I wanted to try. Looking at the recipe from the raw materials I had on hand it's like:
take your moko grass and make yarn
take your yarn and make cloth
take that cloth and make a front
make a back
make sides
make sleeves
find a LW for the shoulders
probably make a cowl
put it all together and pray to fuck you don't blow it up
With the UI in this game and the synth process that's like a fucking hour's worth of work. There's desperately needs to be an AH so someone can just buy their shirt. Or so, on weeknights when I only have two hours or so of playtime, I don't have to spent half of it looking for flax in the retainer ward. I'm not asking for easy, I'm asking for efficient.
the retainer ward is RETARDED. seriously, it should just be a search function like an auctionhouse or something. a billion npcs clumped together and each one being a rather cumbersome and slow process of checking their inventories is just stupid. I wish people would at least name their retainers something relevant to what they sell. I've spent the last couple days looking for a new axe and to no avail.
did find a dodoskin harness +1 for fairly cheap though.
If you're looking for an axe higher than your weathered one, head to LL. There's an NPC there named Kerrich that sells a bronze labrys for 42kish. If you're searching for something higher than that, you'll probably be better off seeing to getting someone to make it.
If the recipe is r15 or below, you should probably talk to any of our other fabulous alchemists as they're likely to have more time; Miramu is just behind me and likely to overtake me soon, so that's awesome.
If the recipe is higher or you're compelled by my advertisements, I'd be happy to help you--really, I would!--but I don't have a lot of time to play, so I need to prioritize it.
When I log in, my very first priority is to clear out my backlog of leves (local and regional) so that I can accept the current reset's list of leves before I lose out to the next reset. So please don't take it personal, but I am probably ignoring you until I'm done with that, much love. I would however be more than happy to grind out some regional leves with you during this time if you want. Especially r20s, as I can't reliably solo 'em yet myself.
After that, I usually hang out in Ul'dah and do priority crafts for stuff the LS needs.
If I've still got time, I would be MORE than happy to take orders and craft ANYTHING you can see in the Alchemy list (giving r21 recipes a try now and achieving moderate success!). Bring me the mats or ask me if I've got 'em. If the LS supplied the mats to me, I don't want anything from you in return, not even shards (but they're always appreciated!)
Now, if you don't mind waiting for me to have time, and you don't mind finding me wherever I might be in the world (usually the Alchemy lab in Ul'dah), you can give me materials to make stuff for you absolutely any time at all and I'll do my best to get around to it as quickly as I can, bearing in mind that backlogged leves and LS crafts will take priority. Rathiain can attest to the fact that it usually takes me no more than a day to handle big crystal->shard orders, and I went 13/14 last time.
Corollary: If you've done me a solid favor, remind me of that and take your rightful place as priority numero uno.
Well, dunno if this has been mentioned, saw a post in the Zam forums saying this about crafting:
Color of your sphere is what you should choose for your option:
White = Standard
Yellow = Rapid
Red = Bold
Shifting = Wait
Touchup is a re-roll on if your item is base or base+x, and x is determined by quality:
1-99 = +1
100-199 = +2
200-299 = +3
Anyone else have success along the lines of this? I was able to make 2 normal bracelets, 1 +1, 1 +2, and a +1 necklace following those color matching, and my +2 was in the 100-199 range, while my +1s were in the 1-99 range.
But current theories (and the post on the lodestone) lead the community to reject the idea that color is a cue for command choice.
Regarding touch up, I don't have enough information to comment on that. I don't frequently create finished items. Someone who produces pieces of equipment will be more capable of discussing that than I am.
Current theories including SE themselves saying that color is an indicator of difficulty. I really wish people would stop circulating the whole color corresponds to synth type theory. I can only imagine the poor broken synths that resulted
The post on the Lodestone gave us a lot of info, but not all of it.
For example, we now know that succeeding on a red colored orb will give you a higher quality increase. This is almost certainly what lead to the confusion about bold on red (and other confusions). Of course, using bold on red will give you a huge quality boost if you get a success. Just, good luck getting a success.
But SE didn't tell us if yellow or multicolored have any additional effects like red. They may just be indicators of chance of success, or they may have some other significance.
If the recipe is r15 or below, you should probably talk to any of our other fabulous alchemists as they're likely to have more time; Miramu is just behind me and likely to overtake me soon, so that's awesome.
I don't think of it as an overtake, so much as a tag team.
Also, the secret was malm kelp + sea sand. With cooking 13+ it was a 95% success rate.
And to jump off of what Mheso said.
I will be happy to take your orders for things I can produce. I have every synthesis skill at r10 or above, and I hope to have them all at r15 or above within a week to a week and a half. My rules for crafting are pretty straightforward:
I eat crystals for breakfast, so if you bring me some I will be happy to craft. I'm constantly leveling just about everything so I have a very eclectic collection of materials, but I'm probably not going to have everything you need. If you bring me the material or the material for the material I can soup-to-nuts it for you as long as there are no ridiculous rank requirements stuck in there somewhere. If I have the material on hand it's free, I was probably going to vendor it anyway to make room for more crap that I would generate from recipes for grinding mats.
I'm not as good as the specialists obviously, some of them have devoted even more time to their single synthesis job than I have to all of my jobs combined. But for most of you players who started on the 30th, who will need replacement equipment soon, I can probably kit you out almost entirely by myself.
I have about 3 stacks each of Malm Kelp and Sea Sand waiting to be used, and I constantly harangue any fisher/cook to give me their extra Malm Kelp/Sea Sand, but I simply do not have time to perform any "grinding" synths between all the LS requests and leve catching-up.
I'm gonna have to set aside some time to miss sleep for this. :P
EDIT to add: If I didn't make it clear, I totally concur, and would hope ALL Alchemists in the ~15 range level their cooking a bit and grind on Sea Sand+Malm Kelp since local leves are unpredictable as hell, and very frequently don't give you high level options.
mheso... i forgot to give you your circlet last night >_< im holding it and will give you next time i see you online
Edit, dinged 18 GSM tonight and am now able to slam out brass rings with no fails.
Side note. once i hit the 20's i may slow down a bit because silver is kinda hard to come by and the required shards go way up. Still hoping someone discovers the clear glass lens recipe soon so i can start pumping out specs for everyone.
If anyone can make me Silver Rings (armor piece) i will hug you. I can make silver and darksilver wristlets with them.

At this point it seems the best option is to gather raw materials and hire people to moosh it together for you.
Also, has anyone done any wood-choppin around Uldah since last patch? Are all the trees still varying what type of wood they give or has it settled onto one type like around Gridania? I never get anything besides Maple around Gridania now. I'm wondering if they divided it all up by area.

Picture Me Rollin'
I'm gonna have to set aside some time to miss sleep for this. :P
EDIT to add: If I didn't make it clear, I totally concur, and would hope ALL Alchemists in the ~15 range level their cooking a bit and grind on Sea Sand+Malm Kelp since local leves are unpredictable as hell, and very frequently don't give you high level options.

Also, haggling with pubbies is also an exercise in frustration.
