I'm gonna have to see if the Hub is airing this again at some point tonight.

EDIT: Why yes, yes it is. At midnight. Might watch that new GI Joe thing that's on right before it as well.

it's good to see that hasbro can set out to create a brand new, consistent, fully realized continuity to be used for years to come and still manage to contradict themselves several times before the cartoon has officially started airing

Welp. Watched the first two Transformers Prime episodes.
So much for The Rock as Cliffjumper. :?

I didn't really see anything I disliked, other than the cliche young computer genius kid. I really could have done without that. Well, I could have done without any humans, but hopefully they at least do something interesting with them.

I guess we're gonna get Unicron in this then. If we ever get Prime toys, here's to...nevermind, not even going to bother.

GI Joe Renegades was pretty good too, although I was kind of switching between that and Pop-Up Airbender because they were showing the last episodes on Nick-Whatever.

so after digesting it for a while
I think the animation style does look pretty good, and will end up looking better
I dig most of the character designs, but not starscream's, bumblebee's or prime's
I like the way they're doing bumblebee's vocalizations
I still don't like Peter Cullen's Optimus Prime there I just said it again.
I like Arcee more than I expected
I don't like Bulkhead as much as I expected (probably because I miss the old voice)
    Soundwave is creepy and awesome
I am down with Welker's more calm and collected Megatron although it reminds me a lot of Animated Megatron and that's kinda twisting the knife
why the fuck did they kill off cliffjumper already, he was literally dead within ten minutes that's retarded they didn't even half-ass bring-him-back-later-with-maccguffin kill him they beat him up, shot him a few times, punched him through the chest, stabbed him with crystallized Satan, cut him in half and exploded him within the first two episodes. it didn't mean shit because we got to see the character for all of five minutes before he was brutally killed. he might as well have been a generic autobot.
while I ended up liking Sari by the end I think the girl and the little kid of this pack are just going to end up being a poor influence on the show's quality
the design of the decepticon drones is awesome as hell
they didn't really introduce the plotline and world as well as they could've. this is probably just me being bitter and unfair because Animated had a pretty damn strong start

I have many opinions about cartoons about robot toys

Just gave the two episodes a watch. The backgrounds still don't quite look right. Neither do most of their faces. If they're going to give Prime a mouth, couldn't they have made sure it looks good animated and matches what he's saying?

The rest of them look a bit better. Starscream's missiles just look...out of place. I have no clue what's going on with Soundwave. I also have no idea how this works in the War for Cybertron timeline, although they seem to be connected.

The WfC connection is still uncertain, Hasbro's declarations have never been so precise as to confirm there was any, they just said it might be used as an inspiration for future canon "If and when possible", and then the fans decided that means WfC is Prime's prequel. And, well, given how Starscream acts like he's never seen dark energon before yet he was the lead scientist in charge of the whole thing in WfC, it's not off to a good start for that line of thought.

show's ok so far, but arcee's robot mode is way way out of scale with her alt mode. if the other ones are out of scale, i couldn't tell because of how obvious arcee's was.

    I watched the first one

    I liked it!

It's taking the whole "robots in disguise" angle to the logical conclusion of actually being in disguise and having a secret war with the Decepticons instead of an easily visible, totally obvious one

Also the introduction of the human characters was handled a lot better than in the live action stuff, even if it was hitting the same beats

The biggest surprise was that I really liked the Rock as Cliffjumper and was sad when he bought it! I mean I guess he's too expensive to get his voice for a whole season but man, what a drag

The only real problem I have is that doing a CG animated show means that it has a shorter shelf life than an animated one. It'll hold up longer than Beast Wars, but even so, in ten years, this will look dated as fuck

Also I still can't believe everyone thinks giving Optimus Prime a mouth is a good idea. Whoever thought that up should be shot in their own mouth

Oh and did anyone else think that scene where that kid was basically feeling up Arcee was creepy? Because I thought it was creepy

    Random thoughts:

I'm not sure that hunched-over spidery evil is the kind of evil I want from a Starscrem, but man it's well executed. The contrast between him and Megatron is pretty awesome.

Not too fond of the texture quality in the environments.

Welker doing a less screamy roided out Megatron is pretty interesting, but it's kind of odd because it's close enough to almost push the nostalgia button but then not at all.

This show also starts so in medias res it's actually startling. It's kind of like "IT'S A TRANSFORMERS SHOW YOU KNOW THE DRILL LET'S GO." Which is kinda cool, but misses the opportunity for some kind of epic Cybertronian set up. So far the pilot feels like a season finale.

    Megatron is crazy as fuck.

The humans are okay, if stereotypical so far. Some of the Ratchet stuff falls flat on its face. But there are flashes of quality writing and execution that make me think that stuff is going to get excellent after a while.

Living in a post TF film world, where Welker and Cullen reprise their roles in an all cg series and my reaction is "that's pretty cool" instead of "HOLY SHIT" is weird.

Megs and Starscream are cool but we need more Decepticons with strong personalities STAT.

And so anyway to sum up this show is pretty all right and has a metric ton of potential to become fucking awesome after it gets up and running.

Friend of mine on TFW found and surprised me with a Tracks today! He is a pretty stinking awesome deluxe transformer. A very neat little automorph head reveal, and the fanmode flight mode is sooo much better than the "official instructions" flightmode. Buy him when you find him.

Also got a free KO Henkei Skywarp (because the stupid ass was SUPPOSE to send me a KO Henkei Thundercracker) which I haven't opened yet and the KO Botcon 2007 Mirage. Mirage is pretty nice, it's my first experience with the mold so now I'm even more interested in getting the original Classics version or any of his repaints. Shoulders are loose but I can't tell if that's clear plastic or the fault of it being a KO.

Oh yes, get more Classics Mirages. That mold is really really good. Not sure how the KO quality differs from the real thing but I've heard they're pretty close.

Oh, and I found a Tracks today as well. K-Marts are apparently getting them in all over the place, and they're also on sale for $8, so that's pretty great. I'm going out to try another one to see if I can get a Jazz. The close one I went to only had one Tracks, a Whatchamathing, and two Mindsets.

Tracks is slowly becoming one of my favorite deluxe molds not named Terradive to come out this year. He does so many little things that make want to transform him over and over. The automorph chest, the clip on weapons, the door wings, and the shoulder wheels are all great. I can't wait to get this mold as Wheeljack.

Just watched part 1 and 2 on Youtube, I really enjoyed it. I haven't watched a Transformers show religiously since Beast Wars though, so I don't have the love for Animated most of you have. But yeah, I really dig the animation style, and the character designs are really slick. Somebody mentioned scale and there were definitely a few points where it threw me off (Arcee is fucking huge for a motorcycle).

I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. Holy shit Megatron at the end. I really enjoy this Megatron! I couldn't really stand WfC Megs but this one seems a lot more cunning. Oh and Starscream is hella rad. His alt form is sweet. And I want to hear Soundwave soon...

Anyways I'll probably keep catching these on Youtube

For those curious. KO Henkei Skywarp is as decent as one would expect. Solid in some places and floppy as hell in others. But from I've heard that's the same story with the legit Henkei Skywarp and Thundercracker. So for $25 each I'd say if you're on the fence go ahead and get them. And for me Free makes this guy awesome!

Caught 1 and 2 on YouTube.

I'm honestly not sure what to make of it. There wasn't any one thing that was bad, but it also lacked "awww yeeeah" moments. It lacks oompf, especially in the battle scenes.

The bots seem a bit too... chromey. It doesn't look like auto paint on metal, it looks like a candy shell on chrome.

I dislike the humans, but it's less knee-jerk "no humans!" and more "these characters are walking cliches". You've got the average guy, the computer genius kid, and the girl who uses all the "modern" catch phrases. I feel like if someone else joins the show it will be a minority in a wheelchair so they can fill out the diversity quotient.

First thing I noticed: the music was what I actually wanted. If I can't have continual invocations of the G1 cartoon theme, I want something that sounds like the best thing the live-action films did: that being, the score. Epic, foreboding, sweeping. Although it does sometimes sound a bit more like The Dark Knight than the Transformers films, that's not a knock against it.

Second, the cinematography is beautiful--most prominently at the beginning of the first episode, but clever shots appeared all throughout. Even though the CGI itself isn't particularly advanced, they're taking real advantage of the camera tricks made possible with a 3D virtual world. That, with the music, made it feel very cinematic.

Third, the voice acting is good quality, but the actual dialogue varies from good to clever to very, very meh.

Fourth, the plot is, well, your typical overwrought Transformers plot, but it's done in a very understated way. I was impressed that they're letting the tension build, but then, this is part 1 and 2 of, what, a seven-part premiere?

Fifth, the characters are quite well-realized for a kids' show only two episodes in. In some cases this may be because only broad strokes are necessary to let you know, "Yes, this is your classic, Mark 2 Optimus: noble, upright, sounds a bit melancholy but keeps the reasons mostly to himself", but you got something from everyone (except Soundwave, who should remain an enigma).

Sixth, robot-on-robot violence. I was impressed by how much they got away with, but then they are robots, so it "doesn't count" as far as the Moral Guardians are concerned.

    Seventh...
Did anyone else get a chill when they unveiled a new name for Dark Energon? "Blood of Unicron"...sweeeet.

Not "blow-me-away fantastic", but a solid opening that has a lot it can build on.

Michael Bay has commented on claims that the next movie is having trouble with its 3D
Wow, I read these morons on the internet who think they are in the know. "We have have problems with our 3D????” Really? Come into my edit room and I will show you beautiful 3D. There has never been a live action show that has pushed the boundaries of 3D like Transformers 3. We shot the entire movie with 3D cameras. I actually loved shooting in 3D.

I will give full details of my process and why I liked 3D in the next week right before the Transformers announcement piece comes out on Tron and Narnia.

And don't watch this movie in 2D, we made it for 3D.
