Nintendo 3DS!!(RUMORS)

So earlier Joystiq reported that at gonintendo.com had a magazine articule a probable release date for the 3DS on March 11th! now there was an issue about photoshopping, but an update showed a proven unaltered photo from a reader that it showed a March 2011 release, which still could be the 11th.

If this is true then everyone attending PAX who wants a 3DS (which might be everyone!) this could lead to a large problem with local retailers in the Boston area.

It was already said the 3DS was coming to America in March 2011, I don't see how this is news. The March 11th has also been proven a Photoshop, and why would Nintendo release the 3DS on a Friday anyways?

As far as I remember the DS XL came out the friday before PAX this year (in the UK at any rate)

That would cause an interesting conundrum - wait in the PAX line friday morning or wait in the 3DS line friday morning.

Here's hoping for a midnight launch.

Na, not too bad. Just go to a Gamestop midnight release. We could even turn it into a PAX meetup.

I think it would be awesome if they could set up a booth at PAX so people could pick up their preorders. If that were to happen.

If for some reason they do release it on Friday or that week sometime...I'll be preordering my 3DS and picking it up in Boston somewhere.

Considering they haven't released a handheld in the past decade on a Wed, Thur or Fri I'd be surprised. However they might if they recognize PAX is a big enough deal.

Not quite sure where you got the 2009 date for the XL. It wasn't even announced until like October of 2009. Previous poster was correct. The North American release date for the DSi XL was March 28 2010 (during PAX East). That was... a Sunday (Saturday midnight). I distinctly remember being in awe of a fellow PAX East attendee who let me play around with his new Extra Large baby.

Whoops. That's what I get for looking up stuff and stopping/starting in between doing stuff at work.

    DSi - Sun, Apr 5th 2009

and your date is right on the XL. I remember it coming out during PAXE but don't think Nintendo planned it that way because no one knew PAXE was gonna be such a hit. Too busy at work to try to find out when Nintendo announced the release date on the XL compared to when PA announced the PAXE dates.

Certainly possible that Nintendo will release during PAX. I hope so. I wanna get my hands on that thing asap. Don't care if its $200.

Fairly rough. From what I remember anyways, but that's been 10 years.

But if by some lucky star the 3ds comes out during PAX East I'm all about getting as many of us together as are willing (hopefully thousands) to descend on the closest Gamestop and make them cry from the sheer numbers. We're PAXers, we're used to long lines. Gamestop employees...less so.

I couldn't even walk into my hotel with a closed 12-pack of beer at PAX East. They refused to let me take it to my room and made me check it. I'm pretty sure open containers in public will get you arrested in MA*.

If the release is really alongside the start of PAX, then I won't be getting a 3DS that night. There's enough going on that I really won't miss a few days without a 3ds.

I'd order it from the gamestop close to my house, but the problem is that if it's released on Friday, I have to pick it up on Friday or I won't be able to get it (pre-order contract is void after 48 hours).

Thankfully, that particular Gamestop is a rather large store, and lines usually aren't a problem there. The only thing that stinks about it possibly coming out during Pax is that it means less money for Pax.

The last I heard, the 3DS was going to be around $300... has anyone heard differently? Currently I'm looking at getting the special edition Mario XL for christmas, since I don't have any DS yet (but occasionally steal my wife's Lite for poke action) and $300 seems way too steep for a portable platform.

Drinking on the T is an institution. Just hide it in a bag bum-style or dump it in a DD/711 cup, and don't be stupid. It's mostly the 2nd part that gets people busted.

Seems pretty steep. I thought it was $200 if you take the announced yen price and convert to us dollars. I still think $200-220.

The announced yen price translates into approximately 308 dollars at today's exchange rate. That said, products are notoriously more expensive in Japan and while the Wii came out at 25k Yen on release, it only cost 249.99 in the US.

Basically, expect it to be $250. Don't be surprised if it's more. Be pleasantly surprised if it's less.

Ya I guess I can convince myself that $250 for a handheld game is worth it. :(

I bought a DS Lite for $120 new. DSi is pretty similar in hardware and they started at $169 new? I just couldn't bring myself to upgrade.

For $250 the 3DS will have to be pretty damn impressive. I am hoping I can get some hands on time with one at a Gamestop or Best Buy before it comes out.

Yeah, I dunno mate.... hard to convince myself to spend as much or more than the wii cost at launch. The autostereoscopic 3D will have to be, as you said, pretty damn impressive. I have heard good things, but I need to see it with mine own eyes.

I will buy a 3DS on release date if there is one 3DS exclusive I really want coming out the same day. If not, no dice. I am absolutely ridiculous, I own a DS Lite and a DSi, and I bought the DSi the week before the 3DS was announced. I barely play either. That will change soon with a change (for the better!) in my job scheduling.

The closest Gamestop to the convention center is on Winter Street, right by Park Street station. There is also an FYE nearby too, and if they're still in business by then they might be less bombed for preorder.

Well, in fairness, the 3D tech is going to take mucho power to run. An article I read did say that normal DS games will run to a longer battery life for the 3DS.

There's only so much juice they can stick into a battery, I guess.

I think it's a system I'll really need to get hands on with before cementing whether or not to buy one close to launch.
