Not counting moving to/from Atlanta during college (had a lot less stuff, and certainly had the process down by the time I graduated) I have moved 3 times. This does include one cross-country (Alabama -> California) trip, though.
Since we only moved once during my childhood my capacity for moves is not that great. I think if I ever do a big move (i.e., cross-country) again, it will be permanent.
Funnily enough my cross-continent move was actually the easiest! Mainly because I was forced to leave it to the professionals. I packed my life into 12 boxes (took no furniture) and they did door-to-door delivery for $500. It was sweet.
Most of the times I moved I had to do it myself.
Parents' home > Dorm
Dorm > Shared house for second year
Shared house > Boyfriend's house
Boyfriend's house > Another awful shared house
Shared house > Boyfriend's house
Boyfriend's house > House with friend for a year
House with friend > House friend bought
House friend bought > Another friend's house (she was on vacation, needed someone to house-sit her cat, so I moved everything so I wouldn't have to pay rent elsewhere)
Another friend's house > Parents' house (while I prepared for move to California)
Parents' house > California
Okay, so this will actually be the 12th time... I guess I was counting the summers I'd spend at my parents the first couple of years :P
I am currently occupying the basement of my future inlaws place with my fiance. We had a one bedroom apartment that was too small, so we moved into a two bedroom in the same building. Turned out the guy living there was disgusting and failed to mention the minor infestation of bedbugs he had. Whoops.
So, 48 hours in, we wake up and have some dead in the bed. Manager stops by and he lifts the bed with me, several large ones scatter for cover. We freaked and a couple days later got our money back, took all the necessary steps to recover whatever shit we kept, then ran for the hills.
Fuck bedbugs. Seriously disgusting shit. And now we are waiting until after we are married to move into a house with two friends, because both of us hate the idea of moving into an apartment or condo again.
Looking at apartments the next few days, finally getting out of my parents' house. First one I'm looking at seems good on paper, biggest complaints I've seen are parking related (I won't have a car, so whatevs), and the price isn't insane for the area.
Seriously, corom's room + bathroom (who we are replacing) is about the same size as our old apartment is in total. Plus now we have this amazing living space!
It's looking wrecked right now.
All last week Mori & DE?AD were moving boxes.
On Saturday, corom moved out and although he's fairly clean it still took me 6 hours to really properly clean his room (vacuumed for about an hour, steam-cleaned carpets, scrubbed walls etc.) it is SUCH a lovely room. We have a great big window! And his greasy fingerprints came off the walls pretty easily
Yesterday, I had back pain and took one of corom's prescribed back-pain drugs and was pretty much out for the rest of the day, so not a whole lot was done.
I'm hoping to finish living room today, and do laundry after class tonight. Tomorrow I might get our room done. Next weekend we're making a trip to IKEA and I might finish steam-cleaning carpets. Whew! It's a huge effort.
Yeah, we won't even get around to cleaning our old apartment until Saturday (which is when our lease is up!)
I just finished steam-cleaning the living room carpet and sofa/desk chairs, now to sit and do accounting homework before our philosophy class starts, and then back to work tomorrow - what a lovely 2 days off I've had! :P
Ffff, the apartment I was going to be looking at today, the one that was in the perfect area, just sold. My options are to live in an area that isn't terrible, but also isn't dc at all; or hold off moving for two more weeks. Argh!!!

yeah you saw it
We were going to move into DE?AD and Dubh's apartment complex, get a 1 bed
as it turns out we're moving into DE?AD and Dubh's apartment, as they needed a room filled in a hurry and eh, we could do with saving some money!
I'm the only one with a regular job/schedule, so I'm a little afraid it's going to be me and then the three guys staying up playing games all night :P

Thank you Squall & Skettios!
oh hey, I just saw this
hi5
^5!
I moved everything today but my bed and computer, currently sitting on the floor hunched over my keyboard
my 24'' monitor is sitting on an empty amazon box that came in the mail today containing my new router
this is the moving cliche, right?
that's what I want to do when I finally move out of my parents house
not sure If I'd actually be able to afford it, though
only two of the other three apt style condos are occupied in my building
the vacant one is below me so i dont have to feel bad stomping around
Pics when you get a bit more settled please
feels great let me tell you

bedbugs are gross and bleh!
currently recovering from encountering them (previous apartment). all my stuffed animals are in quarantine still
man
we still have so much goddamn shit
just about anyone's home would make a potentially inviting infestation site, but many people are fortunate enough to never have an infestation start
but the eggs could have made it into the apartment through a range of vectors
now, if there were other obvious reasons he was disgusting, like the apartment being filthy with bags of trash stacked in a corner or such, then yeah
but just having bedbugs in the apartment doesn't make him filthy
and it's also a silly reason to avoid moving into an apartment in the future
do you really think apartments are magically more prone to bedbugs than houses are?
What I don't like is that they like ME.
I still have scars from some of the bites I got
Perhaps they like Coma as well. If so, I don't blame him for not wanting to live there.
just clarifying that it doesn't necessarily make the previous tenant gross and that it's a silly reason to refuse to ever live in apartments again
Save money, DE?AD and Dubh needed roommates, and it's still much bigger than our old place.
It's looking wrecked right now.
