Ok so, I'm selling my old car. I already have a buyer and everything, I just need to know what I have to do. I have the title here, but what parts of that need to be filled out? is there any other paperwork him or I need to do to transfer it over to him? I was going to have him sign a contract stating that hes getting it in AS IS condition and all that, but is there anything else I need to know?
where you have to sign varies from state to state.
generally there is a section for signature and date for transfer of ownership. perhaps on the back. It should also have a space for the odometer reading when sold which is required by federal law. you may have to contact the department of motor vehicles to notify them of the transfer. you also probably have to pay tax on the money you get and the buyer might be required to pay sales tax on what he spent (to the DMV at the time of registration usually).
the DMV site for your state will have all of the specific information.

Texas for instance asks that you do a title transfer and also each county would like a bill of sale just to be safe.
I sold my old car back in June and had my mechanic be the middle man just to make sure all the paperwork was in order; I just had to sign over the title, the bill of sale, and the title transfer that I mailed later. And the person you're selling to should try and go register the car in his or her name that same day or the next.
